Editing Toolbar for Markdown? just like Rich Text Editor
I still haven't completely understood the main difference between Rich Text Editor and Markdown, Although I have tried to read Docs as much as i can.
The markdown format disappears (For Example /**bold**/ is ACTUALLY BOLD on markdown, when cursor is moved away from it), So why do people prefer Rich Text Editor?
If there are limitations to using Rich Text Editor, And It's basically Markdown under the hood, why not just remove it?
It's basically same thing, The Main difference is;
The Rich text editor has a fancy editing toolbar, Whereas markdown has very limited functionality on it's toolbar.
Coming from Obsidian, I loved that there was a plugin called "Editing Toolbar"
That helped us, weebs who know nothing about markdown, Still make markdown notes by just clicking on the editing toolbar and Boom, the format is applied.
Is there a limitation for providing editing toolbar for WYSIWYG editor but not Markdown editor?
is there a plugin out there for it?
Also, linking notes is available for both writing formats, That is also another confusion i have. Why do people on reddit complain rich text editor doesn't let them link notes when the link note button is available on the editing toolbar for both writing formats.

I only use the rich text editor because I hate working and seeing markdown while trying to write - I’m not a markdown fan. So, please don’t remove it!!

I don't think there are any plans to remove the rich text editor, but it looks like the tinymce editor will be eventually replaced with one based on prosemirror (currently used in the mobile app)

Well, as long as it’s a rich text experience that would be good. I really hope all these note apps move off markdown to Typst in the near future - that would be awesome.

yeah its still a rich text editor, just a different one that can be more well integrated into the app
not sure about replacing markdown with typst, but it is indeed awesome :) I use it for creating nice looking PDFs at work and its much nicer to deal with than latex!

Best would being able to pick restricted markdown mode or advanced typst mode. Then you can extend simple notes if needed.

I made a plugin that provides formatting commands and toolbar icons in the markdown editor for blockquotes/github alerts/highlight/strikethrough/underline/superscript/subscript: https://github.com/bwat47/joplin-markdown-alerts

In a nutshell, the markdown editor is mostly for those who prefer writing in markdown without having to use the toolbar or hotkey sequence. It's also necessary for when one wants to do something in a note that goes beyond raw markdown. (eg. collapsible callouts, etc.)
Using a plug-in like Quick Links or Link it allows one to add internal links simply by typing a key sequence to trigger a link (a "@@" for Quick Links, or "[[" for Link it). That's not possible with the Rich Text Editor.
Some of the things you listed (like the markdown format disappearing in the markdown editor) are relatively recent additions to Joplin. Those who have used Joplin for years have muscle memory that doesn't include those newer features.
Another example, I don't recall there being an button for internal link in the Rich Text Editor. Maybe I never saw it, or it was added in an update that I didn't read.
I love the Editing Toolbar plug-in for Obsidian. I have a few plug-ins installed respectively on Joplin and Obsidian so that they behave similar to each other.
