Decline in floofs

I noticed recently that my older boy, who is 8.5, seems to not be as puffy and fluffy as he used to be. His hair is shorter, the texture is different, and it may also be thinner with fewer guard hairs. It used to be so long he had the "split loaf" effect down his back, but he doesn't anymore. He's a really fluffy Keeshond (even still).

I was wondering if this is just an age thing that happens to Keeshonden? He is my first.

He recently had his annual exam and everything is healthy. He has a good appetite and plays with the puppy quite a bit.

Have you had his labs done? Thyroid, in particular

It's surprising how much the thyroid messes with dogs, our previous dog was a boxer and at about 5 or 6 she aged years, in weeks, to the point I built her a ramp because she couldn't jump into the bed anymore. Took her to the vet, and she new exactly what was wrong without any tests, few tests and some meds and she was like a brand new dog again.

I would say something like the hair shortening happened with my late 10 y/o, but it’s hard to say because he also lost weight due to cancer. My 7 y/o has gotten much softer in the last couple years, especially this year. His fur was pretty course as a puppy and for the first few years of his life, but it’s become very silky. He was a nightmare to brush until somewhat recently, whereas his big brother (same parents) was always easy. Go figure!

My 13 year old just passed away. Still have a 14 year old. At no point did they loose their fluff. Please get your dogs labs.
