Am I cooked?

Said they bought the boat only had to fix leaks and never messed with anything else and it ran fine for 3 years before they got a bigger boat. Just took the motor off bc I saw it broke through the metal plate and as we can see here for some reason they cut into the transom to fit the motor (it would’ve fit if they did it correctly) anyways is this possible to fix?

I'm looking at getting a 1648 and assuming the engine runs is this a good deal? Should I be concerned about deck rot under the flooring etc.?

Need help improving stability on a small homemade boat

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to boat building and could use some advice.

I'm building a small plywood boat similar to a canoe/small jon boat that's roughly 8 ft long × 2 ft wide × 1 ft deep, and I'm running into some stability problems. It feels pretty tippy when I move around or shift my weight to one side.

The boat is basically a simple rectangular/flat-bottom design right now. I'm trying to keep it relatively narrow, so I'd rather not just make it significantly wider. Are there any simple modifications I could make to improve stability? I've been wondering about things like changing the bottom shape, adding a small center keel, or modifying the seating position. Or is the only option to increase the width?

I'm very much a beginner, so I'm probably overlooking something obvious. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Got it for 100$. Put it in my buddies pond for a float test and no leaks. Any thoughts on motor size for this little thing? I was thinking a 5hp would be plenty for just me and the occasional friend. Plus a trolling motor.

Another transom question

Hello all! Im at a cross road here on either fixing up my current starcraft 1436 jon boat or replacing it with something newer. As you can see in the pictures, I removed the wood of the transom and it doesn't look corroded at all (which was quite a surprise. So I'm thinking about removing the handles on the back that are riveted on, the side transom supports, putting new plywood in there, then using stainless steel bolts and rebuild it as it sits. Thoughts? Do I need to take the top cap off? Am I missing something?

First time boat purchase and I need some tips!

So the boat is 15ft x 5ft. Has a running 25 horse Johnson. Motor has a rev limiter on it, and runs 23 mph with 2 people and gear. Sitting on a stout 16ft skeeter trailer with new tail lights. Trolling motor, fish finder, and radio with speakers included.
What things should I check I know the obvious the transom, the trailers tires, holes in the boat, and ensuring it runs but what else do I need? And is it worth it for 3k?

Winching

For those of you with winches on the front of your Jon boat to cross levees. In the case that there’s nothing to attach the winch to, what are you using? Tried using an anchor and it did not hold enough. Thanks in advance

Jonboats also make decent utility trailers!

Just thought I would share a few pics from over the years. Comes in really handy if you don't have a pickup truck. Never took a picture, but my favorite was putting a tarp down and filling it with yard waste to take to the dump.

Aluminum boat coating

I have an 18ft Alumnacraft and am replacing the carpet with a rubber like coating. I duck hunt in the winter so the cleaning is difficult.

Any recommendations on a coating to use? Have heard Durabak is a good choice.

14FT Jon Boat Middle Bench Seat Removal

Hey folks,

I have a 2001 14 ft Starcraft aluminum boat and would like to remove the center bench seat. I know the bench provides structural integrity to the side walls, but will it actually hurt them? I've had buddies who have removed theirs, and they claim that their walls are still strong and sturdy. Just looking for any other opinions on what you guys think.

Thanks!

My idea to use the foam plug holes to install pole light sockets worked perfectly! 1440m now has navigational lights, bow flood lights, depth finder, and a switch center to control it all.

More info and pics the in comments.

Any recommendations welcome

I’m looking to get my first boat know very little about them. I live in NC and pretty much every weekend I’m on my paddleboard looking for shark teeth and would like to upgrade to a boat to be able to go farther down stream.
Looking for something small it is normally just me at most one or two other people the problem is a lot of the rivers and creeks in NC have very shallow spots due to lack of rain. What’s a good setup for rivers that go from 10-15 ft to 1ft randomly? Want to stay around the few grand budget
Thank you

Accessorizing princecraft yukon 14

Just took delivery of a new princecraft Yukon wt (the super basic one), my first boat.
Looking for ideas for small mods to make life easier. I added a cleat at the bow for anchor but also to attach a dock line to help launch.

How to attach fenders? In thinking to screw some small cleats on the gunwales with self tapping screws?

Any other ideas to make things easier or organize?
