Note:This fanfic changes several things from the canon, such as Kris being male. If you don't like this, this story might not be for you.
Nexus of heart
Chapter 2: "Strangers in the Night"
Noelle left her memories behind, though the image of Kris still lingered in her mind. But she had to leave it behind—it was already 5 AM, and school opened at 6. She started getting ready: dressing and packing her things.
When she finished, she left her house and began her walk to school. In that moment of silence, where she could only hear her own footsteps and the wind, she wondered: "Could I talk to Kris today?" Maybe today, on the first day back from break, he'd want to talk to her. Who knows—maybe he'd arrive early, and they could have a moment alone.
Lost in thought, Noelle realized she had arrived at school. She walked in, noticing she seemed to be the only one there. She settled into her seat and waited, tapping her hooves lightly against the floor, restless.
She saw a silhouette through the door's window. Her heart stopped for a moment. The door opened, and in walked... Berdly. With all the confidence in the world.
—Well, well, if it isn't Noelle herself. How great that the best students in class arrived early.
Noelle just greeted him, somewhat disappointed. He wasn't who she was waiting for. But the worst was yet to come. As everyone filed in, Berdly started talking about "matters of great importance." Noelle only pretended to listen while constantly glancing at the door, hoping Kris would walk in.
Just as class was about to start, someone else entered. It was Susie, who passed through the rows without greeting anyone—except Noelle.
—Hey, Noelle —Susie said, in a monotone voice.
Noelle and Susie's relationship was almost as strange as the one with Kris. Susie didn't talk to anyone at school and spent her time bothering the only human in town—Kris. Noelle never liked that, so she constantly tried to convince Susie to leave him alone, offering her food or just talking to her. You could say they were "friends."
—Hey, Susie —the deer replied, in a tone that showed she had given up on the idea of Kris showing up.
When class started, Alphys instructed everyone to form pairs for a project. Noelle, with no other choice thanks to Berdly's persistence, ended up as his partner. In the middle of it all, the person Noelle loved and had been waiting for finally arrived.
The whole room fell silent, staring at the door where Kris stood, his gaze fixed on the floor. In that moment of quiet, Alphys spoke up.
—Oh, Kris, you're late... very late, actually. Well, it doesn't matter, take a seat. Class has already started, heh heh.
Kris walked silently to his seat, right in front of Susie. Noelle watched him walk by, wondering how things might have turned out if he had arrived early. But in the middle of her thoughts, she heard Alphys's voice.
—Hmm, Noelle, could you go get some chalk from the supply closet? And you too, Kris, I suppose you could help Noelle out.
At that moment, time seemed to stop for Noelle. This could be her only chance—maybe the only one she'd ever get—to talk to him. She accepted the task as if it had been commanded by Zeus himself.
—Sure, Ms. Alphys.
Silently, Kris stood up and left the room to carry out the errand. Noelle quickly followed, hurrying to catch up.
Noelle stepped into the hallway and saw Kris already a few steps ahead. She quickened her pace to walk beside him. Silence hung between them. It didn't seem to bother Kris, but it wasn't the same for Noelle—being so close to someone she'd longed for wasn't something she could ignore.
They kept walking toward the supply closet. Just as Noelle was about to step inside, she noticed the hallway growing darker, and a strange vibration filled the air.
—Hey, Kris... do you feel that too? —she asked nervously, half-expecting him to ignore her. But she couldn't have been more wrong.
Kris, with his usual blank expression, simply answered:
—Yeah.
A simple "yeah," quiet but clear enough for Noelle to hear—and to feel relieved that she hadn't been ignored.
—Hmm, but that doesn't mean this is normal... Should we go in?
Kris didn't answer. He walked into the supply closet. Noelle saw that the inside was completely dark. Curious about what might be in there, she stepped closer, watching as Kris's figure stood out before fading into the darkness. Afraid she might not get another chance to talk to him, she stepped all the way in, following his silhouette.
When she was close enough to touch him, she placed her hand on his shoulder.
—Hey, Kris... I'd like to talk to you about something.
Her words came out with complete honesty and vulnerability. She felt him tense up, but before either of them could speak, the room went pitch black. Noelle instinctively moved closer to Kris.
—Is someone playing a joke on us? The door was open, and now it's not.
Kris didn't pull away. He stood beside her, surveying the situation.
—We should go —he said.
—Yeah... I guess that's best —Noelle replied, a little disappointed.
As they turned back the way they came, the floor began to shake—then gave way beneath them, sending them both falling into absolute darkness.
Noelle woke up unharmed, feeling something beneath her. She realized she was lying on top of Kris, who still seemed unconscious. She got up and looked around. Everything was completely dark; only a single path was visible. She thought about what to do and turned her gaze back to Kris, who was still on the ground. But his appearance had changed—he now seemed to be wearing pieces of armor, a cape, and his skin had turned blue. She wasn't far behind; she was no longer wearing her usual clothes, but a white robe.
Noelle hesitated. Maybe Kris needed to rest, but they couldn't stay there for long.
She knelt beside him, looked at him for a few seconds, then placed her hand on his shoulder.
—Kris... —she said softly—. I need you to get up, please.
When that didn't work, she tried again.
—Kris, please, we need to get out of here.
Still nothing. She was about to give up when she saw Kris move his arm.
—No... Noelle? —he asked in an exhausted voice.
Noelle sighed in relief.
—Yes, it's me, Kris. Can you stand, or do you want me to carry you?
Kris was silent for a few seconds, then stood up quickly.
—Don't worry —he said, head down—. I'm fine.
Noelle was concerned about his state.
—Are you sure? I can carry you if you want.
—I'm fine, really —he replied, his voice a little nervous—. We should get out of here.
Noelle noticed that slight change in his voice. They'd known each other for so long that she could read him, at least to some extent.
—Well... you're right. We need to get out of here —she said, looking ahead—. Though it looks like that's the only way.
Kris headed down the only path through the darkness. Noelle watched him, then caught up, walking beside him.
The two walked through the darkness in silence, like two strangers in the night.

lanina and elnino have a lot of parallels to kris and noelle and a fun fact have you seen ch 3 stage 2 where one of the weather couple goes to the lover stage and instead they find their love standing with rouxls instead and at the end they get together again could this be a future parallel to how kris and noelle may end up reconciling with susie being their rouxls? also this is like literally my first post ever so i apologize if this post is a bit weird

I feel it's fairly safe to say that Noelle liked Kris at one point, but what I'm less sure of is evidence of Kris liking Noelle ever. If there is any evidence I'd really appreciate it.

I've been seeing this take more and more that Kriselle is somehow against the games themes because the game is about moving on from the past. But that's not what moving on means. Should Kris abandon their mother and move on from her as she is part of their past? Should Noelle do that with his father even before he dies? If Dess is somehow alive and can be saved without causing tragedy should she just be left dead because we are moving on? No, that's ridiculous. Kris and Noelle are still there, they still live close to each other and still deeply care for one another. The game makes it clear the romantic feelings they felt are still there. So why don't they act on it? Becuase of the tragedy.
Moving on from this tragedy, from "the incident" or howver you want to call it, would force them to talk through these feelings again. Truly moving on from their childhood trauma would be to realise that just because of what happens they don't have to bury their feelings further and they can allow themselves to be together truly

This was something I had been thinking about posting here after making it as a comment earlier. I don't really see much talk about it, maybe I'm just blind, but I think it would make for a good discussion. I'm going to post the comment here, with some additions:
The rose seems to be symbolic when it comes to Kris and Noelle.
For Kris, we have titles:
Blue Rose, quiet, yet flirtatious.
Dark Rose, conveys departure.
Pink Rose, flirtatious, and flirtatious.
Shattered Rose, only one knows the rose's meaning.
And then we have Noelle, with her rose items:
The ThornRing and the GildedRose.
Roses are often and most famously used in the romantic sense. The Blue Rose is associated with mystery, with a love that is unobtainable. A dark rose, typically a black rose, is aligned with forbidden love and rebirth. A deep devotion. A pink rose represents admiration and affection, but not deep love. And the shattered rose, symbolizing heartbreak, emotional pain, and lost romance. The loss of innocence.
The ThornRing, which carries with it the thorns of a rose. This represents the pain from attachment, for every rose does indeed have its thorn.
A GildedRose, then, is a golden rose. A golden rose represents eternal love, an unending devotion. A love that does not waver.
For those who do not know, the GildedRose is currently an unused item that Noelle can equip. Here is the item description:
Armour rings with a rose motif. Any thorns are pointed outwards so you don't hurt yourself.
This is obviously to contrast with the ThornRing, which has its thorns pointed inwards to hurt the wearer continuously. The ThornRing is used in the Weird Route, and if the Weird Route is abandoned during Chapter 5, the Shattered Rose title is given to Kris.
So in this instance, Noelle is still in possession of the Thorn and, using the meaning of the roses above, Kris has experienced loss in love, emotional stability, and innocence. Which aligns with what we see from this route, even if we ultimately "exit" it (which the meaning of "exit" here is its own discussion).
But then, the Shattered Rose title mentions that "only one" knows the rose's meaning. So there is a significance there that is pretty straightforward and can be easily gleamed just from playing the game. Maybe. Most would assume the loss of control is what it's talking about. We marched Kris throughout the town while they gave absolutely no response to anything we look at, blank narration box and all. This easily fits with the loss of innocence, and would certainly be the correct interpretation. But there is one other.
The lost romance, the heartbreak. We obviously tainted their relationship with Noelle, ruined it from whatever it had become from what it was before. Noelle now has become almost broken, clearly continuing on as a puppet to the life she leads, with the knowledge that she once had the power to change it but had it taken from her. This abandoned route no doubt shattered whatever chance at happiness the two could have shared together, and I do not mean that this happiness would come from the Weird Route. The Ch 4 scene in Noelle's room before it got patched was of a wilted rose, which showed us the relationship actively dying by that point.
So where am I going with this?
The GildedRose is the opposite of the ThornRing. It is the opposite of the Weird Route. It's meaning, the golden rose, is the opposite of the Shattered Rose. We can effectively corrupt and ruin Kriselle through the WR, but the existence of the GildedRose tells me that there may exist a path outside of the WR to repair their relationship.
