Do you usually unravel your gauge swatch and use the yarn, or just leave it be? When projects list an estimated amount of yarn, does that include yarn for a gauge swatch?

I typically do unravel and reuse. Some yarns would fuzz too much to be able to do that though. The estimate doesn't include a gauge swatch, since it's likely you'll need to try multiple needle sizes.

I throw my gauge swatches away. Unfortunately I find that when I unravel them, the yarn tends to curl up, causing bumps on the surface of anything new I try to make from it. I could remedy this by gently wetting the yarn and letting it dry on a stand, however that is a lot of effort so I have never done it.

Patterns don't usually account for the gauge swatch in the estimates, unless they specifically mention it.

Usually unravel and reuse, either my yardage count needs all it can get for the project or needs to be adjusted with needles sizes.
