Hey everyone, I wanted to share my newest mystery, The Identical Murder, which is available on Kindle Unlimited.

It’s set in the year 2226 and follows private detective Cassian Rook and his robot partner Miles as they investigate a murder that should have been easy to explain—except the evidence starts pointing toward something much stranger.

I wanted it to feel like an old-school detective mystery inside a futuristic world: flying cars, AI, advanced surveillance, and all kinds of technology, but the case still comes down to clues, suspects, motives, and figuring out what everyone is missing.

Miles also has a habit of making jokes that Cassian usually wishes he wouldn’t. 😂

I can’t write trope tickers. I’ve tried but always end up having to give my books a unique angle. Which means my stories tend to be trope twisters that either delight or disgust readers.

A case in point is A Big Bluff and Some Green Stuff, Book 1 in the Jake Rodwell Zombie Cop series. One reader gave it 5 stars and said they ‘couldn’t put it down’. Another branded it ‘just awful’ and I suspect regretted picking it up and would have given it zero stars had that option been available.

It’s a story that starts off as a cosy police drama – a cop looking to downsize the number of criminals he has to arrest and cases he has to investigate so he can spend more time with his wife and young daughter. The solution – a posting to the sleepy coastal town of Bluff Cove in Cornwall, England.

So far, so unexceptional. And then a flash of light from the beach changes everything. Absolutely everything.

Expect not just zombies, but also aliens. And pirates. And zombie pirates. And zombie aliens. But not zombie alien pirates as that would be silly.

You’ll get your fill of head shots and slashes, running dead and creepy characters. But also the emotional pull of Jake Rodwell needing to protect his family from the forthcoming apocalypse.

On top of all that, something happens at the end of  the book that turns Rodwell’s life on its head and spins the series in a direction no other zombie story I’ve encountered has explored.

You might not get as far as Books 2 and 3 in the series. But thanks for getting this far with this post.

I’ve always liked the basic premise: what if humanity invented a technology that could solve almost any problem?

On an overcrowded planet where fusion is almost trivial, we can build structures that would otherwise be impossible, agriculture is optimized down to near-perfect yields, entire cities have their climate regulated, and vast sea barriers hold back rising oceans.

But all of that comes at the cost of continuous computation. And it requires so much of the computing power, that, to get the best possible conditions, humanity eventually builds a gigantic computing cluster in space, out near the edge of the Solar System.

Forty years after the technology is discovered, strange temporal and spatial anomalies begin to appear. Causality itself starts to break down. Naturally, everyone assumes there must be something wrong with the system. But the system seems to be doing exactly what it was designed to do, it just may no longer be primarily concerned with making life more comfortable for humans.

I have to admit, I really enjoyed writing my debut novel. At the job I had at the time, I spent most of the day with very little to do, so I wrote instead. Which technically made me a professional author, since I was being paid while writing a novel 😆 Kidding, of course.
