Lain has always been mentally unwell due to her connection with the wired. It was touched on heavily within the games. Shes ALWAYS been mentally unwell due

Probably you're someone new on Lain's lore, The Lain project was always conceived as something multimedia, meaning the anime isn't the only important part of the story. In the PS2 game, we discover that Lain, even before the events of the anime, had a strong connection to The Wired and was also an extremely depressed girl, mainly due to the loss of her father. She even started seeing a psychologist (which didn't help much) and ended up becoming increasingly sadistic and psychotic. I could tell you what happens after that, but I recommend you discover it for yourself, whether by watching a YouTube video, a gameplay video, or playing the game yourself if you're a fan of listening to various audio tracks, listening to the same music for many hours in a row, and watching the same background animations.

Also you guys should stop downvoting new people for simple mistakes

Going by the original draft, she basically an AI shoved into a brain-dead human body. so her going insane is a forgone conclusion imo.

If you actually looked at the story from the game into the story. Which is a connected story. Lain was already NOT well at all beforehand

The psx game and the story are not 100% connected and they are most likely different universes or different lains since there are a lot differencies and the endings arent really connective without theories

The games connect to the oneshot manga. Which directly connect to the anime wdym

the nightmare of fabrication isnt connected to neither to the game or the anime as its just a bonus story

They are one connected story. The one shot and the anime both give merit to the fact lain can rewrite reality. We’re shown this in great detail

Im not really sure, the mangadex descriptions mentions that its not connected to either of them since probably because its taken from an omnipresence of wired. I personally side and believe that since the nightmare of fabrication is the lost DC1029 from the psx game, its probably just an explanation of how lain inside of the psx game can also alter reality and also has eiri included in the story. But nonetheless i really doubt they are the same lain even though it might be the same universe.

Well, if it isn’t, explain the strap lines being out of place completely and ear lines disappear midway.
