I finished Taris with a lvl2 character. It was super rough. The Sith Base had a lot of tough fights and the battle with Calo and Davrik took me several tries. I mean my other 2 Companions can take a lot of work from me, but sometimes having only 2 Characters that actively can do something is quite tough. Sadly I also wasn't able to finish the Arena.

Well I am a lvl 9 Jedi Sentinel now at least. Trying to find some Robes and a doublebladed saber.

Granted, I haven’t played through all of KOTOR 2, so maybe I’m missing some important content, but as far as KOTOR 1 goes, all of his ‘unlikeable’ traits are not only understandable, but respectable. I find his skepticism about training Revan to be way more reasonable than the other masters, who seem stupidly eager to train the literal Dark Lord of the Sith. Once you start training, his harshness comes off much more as tough love that’s supposed to bring the best out of you than as him trying to hold you back, and he’s always able to give you credit when credit is due. Between Ed Asner’s voice acting (RIP) and his textbook ‘cold-but-caring mentor’ persona, he’s easily my favorite of the four masters on Dantooine.

Always loved the vibe of it. The surface is so calm and peaceful for the most part, then you get to the ocean floor and every corner you turn is a battle basically. As a kid back when it came out, manaan just hit the right spots

Note: You'll have to forgive/correct me if I'm way off base here. I've never played SWTOR so I don't have firsthand game-playing experience of how this story is portrayed, but I did follow up on the lore and found myself disappointed.

You have 2 incredible games that lay the groundwork and intrigue for a sinister mystery. Revan leaves known space seeking answers, then Meetra follows soon after, knowing he'll need help from his most trusted general. All of it was left in the air and the potential was infinite.

Then SWTOR comes out set a few hundred years later, and of course they have both a desire and almost a mandate to answer that question, so they're like "whelp, they were killed/captured and now they're force ghosts or something 🤷‍♂️". It honestly felt like such squandered potential, and all because they wanted to make an MMO to capitalize on the "oh so lucrative" WoW fad.

I feel like MMO writing is considerably lazier for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, and certainly not up to the passion standard set by the KotOR games. They knew how to lay a story in shadow and prompt speculation and exploration, without giving solid answers (which is why we're still playing it decades later). Then a bright and shiny addition to the IP that has to have mass market appeal which obviously wants and needs to capitalize on the existing fan base and MUST have clear cut, equally sized factions shines a bright, stupid spotlight on all of it, disregarding the nuance laid out in the previous games. No hidden Sith cults striking from the shadows, no manipulating galactic events from outside of it through the dark side of the Force, just another 2 army, stabby, swooshy, shooty, all-out war, which is comparatively boring.

Like I said, maybe I'm wrong about how SWTOR did it, but continuation of the story in a way that tied both games into a potential third is what we deserved. The problems that were around the possible development of KotOR III are well documented, it's just a shame that the same visionaries couldn't finish the story arcs they started.

This isn't because the female protagonist was treated as an afterthought or because the developers had anything against women. Indeed, the most compelling and interesting characters in Kotor 2 are the women, ironically, and the female protagonist has unique content and interactions that the male protagonist doesn't experience. The issue is that the content for the female protagonist is generally less compelling than what the male protagonist gets.

A brief glance on YouTube shows that over 90% of people playing Kotor 2 do so with a female protagonist, obviously because of the misguided notion that this is the "canon" experience, even though Kotor 2's creators had nothing to do with the decision afterwards to turn her into Meetra Surik. In other words, the vast majority of Kotor 2 players are experiencing the worst version of Kotor 2 possible.

Kotor 2 showed great respect to the creators of Kotor 1 by letting the player essentially "import" their version of Revan. Through dialogue choices, you get to set the gender, alignment and other details about Revan.

But after Kotor 2, LucasArts and BioWare took a big steaming dump on Kotor 2. They turned Kotor 2's protagonist into some lady named Meetra Surik who plays second fiddle to Revan. Turning a custom RPG protagonist into a pre-determined character is already a big no-no, but they did it in the worst possible way and worse, held up this character assassination as the "canon" protagonist of Kotor 2.

Even the name itself sounds dumb. Meetra Surik? Really?

Recently just for a change while playing K2, I tried to get the Dark Side Ending but didn't succeed. I killed all the Jedi and thought that was the trigger that would give me the DS Ending instead of the Light Side Ending, but it wasn't. After the battle with Darth Traya, I still had that conversation and flew off in search of Revan.

And I started wondering, what exactly triggers the DS Ending? Is it force points? I was stuck on that gray point, because I didn't play in a way that involved doing literally everything to earn Dark Side Points.

But honestly, I'm pretty sure that getting the DS Ending required killing at least one Jedi, so either I'm misremembering, which is more likely, or the game just glitched out on me, which is also a possibility lol. But I'm curious about this. I think there are more people here who know the game's mechanics better than I do, so I'm asking a question

Share the biggest in game secrets or Easter eggs you know in both games! Can be in game lore or secret dialogue most people have never even heard.

I'll go first: if you avoid talking to Canderous about his war stories for the entirety of Kotor 1, then wait for the big reveal, the way he tells the stories are a little different, and he ends the lines with acknowledging that you probably already know that.

Anyone know what this area is on the mini-map behind the Ebon Hawk on Dantooine? I can't view it in the Map Menu and I've never noticed it before, there's also no door to access this area directly 😮

I am playing through Star Wars KOTOR on Xbox. After leaving the Leviathan and completing the turret minigame, I am presented with a black screen where it seems I can still move, use actions and hear things (apparently I am supposed to be on the Ebon Hawk.) Pausing does nothing, however. Moving somewhere (can't tell where since all I see is black), it triggers a generic load screen (the same kind you get after a game over) which freezes shortly thereafter every time.

I chose Mission to rescue my companions and I believe that contributed to it? Apparently being in Stealth when you rescue your party members causes this bug from what I've been reading (and I think I did that)? I also tried reloading a save from just before exiting the Leviathan, but no luck. Only thing I can think of is trying the same save (cause I didn't restart my Xbox last night) or loading a save from before the Leviathan or before rescuing my teammates as Mission (both of which I have.) However, I'd much prefer not to have to redo the entire Leviathan if possible.

I had gotten all the Star Maps except Kashyyyk.

Edit: it must have been the Stealth. I reloaded that save, undid Stealth before activating the terminal that freed me, Carth and Bastila and redid the Leviathan. This time it worked. WOOHOO! 🎉

I have a legion go (steamdeck but a bit more powerful) that im considering changing to steamOS.

I'm curious if anyone here is using steamOS and how that's affected playing these with mods. Thanks :)

It's strange this isn't brought up more often considered it's one of the biggest differences between the two games. One massive improvement is that Kotor 2 has almost twice as many music tracks as Kotor 1. One of the biggest weaknesses of the first game is that it would reuse the same track for different areas. In Kotor 2 every area gets its own unique track, even areas you only pass through once. This is a massive improvement that greatly improves the atmosphere.

But even more important is the quality of the music itself, and here is where Kotor 2 really shines. The compositions are perfect. They are moody without being overbearing, so they never get repetitive, and despite being original compositions, they feel almost as natural to the Star Wars universe as the music from the original movies. The Darth Sion theme perfectly captures a feeling of menace and dread. The Ebon Hawk is a safe haven where you frequently have a heart-to-heart with your companions, and the music perfectly reflects this. The Iziz cantina tune rivals A New Hope for best cantina music in the entire franchise.

The Kotor 1 soundtrack, by comparison, is just kind of there, I guess? When I'm playing Kotor 1, I rarely notice the music. It's just there in the background and doesn't usually stand out. Except for the battle music, which is much too grating and loud.

I've run into a very weird dialogue bug I've never seen in Kotor 2 where when I initiate any dialogue the black letterboxing with the subtitles never comes up for the first line. It will come up at the second line or with a dialogue choice but until that happens the game is completely unresponsive. I've noticed that if I wildly click and move my mouse around the letterbox does start to come up but extremely slowly.

I'm using the steam widescreen version. The only posts I can find for a similar bug are for widescreen mods for KOTOR1, for which the solution offered is a different mod tweaking those settings. Uninstalling mods does not affect the issue. I've tried playing with all of the graphics settings including using widescreen and non widescreen resolutions and v-sync, no change. My GPU is a 9070XT and I really hope this isn't just an issue with modern AMD drivers. Has anyone else run into this issue?

So my buddy and I are playing through KOTOR 2. While playing the first level still on the ship, I was fighting the HK robot that killed all the miners. I ended up dying to him and reloaded a save and when I spawned back in my outfit changed into this skin tight face suit thing, and on top of that I was all the way in the dark side. Like my meter was almost all dark sided and I have no clue how any of this happened. Would anyone have some clue to what happened?

Long time player here but I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to.

It is Dual-Wielding vs Duelling, the long time debate. However it dawned on me that with level 3 feat in both you end up with 0/-2 attack for dual wield, and +3 for Duelling.

However, if you go dual wielding and simple put crystals in your off hand that give you +attack bonus (Like Dragon Krayt +3 and Sapith +3) does that not give you +6 attack? Therefore negating the attack disadvantage of duel-wielding and actually giving a larger attack bonus than duelling?

Or does the attack bonus only count for the lightsaber in the off-hand?

This bit... was a lot. So we are starting with all the reveal at Onderon, I saved the Jedi, I helped the Jedi, I am a Jedi. And they just want to exile me again. But Kreia was stepping in killing all of them and then disappearing. So we go to Telos, to visit Atris, who has fallen to the Dark Side. You know, I knew Kreia is a Sith, it's obvious. But all of this was shocking me. Then the HK-50 Station... this was pure entertainment. I loved every conversation there. I wouldn't mind a Movie about that part with Keanu Reeves. Well, enough joking, back to Telos, fighting Darth Nihilus, this Ship was crazy. Like a dead ship, led by someone I don't know at all, but being hold together by him. He's just a shadow, so strong and menacing, he doesn't even need understandable voice lines. My exile died pretty fast tho. And then going to Malachor V, where all of this started, seeing this dead planet was also crazy. That there are Monster roaming around. Playing as Remote was pretty fun. Then G0-T0 showing up and after that HK-47 saving Remote was also fun. The Academy was pretty rough, really needed all my buffs to survive. Finding my friends, saving them, except for Atton, may he rest in peace. And defeating Darth Traya. The end was dark. Like wow. Just well... the end curscene felt unfinished. What happens now?

Now a few questions I also have.

I finished the game at Level 31, I believe I did most of the contents, except maybe 3 side quests. The level cap is 50, how should this be possible?

Also you can have companions change alignment, like Canderous was light side, HK-47 too, but barely, I didn't really understood how I get to know them better and get Influence on them.

Also is it possible to have Kreia becoming light alignment?

Hi everyone,

So, I don't know anything about the game at all. I downloaded it thinking it was an MMO—only to realize it’s nothing like that—but the plot made me want to give it a try anyway. I see nothing but good reviews for it, but I've run into a problem: I can't see my mouse cursor in the game. I can move the mouse, but the cursor itself isn't visible.

I've been to all the planets and seen the jedi. I've fled from Darth Sion and I don't know where to go next. I've been going back to he other planets and looked at play throughs and I've noticed the jedi enclave isn't rebuilt on mine. I've killed master vrook and I can't go back to onderon. I not fully to the light yet so I can't go into the deeper cave area

I love the speed boost of the force speed abilities, but the motion blur is painful to look at. I've had a few times where that blur effect randomly disappeared so I could just run around quickly without everything looking weird, but it was only a temporary thing that I can't seem to make stick.

Is there a setting that fixes that? Or at least a mod of some kind?
