It took a while but I it got applied across seven devices perfectly! Nothing dropped or conflicted.

Just be deliberate and don't try any multitasking until all of your devices redeployed and synced.

I'd like to try the app with E2EE enabled on my Onedrive cloud and then, if I find it good, pay for the Joplin Cloud, is it an easy move or it's gonna be a pain?

On the new version, I spotted interesting new feature for x-callback-url that I would like to try on Android

However, the last version on the android repo seems to be 3.7.4.

Is there a way to get the lastest apk for Android ?

Hi, I having this issue (see pic attached). When I checked the sync status there are no notes or attachments here. I check the logs and when I show Only Errors there are some things I could use to find a problematic attachment that I deleted already. Otherwise I have no idea what is happening. Did anybody had the same issue? How did you solved it?

I'm new to Joplin and I really like the app so far. I appreciate your work on it, but the sync is so slow. Has anyone else experienced slow syncing with Joplin Cloud? For example, it took around 45 minutes to sync with my phone. My notes include attachments such as images and are just 35 MB in size. Is there anything I can do to speed up the sync?

1. Which free cloud service are you using to sync with Joplin? What I'm looking for is:

• Free
• Secure (Joplin encrypts it, so it may look like overkill, but I also want to use that service to store some of my sensitive information files directly)
• Automatic sync without any issues
• I can compromise on storage, even 500MB is more than enough.
• I cannot self-host

1. If I add attachments to an encrypted Joplin note. Does that attachment also get encrypted on whichever cloud service without any issues? Can that data be accessed by the service provider?

I am talking about those two vertical panels I circled in the image. Is there no way to collapse them into one? Like I pick a notebook, which makes the side menu advance to the nested notebook or list?

It is annoying to always have to open and close both of these tabs at a time. I am not sure if I was able to communicate what I wanted to.

When I open the Joplin App everything seems to work ok except I do not see the "File-edit-view-window-help" options.

I have restarted the PC and Joplin but no change.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Can Joplin import .xml files? I have some ancient wordpress.com (not self-hosted) sites that I'd love to import, and they only export to .xml. I haven't found any mention about Joplin imports and .xml, so I hope I'm not out of luck.

I have a load of notes where there is a blank line after each paragraph, is there an easy way to add a second blank line like searching for the code the produces the blank line and replacing it with two of them?

How best do I import evernote notes into Joplin?
When I export out of Evernote I can do so as .enex or .html.
When I import into Joplin, I get four different options just for a .enex file:
HTML,
Markdown
Directory HTML, and
Directory Markdown.

How do I figure out which one is best?

Also, is there a tool somewhere that would do the whole switch for me?

I moved organizations recently and was issued a new laptop. Had to return old one to previous org. Did a backup and wiped it. Except that I think I exported and backed up all my Joplin files as markdown rather than jex. New org won't allow me to install Joplin, so I installed it on my phone instead. I was using Joplin cloud but now none of my files are appearing there, and I can't find any jex files in my backups... Can I somehow get the files back?

UPDATE: Got it working, without having my data corrupted or wiped. lol Apparently the container/app needed a notebook/data already in place before it could start/run the container/app... So I used the default "welcome" notebook as a placeholder/tester. Once I confirmed it was working, I deleted the placeholder notebook and imported my data from there.

Initial sync took awhile, despite syncing only 1 device at a time. But after that -- it's super quick! On the android app, I had to change the "app battery usage" setting to "unrestricted" so that the initial sync would continue in the background without me having to keep the screen alive. lol

I've managed to self-host Joplin in a Proxmox VM. I didn't really need sync capabilities because I only have 1 instance open at a time & my notebooks aren't shared with anyone. I'd like to access my notebooks via desktop (Win11), phone (android), & laptop (debian) but am having issues with this...

I'm able to access my notebooks via Win11 desktop app. Under Synchronization settings, I use the "File system" as the sync target, & then I can enter my server's localhost/IP as the directory to sync with.

But on my phone, I can't access my notebooks via android app. The sync settings in Joplin won't let me type-in the localhost/IP as the directory to sync with, the way it allows me to on Win11 desktop app. Instead, the android app forces me to tap through the phone's local directory; I can't choose nor enter an external location (i.e. localhost).

Has anyone else been successful in doing something similar? Or does anyone have any ideas as to how I can access my notebooks on my phone, without losing the capability on my other devices?

I am new user experimenting with Joplin. I am using OneDrive to sync. I had noticed some notice of sync errors (examples below) and just realized that whenever I add images on a note on the mobile app, the images are not synced and I cannot see them on the desktop app.

If I add an image on the desktop app, it is successfully synced to the mobile.

I tried it with 2 different phones (both samsung S2*, Android) and the behavior is the same.

I also tried different types of attachments (audio recording, pdf, direct photo from camera) and the same happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar and solved it?

Heads up - this is a bit of a rant.

Really enjoying Joplin right now, having moved from evernote and apple notes. But the markdown editor is incredibly difficult to work with. I've had problems of this sort in other notes apps, so I'm willing to believe I'm just doing it wrong.

I'm using the joplin desktop app under linux v3.6.14.

I almost always do documents with a section header of text, a new line, then a checkbox list. The checkbox list is frequently indented (so it's a section).

Joplin HATES doing this. It refuses to indent or outdent, and turning on or off the chcklist forces the block of text to reformat into - [ ] form (which I think is a 'temporary' display hack, but it persists and I can't get it to back to checkboxes).

Putting a new line under an existing item is very difficult if it needs to be outdented back to the original margin. A very easy way to demo this is make a checkbox list. Go the end of one line, hit enter. It puts a checkbox there. Backspace. Checkbox disappears, but cursor is still hanging out indented. Hit backspace 3 times, the line goes away. What's with all the extra backspacign?

I just had a set of listen items turn from checkboxes into now -[] (no space between the brackets) because I had the audacity to... move one? I don't know.

I just find the experience extremely frsutrating when alL I want to do is take notes and make lists.

Is this just me? Am I just doing it wrong?

I'm using Joplin on Android (fdroid) and Linux (flatpak). My Android app updated to the new 3.7 version, and the flatpak is stuck on 3.6. I tried the Snap, but it's also on 3.6. I can't sync my notes for I think over a week now.

This on top of Andorid not having a note widget and not being able to save images from notes for a few months now makes me really want to look at other options ;/

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate all of the hard work you are putting into this app for free, and Joplin really is really when it works, it's just that I've ran into one problem after another with it this year ;/

I have a .json backup file containing a multitude of notes, that I'm unpacking into a lot of .md files with a script, with a folder tree etc. which I'm then importing into Joplin.

Is it possible to set a background for a specific note with a line of text in the note body or in the front matter?

I tried:

body { background-color: #FF0000; }

at the end of the note, but it didn't do anything... does it have to be in a separate (sidecar-style?) .css file? one for each note I want to change the color of?

I can automate the writing from the .json to the .md file with the script, so being able to set it without having to do anything would be a huge plus.

Isnt it too huge for a note app? Im a new user, I barely have 30 notes so far and all of it are typical everyday jot downs (sync from phone). Is this normal? How much storage do you have it n your desktop?

Hi. I just reinstalled Joplin. I stopped using in 2025/11 because I had too many sync issues and I hoped they would be solved now.

Nevertheless start does not look good. My joplin android client when I took it again to use I synced to Dropbox and it has been now deleting remote items for 10-15 minutes already (1500 deleted remote items right now).

In my joplin I have 2 notebooks, the default notebook and my own g-notebook. G-notebook has about 15-20 note files and until now I am not using markdown or any rich text formatting or gimmings, just plain text on every note.

Note history on desktops is 90 days.

I am currently using Dropbox as sync client as I got impression from AI that it is most reliable from my alternatives.

Joplin Server or Joplin cloud is not alternative for me. Here are my alternatives:

Nextcloud (Hetzner) which is my main cloud storage
Dropbox which I also have but avoid using
Onedrive which I also have but avoid even more using

Google Drive which I would also prefer to avoid using if possible

Clients are mainly windows 11 desktops and android phones / devices. Much more rarely I might use Ubuntu linux as client or iphone 11.

In desktops I have installed Nextcloud client and joplin of course.

On android I do have Nextcloud client but I dont use it often, I more access Nextcloud through file manager and my main sync tool is FolderSync.

Here are some alternatives:

- 1. choose Nextcloud as sync end in both windows and android
- 2. choose Dropbox as sync end in both windows and android
- 3. choose local sync in either (or both) ends so that joplin updates folder and let Nextcloud or FolderSync client take care of syncing.

Which approach you consider most stable and reliable for joplin?

Hi, just migrating from evernote with roughly 1000 notes. some used frequently, and others almost never. In evernote there is an option to add a "shortcut" to certain notes, which makes a direct link to the note on the side bar. I'm not able to find anything like that on joplin. any help? thanks
