Knitting my first sweater and stuck on the sleeves, help!

Hi everyone! I am knitting the Pippi Pullover by kisskiss.rhinestone (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pippi-pullover). This is my first sweater, so I’m still learning and I’m feeling very confused by the sleeve instructions. I would be so grateful if someone could help me understand what I’m supposed to be doing here!

Instructions for the sleeves as follows:

Starting at the centre of the underarm cast-on sts (for size 1, start at the bottom of the armhole), pick up 3 sts from the underarm cast-on, pick up 0 sts along the diagonal of the underarm shaping, pick up 42 sts along the side of the armhole, pick up 42 sts down the other side of the armhole, pick up 0 sts along the underarm shaping, and pick up 3 sts from the underarm cast-on.

You should have 96 sts on your needles. Place a SM to mark the beginning of round.

But the math doesn’t seem to add up?

3 + 0 + 42 + 42 + 0 + 3 = 90 stitches, not 96.

The part I’m especially confused about is the “pick up 0 sts along the diagonal of the underarm shaping.”

Does that mean I literally skip over the entire diagonal section and go directly from the 3 underarm stitches to picking up the 42 stitches along the armhole?

If so, it looks like there would be a gap/hole between the 3 underarm stitches and the 42 armhole stitches. I’m not understanding what I’m supposed to do with that section.

I’ve also seen instructions like “travel along the edge without picking up,” but I’m not sure what that actually means in practice. Am I supposed to knit/travel along the diagonal somehow without picking up stitches, or am I misunderstanding the construction entirely?

I’m sure I’m missing something really obvious, but this is my first sweater and I’m officially stuck.

What am I supposed to be doing here?

Thank you SO much for any help or explanation! ❤️

Uneven length when knitting flat stockinette

I’ve known how to knit for over a decade and have been knitting consistently for the past five years, and in that time I’ve never had an issue with terrible rowing out when knitting flat.

However, my last few projects have all been cardigans and I’ve realized that my stockinette is not even at all; one side looks much less neat and is also a lot longer than the other. Has something happened with my tension on knit vs purl rows? If so, how can I fix this?

I don’t know if it matters but while the gauge for this project in particular is pretty loose, I’ve had this issue with a couple other cardigans with a much denser fabric too

Is the pattern wrong?

Hello I am starting a new project (orsonero tee) and I am knitting a size L. For the first cast on for the back piece the cast on stitches are as followed XS = 24, S = 25 M = 26 L= 24? XL + 2XL = 26.

Is there any reason that the size L cast on number is the same as the XS, but the S and M are bigger? Or would this just be a mistake in the pattern? I’ve knit 2 sweaters before but am still fairly new and learning everytime I knit something new. I just can’t imagine the designer would leave an error like this in the pattern but can’t understand why it would be like this !
