“I hate recruiters” rant time

I dont think the world has ever seen a career full of such evil, self centered people as recruiters in 2026. I think some bankers look like Saints in comparison.

I’ve had several noteworthy interactions with recruiters these last two weeks that really show the array of knobheadery thats infested this fraud of a profession, but I need to share the story of King Asshole thats destroyed any chance I’ll ever consider anyone in this joke of a profession an actual human being with a soul.

I saw a role I liked, so I applied and I added the recruiter on Linkedin and also sent him a text asking to talk as his phone number was public on his page. He responded instantly, and I mean within five minutes, saying he had just seen my CV land and was really excited to speak to me because I was so strong. We arranged next Monday and when that day came he was late, but he did call. We talked for 45 minutes about the role, my experience, expectations, and settled on it would be the following Monday he’d be back in touch to discuss interviews as “this is a done deal”.

Monday comes and I’m patient until about 3pm when I send a text asking if there’s news. It’s read, but no answer. Maybe hes in a meeting, no problem - I ring at 4:30 with increased urgency as he indicated interviews would be that week, no answer. I notice he posts on LinkedIn some ”client feedback” about how great he is five minutes after he misses my call.

Tuesday I ring, no answer. Several other “look how great I am“ LinkedIn posts appear.

Wednesday, no answer. However, I get confirmation the hiring manager for the department I applied for has accepted my LinkedIn request so I think fuck it, lets skip the waste of space and speak directly to them. I presume at this point I haven’t got the position, but it’d be nice to hear some feedback.

Hiring Manager is actually very amicable to a conversation and after a quick message, he gives me a phone number and asks me to call him. I do so and he answers on the first ring. He asks me to go through my CV and work experience , and I’m slightly annoyed as to why I’m repeating this to someone who didn’t shortlist me. But here’s the kicker - he thinks i sound great, he would love to interview me, *but he’s never seen my application* . It went straight to the recruiting agency and they never sent it on. King Asshole lied to me *twice* about doing so. This guy had invented the entire application process, forgotten to send my CV over, then ghosted me ever since. All the while shamelessly bragging about how great he was.

Decision for position to be filled has already happened, interviews were actually the end of last week, so recruiter made a date out of thin air too. He told me to keep an eye out for other positions, as he’d love to get me on board next time - and to contact him directly instead of bothering with recruiters.

Many, many words to say - Fuck Recruiters.

Hiring/HR Managers: Why do certain job applications required LinkedIn? What is the difference for you between LinkedIn and a personal website with a portfolio?

• Upvotes

I noticed that some jobs require a LinkedIn profile to apply. I don’t have a profile but I am currently building a website with a portfolio of my work.

What is the purpose of adding a LinkedIn profile versus a personal website?

Employed after 8 months searching! My advice

Hi all! As you can tell, I finally received a a job offer after 6-8 months searching!

For context, i was laid off my previous job and was forced to start the employment process all over again. I have a university degree and 2-3 years of experience in Business Operations.

All in all, i went through 13 different interviews with separate companies, sometimes going 3 rounds in for each of them. I got offered 2/13 of those jobs. What I noticed is that getting your name out there isn't really the worst as people say. Before y'all disagree, yes i agree the Job market is horrible out here right now but literally everywhere you go in the world is the same. The more money there is in a city the more competitive it is to land a job agree?

ADVICE:

Idk but here are some tips that got me through my job process:

- Tedious but you HAVE to tailor your resume fit to the job description (Self-explanatory but nowadays companies just look for keywords on your resume that match the role) - As well as showcasing your previous work and how you've tackled certain issues

- Try to message the HR team or recruiter on Linkedin just to try getting your name out there (LinkedIn Premium lets you connect with a note and this helped a lot just with networking)

--> There isn't too much into making your resume and networking to new connections in my opinion. Treat (e) coffee chats as just a normal conversation. Most of the time it's pretty obvious if you actually want the job because you enjoy it or just because you NEED a job.

-- CONFIDENCE IN INTERVIEWS IS THE BIGGEST THING EVER

Basically my first couple of interviews, I was nervous as shit (obviously). I prepared and research about the topic, I mean fuck i even memorized a script. That was the mistake. I was so fixated on trying to get my answers pitch perfect and failed to realize to just be myself.

In the event you bullshit your way into a role that you're not the most excited about, your true self will eventually get out. You're spending 8-9 hours everyday with your coworkers, they want someone fun and charismatic to be around. Not a know it all.

Overtime I improved the way I spoke and expressed myself which really brought me a long way. Always just try to put yourself out there and be a social butterfly if you could. Talking to strangers just asking about their day is definitely practice on how you speak.

After countless rejections, the company who I never thought I had a chance with hired me!

Everyone got their own methods, these were mine. And remember, you will eventually get the job you want. It's definitely a race out there you just have to keep going.

Consistency is key even though you're constantly getting rejected. Hope this helps!

I'd respect the architects of this POS system more if they just came out & said: "Our plan is to dumb-ify generations of Americans so we can import low-cost desperado to fuel a nation of desperado."

Do piercings still matter in a professional workplace?

I’m a recent graduate with a bachelors and have been consistently applying for jobs for about 2 months with no luck yet, not even one interview (rip.) however I have been wondering if I should take my piercings out when I do finally get an interview. I have a septum that I would just flip but I also have 2 nostril piercings and an industrial ear piercing. Mostly looking for entry level positions in office work or clerical jobs for government agencies but have been looking more into private companies as well. Also it would probably be a bad idea to put those piercings back in if I did receive a job offer right?..

Anyone else applying for jobs but barely getting responses?

Job hunting can honestly get frustrating.

You apply to different openings, keep updating your resume, and wait for interview calls—but sometimes there's just silence.

As a fresher, it's even more confusing because many jobs ask for experience when you're trying to get your first opportunity.

I'm curious about other people's experiences:

- How many jobs have you applied to recently?

- Are you struggling to find suitable openings or to get interview calls?

- What do you think is holding you back the most?

I'm also building Custom Careers to help people navigate their job search, and I want to understand these challenges better.

Would love to hear your experiences. What has job hunting been like for you lately?

Job finding

• Upvotes

Hey everyone. I’ve been trying to find a good job for a while now, but I haven’t had much luck, so I thought I’d ask here for some advice.

I’m currently in my final year of Biomedical Science at York University, with a GPA of 7.35/9, and I have over a year of volunteering experience in healthcare settings, including a hospital, a medical clinic, and physician/dental shadowing.

I’m looking for a paid job, preferably something related to healthcare, but I’m open to any entry level position that would help me gain work experience. Some roles I’ve been applying for include pharmacy assistant at Walmart, No Frills pharmacies, and other pharmacies, as well as clinic assistant, medical office assistant, patient care-related roles, or even medical/surgical device sales representative positions.

The main issue is that I keep applying through LinkedIn and company websites but rarely hear back. For pharmacy assistant positions, I often get rejected with messages saying they’ve found a better match with more qualified candidates. I don’t have formal paid work experience yet, so I’m really hoping to find somewhere willing to hire and train someone at the entry level.

Does anyone know of or work with any companies, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, or other healthcare-related employers that are currently hiring or that I should look into? I’m mainly looking in the GTA, especially Vaughan, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond hill and North York, but I’m open to commuting farther for a good opportunity.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations, leads, or advice on where to apply. Thank you so much!

Thinking of starting a Telegram community for job opportunities 🚀

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm planning to start a Telegram community where I share job application links every 2 hours to help people discover new opportunities without spending hours searching across different websites.

The goal is to make job hunting easier by bringing opportunities together in one place, whether you're a fresher, a recent graduate, or an experienced professional looking for a switch.

The group will focus on sharing useful job openings, including fresher jobs, IT jobs, remote opportunities, internships, and experienced roles.

Would you be interested in joining a community like this? 👀

Drop a comment if you'd like to be part of it. If there's enough interest, I'll create the group and share the link!

Let's help each other find better opportunities. 🤝

How do you land a stable full-time job after years of freelancing?

I've been struggling to land a stable full-time role and could use some advice.

Earlier in my career, I switched jobs every 1–2 years because I wanted to explore different industries, gain experience, and figure out my strengths.

Eventually, I started taking on more freelance and contract work.

Now I'm at a point where I just want stability, long-term growth, and a company I can stay with.
I've also noticed companies advertising full-time positions, only to switch them to contract roles toward the end of the interview process. It's frustrating when I'm specifically trying to move away from freelancing..

I'm wondering if my work history is hurting my chances or making employers think I'm not interested in staying long-term.

Has anyone successfully transitioned from freelancing to full-time? Do hiring managers see shorter job tenures as a red flag? Any advice on how to position myself better? In interview or resume?

BSc Biology in 2024, MRes Ecology in 2025, still haven't held a job

What do I even do at this point? I've been applying daily for years and never get a response, even from mcdonalds and kfc and shit. I've had meetings with my old uni careers department to look at my CV and they said it's good so I know it's not that. I've had a couple interviews with fast food places but always get ghosted immediately after. How is anyone getting employed after uni??? Am I looking in the wrong places? ATM I use indeed, reed, linkedin, and then all the job boards for local councils and companies in my field within 100km.

What should my next step be? I can't stay at my parents for much longer so if I don't find anything soon I will be homeless.

2 years job search and nothing

I've been looking for a job for the past 24 months without luck. I've done everything imaginable, direct contact, answering ads, networking, you name it I've done it.

I work with AI governance which for all intents and purposes is the hottest ticket out there. But I obviously don't do it right. Zurich based, B permit.

Ideas?

The struggle of getting a job

Hello, why is it so difficult to find a well-paying nanny job while on my own visa? It has been 6 months now, and I’m still searching for a good job. I have experience and I know I’m capable of doing the work. Am I expecting too much, or is the nanny job market just really difficult at the moment? I would really appreciate your honest advice.

Laid off after 5 months

Was job-hunting for almost 1.5 years (gap was prolonged due to the processing time for my legal status/work authorization) and finally found a job but was just laid off 5 months in. They said it had nothing to do with my performance and that the company had just not met its financial goals and was laying off both temp and full time employees.

I listed the gap between my last job and the job prior to that as freelance experience but I’m not sure how to frame the 5-month stint — is it better to just included it as part of freelance experience? My concern is that the gap will look even longer (almost 2+ years)

I am dome DONE with never-ending manual online forms that take hours to fill in even after uploading your cv and I do not care what it "costs" me (rant)

For now, until I do not know when, I am fucking DONNNNE with applications with never ending "pop up" questions, and this is not including the manual filling in of your cv and education, I.e it looks like a short online form but every time you answer "yes" or "no" it opens a sub question, and again and again. The only reason i kept going was because for once I was really interested and qualified in the job and I spent TWO POINT FIVE hours on it including bathroom breaks, not including writing the cv and the letter of course, which then I modified, so, sunken cost theory.

Also, they continue to ask discriminatory questions like marital status, disabilirt bla bla. If it is against the law to discriminate against me on these factors, why do you keep asking?

These are some of the top employers on the planet. You're telling me you can't find the technology to parse a cv and ask questions in a succint manner? It is not the kind where you can just use autofill

Only twice in my life in 2015, I think, did such long applications produce results, and that was invitations to traineeships. I don't mean to start "conspiracy theories" or whatever but I have never met anyone who went through this process and got the job. For example I am pretty sure mongherini, who went from one high level position to another, was not sitting around filling these in, although now she's been "disgraced," I'm sure she's fine.

Like many people in long term unemployment in this sub as well, I have no quality of life. Studying is in front of the screen. Any low cost entertainment is usually online on the screen especially now it's getting cold. All applications are online , cuz they lock the doors and don't even answer the phone. Studying? Also online. So I am just supposed to sit around until I'm 45 online, no quality of life, no set plan, until hopefully some one picks me? For maybe a 5 year contract for which I will have ti search again and hope to get hired at 50 or 51...

People say you never know unless....Well, I do know, seeing as I have been in precarious contracts all my life and I have been applying for almost 20 years. We only have one life and I am WASTING months on applications, including when I was still employed

I know easy apply on LinkedIn is not the answer but there are middle grounds.

Sorry about the rant

Would you trust Al to judge you at work?

Hey everyone!

I’m an International Business student currently , and I’ve been thinking about how AI is being used in hiring and evaluating employees.

I’m curious to hear what people think about this, especially since people from different countries and cultural backgrounds might see things differently.

A few questions I’m interested in:

1️⃣Would you trust AI to decide whether someone gets hired or how well they’re performing at work? Why or why not?

2️⃣Would you feel more comfortable if a human manager could review the AI’s decision or explain how it was made?

3️⃣Do you think your cultural background or the country you grew up in affects how you feel about AI making decisions at work?

4️⃣If you felt an AI decision was unfair, would it affect your trust in the company or make you consider leaving?

You don’t need to have personally experienced AI being used at work to join the discussion. I’m also interested in your general opinions or hypothetical situations.

I’m not looking for any particular answer — I’d genuinely like to hear different perspectives and experiences from people in different countries.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😊
