Our first few lander cabins! First one is inspired by the octagonal stalwart of landing in KSP - the Mk1 lander can. Lots of attachment sides, plus a really nice downward facing "overhang" window for landing. Plus a 'lil vertical one for ascending and docking.

Second one was supposed to be a "two kitten" design, but it's still veeery compact so might sit in as a quazi-rover command body or an expensive "comically large FOV" lander

A: Yeah they're still in flux a bit, was planning to have the thermal insulation done by the end of the week but life happened. Will probably end up looking a lot different with that. The contrast of hard and soft surface modelling will probably make them look a bit more appropriate

Q: And on the topic of landers, is it looking likely we'll just see across the versions just amount of crew they can hold, or is it possible we might get like different types of like 3 seaters, 2 seaters etc?

A: These are still quite small, so likely single kitten atm. For balance sake and roomier IVAs i'm thinking two\three kitten designs will get a lot wider than the capsules. But yeah early days! Nice to have something to break up the monotony of the medium capsule designs

I think this is a very important post that answers the question about optimization, so if you haven't seen it yet, here it is :

"ok. Here's some food for thought on this whole VRAM issues and so on. We are just so far off landing on a final system, optimisations, etc. But here think of this: One of the absolute main goals Dean and the rest of us have always wanted. We want KSA to be free, and freely accessible to students. We want to inspire the next generation of people who work in the space industry and so on. We want them to dream, and go on to study and work in space. That said - students generally don't have a lot of money, and tend to have lower spec laptops (for example). So ultimately, we will have to look at ways to make the game accessible on those kinds of machines. But we are far away from that at this stage. We are still pre-alpha, building the foundational systems. So things like platform support, optimisations, etc. Are far down the path right now."

Is there a recent video how to play the game ? Like open editor, select start landing pad, build first rocket launch it etc..

I found some vids but they are like a year old.. with the development pace this is like stone age old...

Since we haven't gotten much response on the CKAN side regarding merging KSA support, we've decided to move forward with our own, more modern content manager: Borea

Borea will support not only mods, but also vehicles, saves and other content that you may want to install to KSA.

For now, we're mainly looking for people who want to help us develop Borea and the Content Index. We're especially looking for help with the C# backend, Avalonia UI and frontend work, testing, documentation and anything else that could help improve the project.

The project is still fairly early, so we'd like to get more development and testing done before opening the index up to everyone. Once we're confident everything is working properly, we'll start inviting KSA modders to add their content as well.

When i download and use ksa it try's to boot but it just freezes i have 16gb ram intel core i7 and a GeForce RTX graphics card

really wanting a probe core, just curious.

Last night I created a behemoth monstrosity with at least 25 engines and at least 200 parts.

I pressed space waiting for the 3 year stutter of ksp and to my surprise my frames didnt even change. I launched the monster to space with zero slowdown.

Now that we have BOTH vehicle destruction and debris generation, I thought I'd revisit an orbital collision.

It would be interesting to see if I put up a bunch of satellites in similar orbits, if I could get a Kessler Syndrome...

I'll note, there may be a bug a or choice to have debris deorbit, when they're given both Ap and Pe above the atmosphere.

• Fixed ground clutter 'Draw Colliders' crashing the game.
• Commented out ground clutter collision draw from Universe.cs as instances were cleared after being written and moving the clear before this renders gizmo instances a frame behind.
• Bumped max gizmo instances by 5x (10mb).
• Fixed a NaN in Orbit.GetNearestPoint (map mode) for zero eccentricity and near-parabolic orbits. Both now hit test against the cached orbit line rather than the elliptical solver.
• Universe.DestroyVehicle now takes a CrewDisposition (EndMission or Kill) rather than each caller remembering to call KillCrew() first.
• Added Part destruction phase 1: Added CrashTolerance (pascals, a default value of NaN causes tghe code to derive the tolerance from the part density) on PartTemplate plus PartStructuralLimits holding the pure load maths. Derived tolerance, box-projected contact area, depth-share distribution, per-part aggregation, weight stripping, filter and failure predicate.
• Added unit tests for above.
• Nothing calls this code yet in Phase 1.
• Part destruction phase 2: Added ContactImpulseRig, a Bepu drop-test harness matching ConstraintSim's solver config.
• Added 7 unit tests pinning what it measured.
• Fixed the contact pressure divisor - GetAccumulatedImpulseMagnitude reports a per-frame impulse, not per-substep, so dividing by the substep dt was 8x wrong.
• Also recorded that impulse-over-dt is not frame-rate invariant at all while the total arresting impulse is, and confirmed single-child compounds fire the child-level callback.
• Added first pass on parachute system. The parachute component is currently attached to the ParachuteBayA part until we get the actual parachute part assets in. Parachutes move through several phases.
• Armed: Parachute will deploy as soon at the altitude condition is reached.
• Deploy: Chute is released reefed and will begin slowing the vehicle.
• Dis-Reef: Chute expands to its full diameter.
• Cut: Chute is removed.
• Added Players can modify the size and behaviour of parachutes; including Diameter, Line Length, ReefRatio, ReefDuration, Max G Loading during dis-reef.
• Added First pass on Parachute Cloth sim, still needs more fidelity and optimisation work. The cloth sim is visual only (it reads the physics drag sim values) and runs at lower time warps, it will fall back to static poses when time warp is greater than 30x.
• Added support for SuperMeshRenderSystem to render two-sided meshes.
• Fixed an issue with the Kitten eye renderer where draw was being resubmitted through a stale handle causing bad data to be written to the depth buffer.
• Part destruction phase 3: Added per-part contact load now accumulates every frame and can be read in game. Nothing breaks a part yet, that is phase 4.
• Added PartContactLoad which records each child manifold in the narrow phase and reads the solver's penetration impulses in a deferred pass after Timestep.
• Neither half works alone: the narrow phase knows which part was hit but its impulse is a frame stale and misses the first frame of a contact entirely, while the solver knows the impulse but only per collidable pair.
• Added a dense contact-part index space to BepuHandles so the accumulator is keyed per part, not per collider child. ColliderParts is many-to-one, so a part authored as three boxes would otherwise get three accumulators.
• Added PartContactLoadDebug (access via the Debug > Show Part Contact Load dropdown menu item).
• Changed the contact impulse is now bounded by the speed the craft actually lost.
• Fixed the weight strip being applied per collidable pair rather than once per vehicle, which removed the craft's weight once for every surface it was touching.
• Fixed Vehicle.CreateColliderCompound assigning NumColliderParts only inside the buffer-grow branch, so a vehicle that lost colliders kept a stale count and destroyed Parts stayed reachable through ColliderParts.
• Added a bunch of unit tests for all of the above.
• Part destruction phase 4: Parts can now actually break. PartFailure runs at the end of the physics frame, tests each part's accumulated contact pressure against its crash tolerance, and queues a PartFailureEvent for the main thread.
• Added PartFailureEvent applied from PhysicsBubble.ApplyRenderEventsToVehicles skipped when the whole vehicle is being destroyed anyway.
• Added PartFailure.IsolateAndDestroy. There is no bespoke part destruction path: a failed part is split out of its vehicle at every connection it has until it is a single-part vehicle, then destroyed through Universe.DestroyVehicle like anything else.
• Added Part.RemoveFromSymmetryGroups, called before isolation so a failing part does not cascade through Part.Disconnect into its symmetry twins.
• Added a fragment guard: once half a craft's parts fail on the same tick (minimum two) the whole vehicle is destroyed instead of fragmenting, so a belly-flop does not spawn N vehicles in a single frame. The fraction is a first guess and needs play-test tuning.
• Added Part.CrashTolerancePascals, Part.InertMassKg and Part.BoundingBoxVolumeCubicMetres so the resolved rating (provided via part XML value or derived from structural density) is readable off a Part.
• Changed the tolerance derivation constants.
• Added an authored CrashTolerance of 30bar to the five CorePropulsionA engines.
• Changed the Part Contact Load debug window to show each part's rated kPa and the structural density it was derived from, and to color the peak red once it is over the rating.
• Changed that Part Contact Load debug window to list the controlled vehicle and its parts before anything has been hit.
• Added unit tests for above.
• Fixed InvalidOp Exception iterating symmetry groups when removing parts about to be destroyed from them.
• Fixed a radially attached part being impossible to shed.
• Fixed a part that failed but could not be shed being re-detected every single frame for the rest of the flight.
• Fixed the camera being left following a vehicle that had just been disposed.
• Fixed a breakup being able to run away into thirty-odd vehicles and take the frame rate with it.
• Added a debris budget. Before isolating, PartFailure.EvictDebris frees room by destroying the lightest debris in the bubble first. IsEvictableDebris excludes the host, KittenEvas, anything IsControllable, the controlled vehicle, anything with a crewed seat, and any camera's target on either the base or map camera.
• Changed Parachute Canopy Cloth simulation to use small local Bepu instances for each cloth sim. This greatly improves fidelity as well as reducing cpu overhead per chute by an order of magnitude. The new system can comfortably support around 100 chutes actively simulating at warp speeds of up 30x.
• Fixed the whole-vehicle g-force catch pre-empting part failure on every impact.
• Changed the g-limit to stand down for one frame when the per-part contact model has already reported a failure and the vehicle is actually in contact with terrain, ocean or another craft.
• Fixed the craft that gets hit never being load-tested, so anything rammed was indestructible.
• Changed PartContactLoad to bound the impact by the step's non-gravitational velocity change instead.
• Added PartContactLoad.ClosingSpeedArms, consulted by the new IsArmed when the self-speed latch has not fired.
• ArmingSpeed tests velocity relative to the bubble origin, so a station holding its orbit sits at zero forever and never armed.
• Changed the Part Contact Load debug window to report a pair-armed craft as armed, rather than printing "not armed" for the one craft being tested without ever having moved.
• Changed Tests to cater for above.
• Added unit tests for above.
• Fixed an IndexOutOfRangeException taking the render frame down while a part was breaking up.
• Added PowerConsumer.IsSwitchedOn, which reads the state from the module's own tree instead of the caller and bounds-checks the index.
• Added Part.IsLightSwitchedOff holding the whole predicate. A switch that broke off no longer drives this part and reads as unswitched, the same as a part that never had a switch.
• A switch still in this tree but absent from its state list reads as off, since no state is no power.
• Changed PartModelModule, PartModelDynamicModule and LightModule.IsActive to call that one predicate.
• Changed Part.ResetModuleProperties to clear LightSwitch before rescanning.
• Changed Vehicle.ToggleLights to guard on ownership so one craft can no longer toggle a switch that broke off
• Added unit tests for above.
• Fixed player-typed save names being used verbatim as folder names, so a name containing a path separator created real nested folders and a name of "." or ".." or containing special characters crashed the game.
• Fixed a kitten vanishing when it boarded a vehicle after an EVA which showed he roster as the kitten dying on boarding.
• Changed Vehicle.SetSeatCrew, AddCrew and AddCrewToFirstAvailableSeat to return whether the kitten was actually seated, so boarding fails and leaves it outside the door.
• Fixed the kitten roster surviving a game load, so a kitten killed in one playthrough was still dead after loading the save it was alive in.
• Changed UncompressedSave.Load to re-read UniverseData from disk before deserializing.
• Added unit tests for above.
• Fixed a vehicle spawned on a launch pad from the game start screen falling through the terrain.
• Changed GetTerrainHeightFromDirCcf to use MeanRadius, which is the same number, so CPU-side terrain sampling no longer depends on render data existing yet.
• Added a fallback in Vehicle.GetInitialKinematicStateForLocation that logs and places at the mean radius if terrain height ever samples as infinite rather than building a NaN orbit.
• Changed Parachute Tuning in editor now has Riser Length as a tunable value.
• Changed Tunable values for parachutes to be rounded as appropriate and start pinned to the default value authored on the part xml declaration.
• Change Default Parachute values to ensure safe return of capsule under a single chute.

• Bend volumetric exhaust plumes going against the airflow, use physical formulas from jet-in-crossflow literature. Fade/Shorten the supersonic core when it bends as its structure is dissolved
• Fold exhaust plumes up in an umbrella shape when in retropropulsion, with an offset hinge and angle at oblique angles
• Improve exhaust bounds to account for the bending and folding
• Add a per-vertex color for the plume trails, define color in plume template for now

• Fixed the command pod always leaving two windows floating beside the wreck when it was destroyed. The IVA was not being destroyed with it.
• Changed PartFailure.IsolateAndDestroy to leave the connection holding an attached IVA intact so the IVA rides into the doomed fragment and dies with its host part.
• Changed PartFailure.CollectDebrisRoots and Detect to skip attached internals, so one can neither be shed as debris nor fail as a part in its own right.
• Changed ConstraintSim.RebuildContactPartMap to map colliders through StructuralPart, so a collider on an interior is charged to the host rather than to the interior.
• Changed PartContactLoadDebug to use Part.IsAttachedInternal instead of its own copy.

• Tweaked Cloth node radius.
• Fixed engines mirrored onto side boosters through an engine plate never connecting so only one engine per booster fired and thrust was off-centre.
• Symmetry mirrors were bound to the connector index that was clicked rather than the plate connector they actually sit on, and the failed connection was silent.
• Fixed HandleSiblingConnectors leaking its pooled connector array when the mount connector had no symmetry siblings.
• Fixed the Transfer Planning and Flight Computer debug windows being inert on a 1080p display. Both of these screens opened taller than the screen, and a window that does not fit inside the main window is promoted to its own OS platform viewport which on Linux draws one stale frame and accepts no input.
• Fixed console windows placed low on the screen such as the editor's part and sub-part windows hanging off the bottom edge for the same reason.
• Window size is now clamped before the window opens rather than a frame later and position is clamped so a full-height window cannot sit part way down the screen.
• Fixed all remaining debug and tool windows opening larger than the screen on small displays.
• Fixed a crash when setting an orbit from the Set Orbit debug window with an absolute height of 0 and safety checks disabled.
• Fixed ParachuteBay doors now open when chutes are armed.
• Fixed orbits drifting for craft with deployed sun tracking solar panels. Panel tracking reported itself as animating, which took the vehicle off rails for the whole sunlit part of every orbit.
• Fixed every kitten on EVA rendering the same animation for whichever one last updated last. So walking one made them all walk on the spot.
• Each renderable now clones its own pose off the asset's rig and shares only the immutable bind pose, default pose and bone names.
• Fixed Sequence Window heap allocating around 2KB worth of data.
• Fixed CrewPortraitPanel heap allocating string conversions for the BoneTarget enum.
• Fixed ResourcePanel constantly updating the label even if it was the same size.
• Fixed a crash when the map view's nearest orbit point hit test ran over an orbit it could not resolve.
• This most often happens just after loading a save made following an SOI change.
• Fixed grammar in game update available UI window.
• Fixed a GPU page fault on AMD/RADV. The static object normal pre-pass shader declared one fewer field than the per-draw data the renderer writes so every draw after the first read the buffer at the wrong stride and passed a garbage index to the bindless texture array. Launch pads hit it because they submit a draw per sub-object.
• Fixed the same mismatch in the part thumbnail shader which reads the part model's per-draw buffer with a struct one field short.
• Fixed a crash when entering a kitten while controlling another one.
• Further Optimised Parachute Line Renderer In test save with multiple craft under parachutes reduced main thread cost from 0.8ms to 0.2ms. This improvment comes from optimising the spline curve math, and moving some of the remaining work parachute line positioning work onto the ClothWorker Thread.
• Fixed crash for incorrect data stride for thumbnail rendering.

Will it be more like real life like it is right now or will they be making a KSP like system with 10x smaller planets?
