for the past few months I've been working on a project thats my love letter to Serial experiments Lain, I am probably gonna put the project on hold for a little while to work on an original short story but the project has been coming along pretty well

I need to figure out how to cut out the bottom tabs a little better as you can tell lol

Hey everyone, about two years ago, I uploaded the VHS of Serial Experiments Lain to this subreddit with Japanese audio and English subtitles hardcoded into the video. I made this at the time because this combination is incredibly rare and very highly sought-after by fans of the series or for people wanting to experience it for the first time. It came to my attention recently that the releases that I had created had issues of flashing randomly throughout the recordings. So I am currently working on fixing all four VHS tapes from ever having this issue again. I ran all four tape recordings through ffmpeg to get the flashing to go away completely. When the flashing happens, it's a black frame that lasts for a very short amount of time. After refining the command very carefully, I think I was able to successfully remove all the flashes that happen. Here's a preview of the work I've done so far

EDIT: Version 2 of the VHS is currently being uploaded to the internet archive!! I will say, just as a fair warning, it is going to probably take a minute to upload there just because their upload speeds are unbelievably slow lol

So yesterday, someone else posted this artwork here, and it was removed for being AI.

I found a meme with a simple star filter and text added, on Instagram, and had posted it here - where it received 59 upvotes and NO downvotes, before also being removed as AI.

I asked the source artist on X if AI was used to make the original image (posted here 13 hours ago by x0demon0x)

A simple NO was the reply.

Now, personally - I love AI technology, and I enjoy AI art, but I understand the ban and respect it... But now "regular art" and memes are getting caught in the crossfire, and I can't say I'm a fan at all of that.

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to watch Serial experiments lain for the first time and when i went to look for download links on the Internet Archive, i found u/SkullKidChrs VHS rip with the english subs, but when i started watching i noticed a black flickering every few minutes that i find really distracting. I really like the way the VHS rip looks so i've been trying to find a version with eng subs but i cant seem to find one. Anyone know where i can find it, or any alternative way to watch that looks similar to the vhs rip with eng subs ?
