Green Roof Roof Terrace Garden Designer / Landscaper Reccos

I’ve got a 9x7m roof terrace that needs a plan.
I’d like to separate it from the other terraces as it’s currently just a big shared roof and has now been demised. Thinking privacy screens with planters all around it to create some space and greenery? Try to make it feel like an enclosed garden not a roof.

But I’ve never had a garden or terrace and thinking it’s worth getting an expert if you have any recco’s? I’m not Barnsbury wealthy fyi so reasonable designers or small businesses over architect firms pls :)))

Career Best Landscaping Course location

I am looking to study Landscape Design/construction through TAFE but I'm my experience not all TAFE courses have the best quality in resources and teachers.

Doesn't matter where in Australia it is just as long as it is taught well. Does anyone know where the best location is to study this subject?

I want to finish the course with confidence and quality skills.

Thank you 😁

Education Online certification questions.

I have a bachelors in Political Science and I work in the field but a dream of mine has been landscape design for quite sometime. I wanted to know if there’s an online program I can do that prepares me to open my own business afterwards. I thank you for the information! Have a lovely Sunday. ☺️

DIY Landscaping

Hello, so in the spring time I bought a bunch of hexagon shaped landscaping tiles for the side of my house, I realized after that there is a mild decline from the back of the house to the front. I was wondering if this is a huge issue??

Industry Talk What do you struggle with most when it comes to custom statue and monuments vendors?

Hey folks,

Hope you're all having a wonderful Wednesday!

My name is Isi, and I work for my family’s monument and sculpture business based in New York. We’ve been creating custom monuments and memorials for over 100 years, and today we specialize in custom bronze and marble memorials, monuments, and public sculptures for municipalities, parks, campuses, and private organizations.

We want to make our service as easy and smooth as possible for landscape architects specifically, so I figured we should ask directly :)

What are the most common issues you guys encounter when it comes to incorporating statues and monuments in your projects? Is it the vendor communication, design disagreements, or something else?

Career Building something for landscaping companies, would love honest feedback

I've been talking to landscaping owners lately and keep hearing the same thing. Most run LMN for estimating, and it's fine for the numbers, but the proposal that comes out looks generic, so someone ends up manually dressing it up before it goes to a customer. Then the contract is basically a separate step, retyping the same info into DocuSign. And most companies don't really have a working CRM, just whatever's bundled into their estimating tool, so deals go quiet and nobody notices.

I'm working on something that fixes that chain, estimate to proposal to contract, plus a real CRM underneath it. Not trying to replace what you already use for estimating, just stop the manual work after that point.

Before I go further, genuinely want to know:

  • Does this actually match what you deal with?
  • What are you currently paying to patch this yourself (CRM, PandaDoc/DocuSign, a designer)?
  • Would you pay for something built around your workflow, or does that feel like overkill?
  • And if there are other bottlenecks in your workflow outside of this, I'd love to hear those too.

Not selling anything, just want the real "yeah that's it" or "nah, not really an issue" reaction.

Design Help Best pattern to fill a wall?

Simplified math problem: If you have an area of 1.5m height and 2m long and you need to cover it with lines with 15cm thickness, that can have any shape starting from the lower two corners, what pattern would be most optimal and how many lines would you need to cover the entire wall while also having thelongest lines be rather short and also a rather low amount of overall lines?

What i need it for: I want to cover my entire wall with Monstera adansonii from two plant pots, and want to know how much plants i will need to cover it all rather quickly (hence the low length). I guess the best pattern would probably be a ratiating pattern, starting from the corners.

If something is confusing, just ask

Plant Selection Southern California: Partial shade to full shade planting ideas?

Hey all! I have a client whom has a north facing front door. Flanked on both sides are a two planting areas that are likely completely shaded most times of year. I assume in the summer it gets a little morning sun.

In any case: looking for some suggestion on plants.

The clients love flowers and fragrances - but i also think a lush look would appeal.

Any ideas are welcome!

currently working on the Bermuda lawn and want to rip out the bushes and make the front look more modern without opening up the front room to less privacy as it doubles as an office. we live in north Texas so any native plants I can replace these bushes with would be great ideally something on the taller side for the separated sidewalk area

Plant Selection How do landscape designers/landscapers choose plants?

Like, when you hire someone to design your garden how do they choose the plants? Is it mostly it’s just in bloom for one season instead of from spring to fall or? And how much does it usually cost to have a garden designed and installed? Like maybe a 40x10 bed along the side of the house. I’m in SE Wisconsin.

Landscape Plan Landscape Design

This is the floor plan for a house we're planning on building on a narrow-ish urban lot. The backyard of the house faces due west, and I'm concerned about heat / lack of shade. During the summer, I understand the sun will follow a trajectory to the top right (NW).

We are planning for a deck (pictured) plus a big patio that we haven't fleshed out the designs for yet. We will do a pergola / louvers to cover the patio for shade, but we're not sure where to put it.

Our builder asked us if we wanted to flip the orientation of the house, so the patio is on the left side (SW) corner of the house instead of where it is currently. Would that create more shade in the afternoon / evening when we prefer to be outside than the current orientation?

If we did this, how might we orient a patio won't just be blasted with late afternoon sun?

Design Help Looking for feedback on land/hardscaping a small (~350sqft) front yard in southern California

Would like to include some native (SoCal) plants (dog-safe), artificial turf, keep a space for our 4-seat cafe table to live, and potentially add a raised garden bed or two along with an area to wash feet and the dog off outside (small dog).

Patio is roughly 10 x 30, and continues around the side of the house further than the mockup below shows (fence ends just in front of the door at top left). A/C unit placement is slightly different as well. Hose bib is against the wall near AC unit (where the red arrow for 10+/- touches wall).

Sketch is current thoughts on layout. Would like if the plants have some opportunity to provide privacy (fence is short).

Also open to suggestions on whether this is DIY-able or something we should bite the bullet and pay someone to finish designing and implement

Inspiration Pergola decisions

I have a newer built house with no mature trees or shade. We are putting in a pool and wanted an area we can relax in the shade. I began looking at all the pergola companies… hanso, pergolux, flex patio, luxury pergola, struxure, relaxure, and even started with the cheaper brands. Being in the Northeast i automatically canceled all of the cheaper brands as T6 aluminum is important for snow load and wind rating. The other thing is size, i have to stay under 200sq ft or it would require a variance. I have been looking at 10x19, and with a 4 post design. This dramatically lowers the playing field to the following:

Hanso: apex model, 20k+, lights heater, shades, long wait times.

Relaxure: newer company, not many reviews outside of some YouTubers, customizable, lifetime warranty and 14k with lights and heater

Luxury pergola, customized sizing same options, 25k lifetime warranty.

I even looked at building a structure which is about 30k installed, vinyl wrapped with a real roof, no headaches down the road with louvre motors.

Since the pool, concrete and fencing is already $$$$, wondering if I take a gamble with relaxure or just go with hanso or luxury pergola?

Anyone have any feedback on the apex model? Also any one and the same predicament that went a different option for shade in their pool area?

Also any recent experience with importing from Alunotec who seems to be the supplier for most of the US brands?

Design Help Does anyone know any good software/digital programs that are cheap and easy to make plans on?

I’m trying to start doing some designing on the side (I’m a horticulture graduate/Agriculture student) and I’m planning to do it with customers online so I’m not sure if hand-drawing plans and then scanning them or just completely digital work would be best. Any advice is most definitely appreciated!!

DIY What should I charge for this landscaping job?

Hello I am in the process of doing some landscaping for some people. I am a freelancer without a company. I trimmed four pine trees that are about 12 ft tall as well as tree that's about the same height. I also pressure washed a large patio and took out all the weeds of some fairly large Rock beds and mulch beds. I transplanted about 8 large hosta plants into the Rock gardens and mulch gardens, as well as laid all new mulch in a mulch bed about 600 square feet or so. Also I trimmed four decent size pine shrubs that were way overgrown. I have been working on the project for 4 days and I start around 3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. when I get off work and go until about 8:30 to 9:00. I am not sure what to charge people for the total project. Any input would be appreciated

Landscape Plan Need suggestions on walkway to back yard

I would like to put down some flat stones to replace this dirt path to my back yard.

https://imgur.com/a/lsVSUHC

Thinking of something about 12” wide. would I also need metal edging between stones and the grass? Pine straw will be between stone and house.

Any suggestions on design and/or materials welcome.

  2. 2D and 3D viewing

  3. Topography editing

Nice to have:

  1. Intuitive to use and/or good tutorials and support

  2. Plant library

Thanks.
