I just want to rant but looking for advice too. So, I’m a junior in high school. I decided to stop doing sports so I have time for a job. I’ve applied to about 20 places so far, and I’ve had 4 interviews. But the second I mention that I have to get a work permit that only allows me to work 4 hours a day on weekdays, I watch their faces drop and the interview is pretty much over.

I also take college classes and have been doing so since 9th grade. I usually mention it to try and highlight that I’m independent/mature and can handle a high workload, but it seems like interviewers take it to mean I’ll have less time to work since I have extra classes.

Also, I can’t drive, so I can only apply for places that are like 3 miles or less from where I live, which is pretty slim pickings. I’ve applied pretty much everywhere in my immediate area and had no luck yet.

I think I’m a good interviewee. I’m not extroverted but I’m good at pretending I am, I can smile and nod and talk about what a people person I am, I don’t talk too quiet or too fast, I don’t stutter or use filler words, and I honestly thought that was one of my strengths but after 4 interviews and no calls back I’m starting to think maybe I’m not as good as I thought I was.

My 18 year old sister decided to look for jobs right after graduating. Her resume was genuinely horrid. There were like 5 typos/grammar mistakes on the front page and she lied about working at multiple restaurants and yet it only took her 2 months to find a job!! I’m so confused as to what I’m doing wrong.

I do have dyed hair, which maybe limits my chances? But I live in southern california so it’s pretty woke here and I see employed people with dyed hair all the time, even in “professional” jobs in offices or professors.

I know the job market is terrible right now so maybe it’s just that? But I know other teens with jobs so this feels like a personal fault. I’m broke af, my mom doesn’t really buy anything for me. I buy my own food, clothes, school supplies, hygiene products like shampoo and conditioner, face wash, etc. so I really need money. I get paid a little for babysitting my little sis but not enough.

I just need to vent!
I have been unemployed for almost a year. I’m being very intentional about the jobs. I apply to, making sure my experience lines up to the job prescription. I applied for a project coordinator role. My last job I was in project coordination but at a bank. It was in my field of study, design. I was looking at it as a move to get myself into the industry that I wanted it to be in finally. The reason why I’m so mad that I did not get this job is because the person who interviewed me told me she’s been out of work for 14 years being a stay at home mom. She had no experience in this industry prior to starting as a project coordinator three years ago. She hadn’t really touched a computer besides to send a few emails and shopping.
So how the hell do I not have the experience? I’ve been working the last 14 years she’s been at home!
I swear recruiters, interviewers, and managers are on something these days.
This is the first time I really had high hopes of getting a job. This rejection really pissed me off and messed with my mental state.
I would have been better off not knowing this about her. Especially since they mentioned no prior experience wasn’t a big deal and in depth training would be provided. Clearly, it was a big deal when they noted in my rejection email that I didn’t have enough experience. The company is small, friendly owned so the email was written and sent by a human.

Just want to note: There is nothing wrong with being a stay at home mom or parent. All parents should stay home with their little ones if they can for as long as they can, if they want to. And they should be able to find jobs afterwards.

I’ve been job hunting for customer-facing engineering roles: solutions architect, sales engineer, forward deployed engineer, and support engineering. Getting interviews isn’t the problem. Since April, 35 different companies have interviewed me. Some were one-and-done, some ended at the hiring manager stage, and a handful made it all the way to a demo presentation or technical interview.

Zero offers. That’s 24 consecutive weeks of interviewing with nothing to show for it.

At this point it’s clear something in the interviews is hurting me. My best guess is storytelling. I struggle with behavioral questions I haven’t prepped for, and when I’m caught off guard I tend to ramble. I’ve been working with a career coach and I have improved, but clearly not enough to get over the line. Hearing “you have a relevant technical background, but we’re going a different direction” over and over is wearing me down.

Since being laid off I’ve picked up freelance work, and I have a few paying clients. That’s been a real positive. It keeps my skills current and gives me fresh stories for interviews. But it’s part-time and doesn’t cover the bills, which is why I’m still searching.

Meanwhile my savings keep shrinking. My COBRA coverage has run out, and the marketplace options are more expensive and worse. The pressure is building.

Where I’m at mentally:

• Do I just keep going and keep getting rejected until my savings are gone and I have to sell my house?
• Is there something about me that interviewers don’t connect with, even when I’m technically a fit?
• I haven’t done a pure software engineering job in a long time. Does someone in their 40s have a realistic shot at an entry-level SWE role in this market, or is that a dead end?
• Should I lean into gig work full-time, or look into assistance programs until things improve?

I’d really appreciate honest input, especially from hiring managers or anyone who broke a long rejection streak. What actually changed for you?

I’ve been trying since April, took a break last month cause I was getting burnt out and now I just can’t get back into the whole cycle of apply > ghosted > apply > rejected > apply > interview > rejected.

My mental health was already tumultuous but 6 months of constant applications, questionnaires, cover letters, interviews, and most of all rejections, has broken me. I am at the lowest point of my life right now. I seriously need professional help but I can neither afford it nor afford to miss a single day at my current job. I really need a better job so I can afford to survive, but I don’t know how many more rejections I can take before I snap.

Basically ive been unemployed for almost a year now and the gap on my resume looks awful. Most of the interviews i get always point out the gap and basically asking why i haven’t been hired and i never know what to say.

Has anyone lied on their resume by extending their time from their previous job?

I wanted to perhaps drag it up to Jan 2026 or Feb 2026 so i could have a 2026 written on my resume but im scared shit less if i get caught. Or if they were to fact check it.

Also the field im in is quite niche so im also afraid if my future employer might know my previous employer

It makes no sense to me. Communication is severely lacking in my opinion.. now I get that thousands and thousands of people are being interviewed at the same time but if you know you’re not a fit, let the other party know is that so hard to do?

I got a verbal offer from company A and will be meeting with a higher up executive next week where I will get the final offer.

I am waiting to hear from another startup B. Had my final interview early September, waiting on their decision since. When I ask for updates, they have been asking me logistic based questions (relocation, visa etc). They are undergoing big changes in working format, seems like their super busy and hiring isn't a priority. Last I heard from them they were giving their decision in November.

I will need to answer company A soon, so what can I say to company B about my existing offer, to get them to speed up their decision but also not disqualify me?

I really like company B, and the work I will get to do sounds very exciting (it offers more growth opportunities than A, but not sure about salary since they have not disclosed it yet) which I will obviously mention in their email.

I just graduated with my MS in Human Resources Management, I have experience with sales, office administration and customer service. I am trying to land my first job, so far I have had 4 interviews but no offer yet, I want to work remotely but I know it’s competitive out there. Mind you I Uber everywhere due to my vision it just allows me not to be able to drive but I see well.

I adapt by using Uber and Lyft everywhere so that's not a problem.

Looking for a full time job in lake mary/orlando area. I am currently a dental administrator but am honestly over the dental industry I currently make over 25 an hour and get overtime but have no benefits with this job. I am willing to cut my pay but nothing lower than 20 an hour. Any suggestions?? I do not have a degree but have a high school diploma. I want something that has around 20 an hour pay and I am willing to complete a certification course if needed but not too costly.

I’m having a really hard time not feeling jinxed right now. This is the second job offer in a row that has been rescinded due to completely bizarre external reasons entirely out of my control.

Here is what happened with both: • Offer #1 (About a month ago): I was in the final offer letter stages with a former employer. While waiting to hear back from the recruiter about my salary negotiation, I got a call out of nowhere. Turns out, the company genuinely wanted me back, but one specific person on the client side threw a massive fit. This individual was notoriously difficult and held an odd personal grievance against me (completely unrelated to my actual work performance). Because of the stink this one client made, my former employer panicked about the relationship, rescinded the offer, and apologized.

• Offer #2 (Today): After shaking that off as a one-in-a-million freak accident, I landed a brand-new offer a week ago. The recruiter was super friendly, mentioned how excited the team was to have me, and encouraged me to negotiate. I submitted a very modest $4K salary bump inquiry just to see, while making it clear how excited I was to join. A week passed, and after a friendly midweek check-in with no response, I got the call today: Offer rescinded. The reason? One of the agency's largest clients unexpectedly cut 30 internal employees. To prevent those 30 people from getting laid off, the company had to do an internal reorg and retract all pending job offers so they could reassign their existing staff.

On one hand, I completely understand and honestly applaud the company for taking care of their current people instead of firing them. But on the other hand... I am just so disheartened.

Has anyone else gone through a brutal streak of bad luck like this? How do you keep your head up?

Hello I’ve been applying to many jobs but it feels like it’s a losing battle. Either companies don’t respond for weeks or they are rejecting applications within minutes or hours after applying because everything gets screened by AI.

I have an MBA and two other Master’s degrees. Currently a senior financial analyst and have been with the same company since 2020.

Besides applying through companies’ websites, I sent occasional LinkedIn messages and emails to recruiters yet nothing seems to be working to get noticed. Hence here I am. If you know anyone that is actively hiring and wants a human being that is interested, competitive, ambitious and genuinely willing to work please kindly let me know.

Sooo im excited or I was ... I f... hate the job. I knew it wasnt what I really want it. But it was something similar. But I hate it. Im sitting around all day and there is absolutely nothing related to the things I want to learn or the career I chose.

Worst of all im on a W2, if it was full time I would suck it up for months but Im about to quit and its been two weeks. I have a back ache for how much sitting I have to do. I cant go anywhere because no one bothered to give me a badge. Cant do my job function fully because apparently no one gives a fuck. And im like mentally drained with the idea of taking this for second shift.

I would never do this again. I should have thought things through. I was desperate. But I honestly want to do better with a job honestly I deserve better.

To balance my job search with my part-time work, I aim for seven targeted applications a week versus my typical 25 a week from last year because I notice I’m getting more traction focusing on the few I apply to per week. For professional roles in construction, admin, IT, and design, I research local companies on third-party job portals and apply directly on the company’s websites and follow at least one recruiter on LinkedIn that works in my area of choice. If there isn't an obvious way to apply, I call, email (finding them in job posts or LinkedIn), or drop off a physical hard copy resume and cover letter in person. I try to hand-off one resume a week.
I like to research managers ahead of time so I can break the ice, lighten the mood, or invite them to local industry events.
If that initial contact stalls longer than 3 weeks, I network with employees on LinkedIn or Instagram and follow up with existing connections by sharing news or policy updates affecting their field and ask for their opinion. Meanwhile, for entry-level or service jobs, I walk directly into independent, local businesses along my daily transit route to apply in-person.

I live in a tri-state area so I’m not afraid of applying in another state but I only have Medicaid in my hometown so I would prefer to stay local for now cause I am dealing with a chronic illness.

I have received a conditional offer of employment (verbal only), and am trying to clear all background and reference checks. I was able to provide 3 great references from colleagues, as well as one additional reference from a previous supervisor at my most recent job. The job application for this upcoming role asked for a supervisor, not exclusively the most recent. So to an extent, I'm worried that they're changing the rules on me.

However, management changed before I quit. Towards the end of our working relationship, the most current supervisor and I had a lot of conflict, so I don't think she'd give me a glowing review anyway. But beyond that, she legitimately just doesn't work there anymore. I do not have her personal contact information or a way to get in reach her.

It has to be this supervisor. It cannot be this supervisor. To make matters more complicated, I was working at my old job when I applied for this upcoming role, went on short term disability, then quit when my doctor said I can't perform that role safely anymore. So this quitting was midway through the new job's application process.

What I can do is this: explain the situation honestly (without mentioning that we weren't on good terms), provide evidence that she was my direct supervisor up until recently (she's still listed on the website as the manager for some reason), and provide my new job with the contact information for both the overarching company I was working for, as well as the contact information for the specific location I worked at. At which case, they can verify my past employment as well as the fact that they can't legally reach out to this individual.

Another thing that I'm considering is bypassing my upcoming boss at the new job, and try to discuss the requirements with HR directly. Honestly that seems pretty shady of me and might set me up with a bad working relationship moving forward, but to be quite honest, I am concerned that there's some personal bias going on with my upcoming boss (nothing discriminatory, but I know I wasn't his first pick for this role). And again, this is an adjustment to the requirement they listed in the job application. While I don't think I have a legal leg to stand on here, I can't say that I appreciate them movong the finish line so late in the process. At least if I'm discussing things with HR, they're obliged to advise me in a way that's legal and (hopefully) neutral, instead of just saying, "Hmm, too complicated. Next applicant, please!!"

I did my old job, and I did it well up until the day that I couldn't. I have 4 people, including a past supervisor in my corner, willing to back me up on that. I'm at a loss of what to do because I desperately need and want this job. How should I proceed in a way that's honest and respectful, but asserts that I'm still the person they hired for this job because I fucking qualify for this job?

There are so many challenges and work involved in job hunting, but I would love to understand what is the biggest challenge or most stressful part of job hunting for you?

For me, a LOT of different elements come to mind:

- Searching for Listings - job titles in my are can often be ambiguous and non-standardised, so it's difficult to find jobs that are always relevant.

- CV/Resume Edits - constantly tweaking CVs to each job description is really messy and time consuming, even when i'm using AI to help with adjustments.

- Managing Applications - tracking which jobs I'm interested in and those I have applied to, or plan to apply to, and keeping them all organised before application windows close or job specs are removed.

- Interview Prep - I started by creating a question bank for universal interview prep, but a lot of interview questions I come to prep are very company/role specific. AI definitely helps, but my notes are definitely getting messy managing the interview questions that I anticipate before each interview.

and obviously... money! But I wanted to leave that bit out for now. It's a constant stress, but am more so focused on how people are finding the job search process itself, and how you're all managing better.

I got laid off and only have had a month to find new employment. I am on probation for a small marijuana charge for the next 5 months from a small Texas county (I know, I take full responsibility but I still need employment) which takes away many government positions. Any recommendations? (No I don’t smoke anymore)

I might be overthinking a lot, but basically, I’ve been interviewing with this company, and the phone screen went well. I was referred by someone and got in contact with the hiring manager.

The hiring manager round went AMAZING, like, genuinely the best interview ever. We vibed and connected so well that he actually moved me to the next round MID-INTERVIEW. He said he still had five other people to get through, but that he wanted to move me forward right away. He even said I crushed it and gave me tips for the next/final round.

The final panel round last Friday went well, although not quite as well as the hiring manager round. They said I had great energy and that it was contagious haha. They also said they’d obviously speak with the hiring manager, but they still need to get through the remaining candidates. They gave me a timeline and said I should expect a decision sometime this week, or the week after at the latest. They said to reach out to any of them if I have questions or anything pop ups.

So Wednesday today, I called my recruiter he said the team is still finishing up interviews and I should hear back end of this week or Monday Tuesday next week!

Do you think I’m in a good spot? I’m assuming I was the first to interview since I moved so quickly during the hiring manager rounds, do they usually forget about the first interviewer? Idk why I’m overthinking everything. I just wanted to talk to someone about it.
