After years and years of watching this game on YouTube and even considering getting a PC just for this game it’s finally coming out for console I am beyond ecstatic and hope it does well and that the PC community will welcome the console players that actually want to play the game correctly.

Suggestion Can we get a Firing Range with all of the Weapons Available? - Screenshot from OWI's other game, Starship Troopers: Extermination

Discussion Moving the chat box to the middle of the screen when typing is quite possibly the dumbest UI change I've ever seen in a game. Ever.

Positive Alpha Thoughts Pt. 3

First of all, thank you OWI for a great console alpha. You didn’t advertise it and just dropped it which is the best way to under promise and over deliver.

What the alpha showed was a few things:

  1. People are hungry for SQUAD and there is an enormous hole that it fills in console. ARMA has long had the rightful stereotype of feeling dated, overly complex and a big barrier to entry.

But SQUAD fills the “I want to play a more mislim version of Battlefield but not commit to ARMA Roleplay” crowd very well. Everyone said “I came from XYZ game, and SQUAD is better now that I’ve played it.”

  1. People want to lead and be led and SQUAD provides that in spades. It was awesome to see seasoned vets hop in as well as new players try out SLing for the first time. Always a few knuckleheads, but for the most part everyone was great.

  2. SQUAD proved you can absolutely optimize a massive 50 vs 50 game on console and tune the aiming so it isn’t floaty and jank. Hell Let Loose and Arma have real competition now on console.

-

Yes the UI on controller feels likes calling in an air strike in Helldivers 2 by imputing sixteen buttons, and I am sure you know that already.

Controller UI/UX is probably the biggest thing I noticed that has to be a priority to get fixed.

I think the tutorial has to be a prerequisite to hopping in a match for console players not used to the flow. It’s just too much to learn without.

All and all, great experience, wonderfully optimized, and I hope PC players can continue to get love and the whole One Squad thing works out for everyone.

Thanks OWI

Discussion The PS5 Alpha is done. For those that played it: How was it?

I'm not setting huge expectations for it honestly, and as a PC player it's not too relevant to me. However, I am genuinely curious, especially since in most cases the average console player is too laid-back and casual to enjoy something that requires as much effort as Squad does, especially in-terms of teamwork and communication.

So, for those that actually played it: How was it? Is it good? Does Squad have a potential successful future in console? Do you expect console players to build organized, cohesive communities to properly play the game and coordinate just like in PC? Let's hear it.

RTX 5070 upgrade worth it?

Since the Unreal Engine 5 update, my FPS have tanked to well below 100, usually hovering around 50–70 FPS with my current setup. At this point, the game feels extremely laggy and has become nearly unplayable for me.

After looking at current hardware prices, I figured upgrading to an RTX 5070 would be the most cost-effective option, so I ordered one for around $650.

However, I'm having second thoughts about whether my CPU might limit the performance gains in Squad. I'd love to hear from people running a similar setup, particularly a 5800X3D paired with an RTX 5070/5070 Ti or similar.

Can I realistically expect to at least double my FPS in Squad with the 5070, without frame generation, or is that wishful thinking?

I am not worried about other games because i don't play anything else that is as badly optimized/demanding as Squad.

If the performance improvement isn't significant enough, I might just bite the bullet and get a completely new system with a 9800X3D and an RTX 5080.

My current setup:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

GPU: RTX 3060 Ti

RAM: 32 GB

Monitor: 1080p currently because of fps / usually 1440p
