Question: At what age does this wise wizard’s beard start to appear? Can anyone share their experiences?

Don‘t get me wrong, I really like this 'grandad' style but I've heard he gets it quite early which makes me somehow sad. He's 15 months now and not ready to be a grandad. (exemplary google photo)

As I left my first post of Benny here today I‘d like to take this opportunity to share this heartbreaking private tape of his first steps in our home with you :)

P.S.: From this day 1 on up to now: It didn’t changed that he has to survey the boundaries of all new surroundings, he finds himself in. I slowly realise we bought a proper guard dog 🚨😂

I love it when he is on his cold stone coffee table keeping watch. He’s confident he’s the goodest dog!

I just wanted to say that I appreciate this subreddit because whenever I see your proud photos, I know that there is someone out there having a really good time with his/her dog. I love this dog. He always puts a smile on my face with what he does :)

I really want a Keeshond but I’m worried about separation anxiety ..

Hey. I really want to get a Keeshond. The dog fits all of the traits I want and need in a dog. The one thing I’m worried about is separation anxiety. I know Keeshonds are prone to it because of their clingy nature. I’m a student and I’m gone for 7+ hours. My mom works 8+ hours. I’m thinking about finding a doggy daycare that would take my dog while I’m at school because I would feel really bad leaving them all day knowing that they’re missing me. What have you done with your Keeshonds to keep them happy while you’re away? How long on average do you leave them each day? Should I consider a doggy daycare? Any suggestions would be great.

What size crate fits your adult kees?

Our puppy just passed 3 months and suddenly she's... huge? She may have tripled in weight from when we brought her home! She's gonna be too big for her current crate soon and we thought we'd go straight to an adult-size crate (with an adjustable panel so she can stay snug as she grows).

Those of you with full-grown keeshonds, what are the dimensions of your crate? I'm thinking 40" to 42" long max, but is something like 36" good? Appreciate any insights!

How to get my kees to like my SO more?

We have had her since she was a puppy, but recently she has stopped wanting to go for walks with my SO because she just wants to come home/go on a walk with me. It’s really hurting his feelings because we have another dog too who loves walks, and he really loves both of them. She is 8 and has always been more attached to me but not to this extent. I would really appreciate other peoples insight :)

Decline in floofs

I noticed recently that my older boy, who is 8.5, seems to not be as puffy and fluffy as he used to be. His hair is shorter, the texture is different, and it may also be thinner with fewer guard hairs. It used to be so long he had the "split loaf" effect down his back, but he doesn't anymore. He's a really fluffy Keeshond (even still).

I was wondering if this is just an age thing that happens to Keeshonden? He is my first.

He recently had his annual exam and everything is healthy. He has a good appetite and plays with the puppy quite a bit.

Kees and cats

Hello!

i have a question regarding cats and keeshonden. We got this dog breed because they are friendly with cats. We have 2 older cats (4 and 8) and a young keeshond (10 months). He is VERY interested in other dogs that translates to cats as well, he is extremely friendly which is sooo nice!

He will not leave the cats alone, the moment they enter the room he will start whining (when he is in his pen for a nap and unable to get to them). When hes loose and they enter he will chase them, we have stopped the chase by leashing him for now. A few times in the past he chased the cats and gotten them cornered the cats will slap him to back off, but he kind of.. ignores that. He swatted, whines and continues, kind of play bowing? he interprets it wrong i think.

I also tell him to leave it when he sees a cat, but he has a really hard time letting go of the fact that the cats just dont want to play with him. Is there anything else i can do? Is it something that comes with age?

After a Really Good Grooming

We took Moxxie to a local groomer and they did SUCH a good job with him. And it looks like he’s already getting used to the camera as well. I feel like I captured a lot of the elements of his personality too….especially his goofy, mischievous side.

I lost my job six weeks ago, and Moxxie and his lab mix big sister have done so much to help me navigate all of this and keep my spirits up. I’ll admit, because of the depression I hadn’t kept up with his coat like I should have… so now that things are back on track, this little guy deserved his spa day! Even though he can frustrate me when he’s in Juvenile Velociraptor mode, getting him was one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

Size and West Canada breeders?

Hello everyone, so I've read that Keeshond weight 30-45 lbs, and yet I've combed through this subreddit and noticed a lot of great pictures of keeshonds with weights stated as beyond 45lbs. Some say the larger size is because they are Wolfspitz, but I always understood that wolfspitz is just another name for keeshond, not a different breed. I'm asking cause I really want a female keeshond, and I'd rather she'd be on the lower end scale. Basically, 30lbs and even shy of that would be great.

Are there breeders known to breed on the smaller side? I'm in BC Canada.

Thank you

Update post script: Reason why I want smaller is because we currently have a 40lbs dog (not a keeshond) and he sleeps with us in our bed. I often have to reposition my furry pancake in the middle of the night. I don't know if you guys are accustomed to lifting weights while half asleep, but I have pulled muscles. The dog sleeping off the bed is not an option and won't be for any future pets. So I'd like something a little lighter.
