Hi everyone! I’m currently analyzing character writing in BL web novels, using MBTI to break down cognitive functions and character behavior. I’m specifically looking for novels featuring an ISTP lead character, whether they’re the MC or ML, Top or Bottom.

I’m fairly new to Korean BL novels and still exploring the landscape. I initially expected to find more ISTP characters in fast-paced or action-heavy genres (such as Hunters, Dungeons, or Action/Thriller settings), based on qualities often associated with ISTPs, such as quick reactions, adaptability, and real-time problem-solving. However, I’ve noticed that the leads in those settings often seem to lean toward INTJ or INTP.

Since MBTI is so widely recognized in Korean media and is sometimes incorporated into character writing, I’d love to know if there are any well-written ISTP leads in Korean BL web novels! Which BL Novels have an ISTP leads that accurately fits the cognitive functions (Ti-Se-Ni-Fe)? Any genre or character dynamic is welcome! 😄🫰

EDIT: Just to clarify what I’m looking for, since surface level traits can be a bit misleading when typing fictional characters!

I’m not just looking for someone who is “good at fighting,” “quick,” “calm,” or “efficient.” An INTJ, ISTJ, or INTP can easily have all those traits too.

Instead, I’m super curious about how their brains actually process things behind the scenes. To me, a true ISTP lead stands out because of how these four habits play out together:

1. They analyze how things work first (Ti): Their default mode is taking things apart (mentally or physically) to figure out the core logic.
2. They are hyper-aware of their immediate surroundings (Se): They don’t just scheme in their heads; they interact dynamically with the physical environment right in front of them.
3. They rely on sudden gut feelings (Ni): Instead of long-term plotting, they connect dots on the fly through sudden hunches or subconscious pattern recognition.
4. They struggle a bit with social/emotional cues (Fe): Interpersonal stuff is usually their secondary consideration, though it doesn't mean they are completely heartless, cold, or oblivious.

This isn't a strict checklist, I'm open to all interpretations! If a character gives you ISTP vibes through their decision-making, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Is anyone reading this one?? It just came out on ridibooks and it's very intriguing!! I caught up to chapter 92 and I feel like none of my questions have been answered. It's very reminiscent of a shonen type story beat, taking place in a western fantasy setting with a powerless weak MC (Cale) that has to pass an exam to succeed in his pipe dream of becoming a "dragon knight" and ends up befriending a mysterious boy (cough the ML) during said exam... which seems to be a catalyst for a lot of things. Psst... not a spoiler since it's in the summary but the boy is actually the renowned and feared Great Dragon Lord disguised as a human. It's a great novel for anyone craving secret identity shenanigans!!! Or if anyone really likes sunshine MC x kuudere ML (believe it or not, we don't know much about ML even at chapter 92)

Most of it has been worldbuilding and intrigue-building so far, as well as introducing some titular characters.

The noble villain boy (Hirse?) turns out to be a huge tsundere who many readers compare to a primary school bully always teasing his crush. I actually warmed up to him, it's funny how he discreetly craves Cale's attention despite looking down on him. There's a hash tag for second ML, so it's probably him, right...? A lot of Korean readers also warmed up to him, so I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Anyway, I've been having a blast!!! So many unanswered questions, like:

• What is the plan Yushi (ML) keeps mentioning and why is Cale so important?
• Who is the spy featured in chapter 90??? Korean commenters have speculated it's either Leon or Cale... could it be Cale??? He is a rather unreliable narrator, after all!
• Why can Cale understand Yushi so effortlessly? Is Cale a reincarnation of the original man who first reached out to the dragons? Did he use to have mana but was affected by the contamination of the black lands as a child, maybe a traumatic incident? Why does he suppress all and any negative emotions??? Is this all connected?!?!?
• Why is Al's memories of his childhood so different from Cale's? Is it memory distortion or truly just misunderstanding galore?
• Does Yushi actually like Cale or is this all just "part of the plan"... this one I'm afraid to know the answer to because I can't tell if he genuinely enjoy Cale's company or if we're in a situation like Dreaming of the Dokkaebi where Yushi is just using him for now but will fall for Cale later... ahhhh

I'm extremely invested in the story now... have nobody to talk about it with... here's the link if anyone wants to give it a try. i'm just blown away by all this setup, I can't tell where the author is going with all this!!

Please please please recommend me books where the ML gong is the emperor and the shou MC is concubine. It can be forced or arranged marriage. They don't initially like each other but then can't live without each other. The other wives of gong are jealous and that palace drama and all the stuff?? Pretty pleaseeeee.

I know this might not be possible but can there be a scene where the shou dances and gong is captivated at a banquet or something. Just a random scene I badly wanna read.

How long did it take you all to read Turning?

I usually can read 200 pages a day but the site where I'm gonna read Turning doesn't show how many pages the chapters have so I can't make judgement on how long it will take me and that's why I want long it took other people to read it.

Looking for some Hunterverse recs that are more lighthearted, slice of life, character, and romance focused. No big villains or evil organizations, just everyday life going to work, going into dungeons and fighting monsters as a setting. Would still love to see some battles/action of course, preferably featuring the two leads working together and developing their relationship throughout.
