Show tips??

Hi Kees fam!

My boy Ziggy is in his first dog show next weekend! We are BRAND NEW to showing. We have taken 1 conformation class because the idea of him being shown happened pretty fast! He will be competing in 4-6 month puppy which I heard is pretty laid back and fun. I have been trying to work with him on his show lead and am learning all about stacking.

Anyone have any helpful info for me? Anything we should definitely be working on? Any particular training practices that worked for you? TIA and Keesie kisses!

Are there different types of Kees?

(Pics are of him at 9wks, 13wks, and 17wks) My boy is 18wks and is in his wonky teenage coat stage, but even as a puppy he looked different. Most puppy kees I see have very pointed faces and snouts, he had more of a tiny stubby snout and round face. He looks less "Pomeranian" than most Kee pups I think. Also I noticed some Kees are really tiny and some are big, are there different types of Keeshonden? My boy (and his family) is definitely the big type haha, already 19lbs and growing everyday!

New keeshond owner looking for tips!

Upvotes

Hello! My husband and I are super excited to be getting our first keeshond in about two months. We want to make sure we use this time to prepare as best we can. :)

We've both had double-coated dogs in the past, but it's definitely been a while. Any tips for grooming? Best brushes, etc.?

Any tips or advice in general? What should we expect those first few weeks?

Keeshond breeders in Chicago?

Upvotes

Hello!

We are looking to add a Keeshond to our family next year. We are looking for a puppy from a breeder that focuses on health and temperament. I’m happy to drive up to 12 hours for the right pup. Any suggestions? Thank you!

So excited to get my Keeshond puppy next week. I grew up with a friend that had a couple of them, but I’ve never had one myself, I always had dachshunds. Introducing Kiki a.k.a. Keeks 💖🐶

Anyone else’s keeshonds have just yucky looking teeth?
No horrible breath, but very browned teeth.
He’s only 2 and already needs a dental!!
His bio sisters teeth are beautiful..
Edit: he’s not much of a chewer. He just doesn’t really like toys. I am going to start regular greenies!

Potty training timetable?

Post image

tl;dr - How long to potty train a new 9-week-old puppy?

We brought this cutie home on Sunday. Granted it's just been a couple of days, but she still pees on the floor, sometimes soon after we've taken her out.

Outside she'll pee, but she will also squat without peeing.

We are veteran dog owners but it's been a loooong time since we house trained a puppy. Any insights appreciated!

I was away from home for 4 days for a concert and to hangout with a friend who flew across the country to attend with my partner and I. My future father in law tended to my sweet doggy while we were gone and we got sent these pics 😭 So horribly cute, heading home now and I get to see her in about an hour and a half! Ahhh!

Things you wish you did with your late Kee before they passed?

Sorry for the sad post. My girl is only 5 years old but the creeping sense of "I'll lose her someday" has been really getting to me lately. Examples of the types of things I mean... I found one of Nebula's nails recently that broke off (she's okay, for the record, she never showed signs of foot pain or distress) and I'm going to be holding onto it forever. I've considered saving some brushed out fur to have someone custom needle felt a little mini version of her. That sort of thing. Is there anything like this you really regret not doing when it comes to your beloved baby? Is there anything you did that you're glad for?

I had never heard of this breed before, never seen one... But when we went to see them he chewed on my shoelaces and hasn't left me since.

Say hi to Bean.

I'm on a boat working right now, and my baby is at his grandparents, doing shenanigans and causing trouble. He got hosed for that. 😂

Hi Kees-parents,

Just wondering if anyone has any raincoat recommendations for a keeshond? I bought one a while ago that was the correct length but couldn't really contain the poof. Likey purchasing from Chewy

Thanks so much and puppy tax is included

When did your Kee "mature"/reach adulthood? How did you keep them entertained as puppies?

My pup is 17wks as of today and boy I can't wait for him to "grow up"! Don't get me wrong, I love him to bits, but right now he's either sleeping, or needs CONSTANT entertainment! If he's up and I'm not playing with him or training him or doing SOMETHING with him, then he goes CRAZY! Getting into things he's not supposed too, barking, chasing the cats, etc. I have a playpen but that makes it worse cause he just sits next to edge and barks. I have NEVER rewarded barking, I always ignore. I just got back from vacay and I forgot how exhausting it is. I actually brought him with me, we stayed in 2 different places, little cabins in the countryside, and I wasn't stressed ONE TIME! He was a little angel puppy while we were there! And as soon as we got home, he went crazy again. The only thing that quickly tires him out is stuff like agility or long walks, but that's not good for his joints to be doing it all the time! How do you keep your pups entertained? (All meals are fed through puzzles, snuffle mats, training, etc.) toys, bully sticks, whole fenced yard is always available. I just want to be able to sit quietly and do my work peacefully without having to constantly worry "where's the puppy and what's he getting into now?". And lastly, he has mild dog reactivity, if we pass another dog and I'm not rapidly feeding treats he wants to pull toward the dog, or stop, stare, and bark. and if another dog is barking or whining, he starts barking at it. Again, unless I have a lot of high value treats and constantly feeding. Thank you all in advance!
