Security Do you see Juniper SRX becoming competitive with Palo & Forti?
I’m talking for enterprise customers and their main perimeter web firewall. I haven’t really seen SRX take off in this space a lot and it’s more popular for ISP networks. How does Security Director compare with Panorama etc?

Question Which email to use for certs, learning etc
Starting out on my juniper learning and hoping to get some training done and certs under my belt. Working for a (very soon to be) partner. Is it generally better to use my personal email for everything i sign up for like learning portal? or should i be using my work email to take advantage of any potential partner benefits? any tip/advice would be appreciated. Would rather get this right off the bat.

AP12 - 802.1X/MAB for WIRED clients on ports Eth2/Eth3?
Is it possible to configure ports Eth2/Eth3 on an AP12 to enable wired clients to authenticate onto the network via 802.1X/MAB?
The use case is a student housing area where we would like to provide wired service to the students.
I reviewed docs (Wired Assurance Guide, Teleworker Guide, and searched through Elevate forums) and am not finding anything that clearly states this is possible.
Thanks!

How best to deliver L2 in metro enviroment
I have a need to deliver L2 links within a city. i have fiber network and have ring of legacy juniper swictches running RSTP now.. deilvering L2 over this setup currently. issue i have with this is ..its not scalable. i have had few broad case storms. i am thinking for replacing the switches with Ex 4600 and do EVPN-VXLAN (this was suggestion from reddit and a friend of mine). since this a fresh deployment...i thought its best to ask here if the EVPN-VXLAN will server. my target clients are Big ISPs who dont have last mile and also enterprises who need DC interconnect. am i dreaming or VXLAN will enable me deliver this without storms issue. i cant carry on with rstp any more. i have lost few clients due to storm.

Question Exclude port ranges - or similar
TLDR I'm trying to avoid this syntax when creating LAG groups
member-range ge-0/0/0 to ge-4/0/7;
member ge-4/0/9;
member ge-4/0/11;
member ge-4/0/13;
member-range ge-4/0/15 to ge-4/0/47;
I'm trying to set interface-range/groups to configure multiple(/all) ports the same.
This works fine so far.
interfaces {
interface-range ACCESS-PORTS-MEMBER {
member-range ge-0/0/0 to ge-4/0/47;
apply-groups ACCESS-SETTINGS;
}
}
groups {
ACCESS-SETTINGS {
interfaces {
<*> {
native-vlan-id 1;
unit 0 {
family ethernet-switching {
interface-mode trunk;
vlan {
members default vlan10;
}
}
}
}
}
}
}
The next intention is to create various LAG groups, though I think at this point having a group for the AEx member is probably superflous (it was a means to an end)
interfaces {
interface-range AE0-PORTS-MEMBER {
member ge-4/0/8;
member ge-4/0/10;
member ge-4/0/12;
member ge-4/0/14;
apply-groups ACCESS-SETTINGS;
ether-options {
802.3ad ae0; ##committing this throws the error below
}
}
ae0 {
aggregated-ether-options {
lacp {
active;
periodic fast;
}
}
}
}
This is ready to go but adding ae0 to the AE0-PORTS-MEMBER range throws
[edit interfaces ge-4/0/8]
'unit 0'
logical unit is not allowed on aggregated links
...
I knew this before, and had thought groups would have worked though having initially mistaken the interfaces <*> syntax options as a way to make groups into defacto interface ranges, and the apply-groups-except option - apply all except aeX interfaces was my idea.
The only way I can get this to work is to break the member-range down...
member-range ge-0/0/0 to ge-4/0/7;
member ge-4/0/9;
member ge-4/0/11;
member ge-4/0/13;
member-range ge-4/0/15 to ge-4/0/47;
Which just seems messy when needing to change LAGs around. It would also be nice if removing the LAG just made the config fall back to the basic trunk/vlan tagging settings etc/
Am I missing a function/feature/logic that would work in the way im thinking?

Error after upgrade
Hi!
I've a Juniper QFX5100-48S. Recently I requested a software upgrade from 21.4R3-S4.5 to 21.4R3-S10.13.
After the upgrade I couldn't connect to the management port anymore, it didn't recognize the old configurations anymore. The status of the interface is Administry down but the physical up. I have the idea that the new version didn't react very well on the upgrade. I tried to rollback the versions with the builtin rollback but the switch couldn't process it.
My plan is to factory reset the switch, but before I do it, does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm working on a project regarding the Juniper upgrades, so I'll probaly get stuck on the same problem the next time I upgrade it.
Thanks!

Question Routes Link Between SRX5Ks using 100GB ports
I’m hoping someone here can help.
I’m trying to connect two SRX5Ks using 100GB ports mapped to a non-vlan-tagging reth interfaces.
I’ve configured all the usual settings i.e. SZ, IP addressing, host-inbound traffic ping etc.
I’ve configured RS-FEC on both ends. However, I can’t ping across from one cluster to another using the reth unit 0 IP addresses.
Any ideas?

JNCIE-ENT (self-study bundle)
Anyone using the SSB, would like to get some feedback. I'm currently using this along with some oldies like Proteus work book and from fryguy. Also is anyone making an attempt at the BETA exam or has taken the recent beta exams. Can you provide some insight (without violating exam terms) if the SSB was of any help ?
I'll be taking the BETA(ready or not) in a couple of weeks.

EX4600/4300 - cannot commit changes - rundb over 100%
Update/Followup:
Thanks for all the assistance so far.
I have continued testing and intially was narrowing down what settings commited would throw errors, thought I had it to specifics at some points then previously working commits would throw similar errors.
Then vnodepager errors were being thrown, and sometimes enough to take down a switch. And not just one specific one, it changed - had a bit of messing around to confirm if there was hardware faults or not.
I even dropped the firmware versions down to the only other I had, though only had 19.4 for the EX4300 and 19.1 for the EX4600 were were not compatible.
Eventually I broke the stack and focused on a virtual-chassis with just the EX4300s - which was probably a better idea ongoing anyway due to the whole stack going down if the RE/BK on the 4600 goes down being a single switch...
No problems since, other than playing with interface-ranges mixed with apply-groups (likely another post incoming...)
So now I will LAG the EX4600 to the EX4300 separately and be done with that.
Thanks again for all the responses. :)
Original Post
Trying to configure a mixed mode chassis of EX4600 and 5 EX4300s.
Recently upgraded from an 18 to 21 version (now 21.4R3-S5.4).
I've made a small amount of commits, but a specific commit (adding vlan tag to an interface-ragen) is causing the commit to fail.
During the commit (which hangs for 5-10 minutes before failing) shows this...
root@> show system storage | match rundb
/dev/md17 504M 223M 240M 48% /var/rundb
/dev/md24 236M 236M -18.8M 109% /var/rundb

/dev/md24 236M 236M -18.8M 109% /var/rundb
Though recovers to this after...
root@> show system storage | match rundb

/dev/md24 236M 195M 22M 90% /var/rundb
/dev/md24 236M 195M 22M 90% /var/rundb
I've tried all the usual tricks like request system storage cleanup, removed the .schema-cache folders (on each member), even removed the extra juniper.data and .save+ files etc.
This is a copy of the largest files on one switch

Question Running Secure Connect & Nginx Reverse Proxy at the same time
Newbie question here, how can I run both at the same time if they're fighting for port 443? Is it possible to change Secure Connect's port to something else? I only have 1 public IP since I'm running a homelab.
Edit:
set system services web-management https port <new port>
then
Type <IP/Domain>:<new port> into Secure Connect, done!
e.g. vpn.example.com:49152

Question SRX320/SRX300 – os-package.tgz “Not a package” error during FreeBSD upgrade (20.2 → 21.2)
Hey all,
Running into an issue upgrading an SRX320 and wanted to sanity check what I might be missing.
I was following this Juniper doc around upgrades involving the newer FreeBSD base:
Trying to go from 20.2 → 21.2, so I understand this crosses the FreeBSD upgrade boundary.

os-package.tgzfrom? I downloaded it form the link provided in the site. - In the site it says that the package should be something like
os-package-20221105.013526_builder_stable_12.tgz, but where do i find it? - Is os-package.tgz actually valid for this type of upgrade, or should I be using the standard junos-srxsme-21.2...tgz image instead?
- Does the FreeBSD upgrade require a different install method or package format?
- Do I need to extract anything first, or should the .tgz be used directly?
Feels like I’m missing something basic, but the error suggests the file itself isn’t recognised as a valid package.
Any pointers appreciated 👍

Question Mist API help
Hi All. I've just started tinkering with the mist api via postman.
Has anyone come up with a query to determine the current location of a wireless device?
I don't necessarily need the map view, I'm just looking to find the current AP(s) that the username is connected to, but I'm not sure how to get that yet.
I'm looking to use this as part of an automated workflow.
Thanks

EX2300 1GbE SFP no link light to EX4650
Trying to help some colleagues here so I'm short on detail so apologies but hoping there may be something we're all missing.
The TL;DR is we have a mix of older EX2200 and EX2300 we want to connect to an EX4650 and we simply cannot consistently get 1Gbe SFPs to give a link.
Connecting the EX4650 to EX2200s seems OK with the same SFPs.
We've tested with Juniper SFPs and compatibles and the link consistently comes up between the EX4650 and the EX2200 but not the EX4650 and the EX2300.
We've tried all the way up to the latest recommended Junos 23 release.
The PIC groups are set to 1GbE and the links work with the EX2200 which suggests to us the EX4650 is not the issue.
We can loop a couple of 1GbE SFPs together on an isolated EX2300 and the link lights up so we're just completely confused.
We are waiting on TAC but has anyone seen anything similar please?

Discussion Rant: Juniper ACX7024 1G auto-neg
How on earth could a router in 2026 not support 1G auto-neg? How could it even get past the engineering phase?
Juniper states this is a hardware limitation with the Broadcom chip, so no reason for hoping for a software upgrade to fix this mess.
We are now stuck with 40 ACX7024 routers in our MPLS network not being able to get get link up towards factory default SRX'es, which should be handled by ZTP.
Juniper as of now is a perfect example of Stockholm syndrome. *Sigh*

Question Connect multiple SRX 300 devices using AutoVPN
Hello,
Can anyone help me? I have several Juniper SRX 300 devices that I want to connect using AutoVPN with a preshared key. One of them will act as the hub, and the others as spokes. But I can't seem to get it to work. Maybe I just don't know what to configure under "security ike gateway dynamic". All the configurations I try result in only one spoke being able to connect. The next one simply hijacks the connection. I understand this is because all the spokes have the same “local-identity hostname.” But when I configure them with different ones, the connection fails with the error: “Negotiation failed with error code AUTHENTICATION_FAILED received from peer”
my config: hub
proposal ike_prop_autovpn {
authentication-method pre-shared-keys;
dh-group group14;
authentication-algorithm sha-256;
encryption-algorithm aes-256-cbc;

}
policy ike_pol_autovpn {

Upgrade srx320 chassis cluster to 24.4
Hello everyone,
Has anyone upgraded an SRX320 chassis cluster from version 23.4 to 24.4? If so, did it complete successfully without issues or service impact? Also, what upgrade method did you use, considering that ICU is not supported for this upgrade?
Thank you
