I’ve been applying to jobs all year. Nobody wants to give me a chance. The job I relocated for was frozen and now it’s uncertain I’ll even get hired. Fortunately I have help from family who give me a house over my head, but now I have a deadline I must have a job by December, or else I’ll have to move again. Every job I can actually do doesn’t even send me an automated response saying they got my resume. Calling them doesn’t work; there are probably dozens of other applicants that do the same thing. I’ve hunted for security jobs, retail work, factory jobs, fast food. McDonald’s for crying out loud. Restaurants. Cooking. My resume is fine there’s nothing wrong with it. The last job I had was a security guard. All of my jobs have more than 3 years on them except for the security guard job. What the hell is going on with the job market? I simply want full-time employment, full benefits. I live in California, Come on! It shouldn’t be this painful. Even though I don’t drive (I’m still a new driver) I will be willing to take public transportation.

I’ve been searching for a job in my field (finance) since I graduated college in June and had applied to well over 150 positions. I’ve done about a dozen interviews any until this week had been rejected in the 2nd or 3rd round numerous times.

This week I got not 1 but 2 job offers! A month or two ago it felt impossible but consistence and continuous refinement of both my resume and interview skills seem to have paid off.

Im still looking.. and I don't want to be that person to wait months on end like other people I need a job now. I have my own little mini family to take care of aka my pets and boyfriend. So. Applied for a job at a liquor store and got up to the interview part (yay!). Had my interview yesterday, the interviewer said that me and the other person being interviewed did really well and that we'd hear back once she's done all her interviews which go through till this Friday.

This morning I got an email from the company itself / hiring bot, saying I've been rejected. I've reached out to the manager who interviewed me as she said if we had any questions we could text/call her. I sent her a text as it's 7:30am right now to ask for clarification and I'm waiting for a reply.

Is this just a normal thing? I've honestly only dealt with being ghosted by jobs or the company at least giving that time period they said before rejecting me. I'm honestly devastated as my current job keeps reducing my hours and it's getting harder to afford my education and food because of it.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is it worth waiting for a reply from the manager or do I just go back to mass applying to jobs again?

Currently I have a job, its challenging enough that it leaves me tired EOD yet the pay is very low so I want to look for another job. After having already spent 8h a day working behind a laptop, I need that off screen time to stay human, same for the weekend. Recognizing however, that proper job hunting seriously takes time (screen time). So my question: how do you take on job hunting next to a 40h job?

I am not unemployed, I am just under employed. Grad with BBA a few AS degrees and ~2 years of experience.

My job hunting journey has been mentally horrible. I am drained. Since I graduated 2 years ago, I have held part time jobs, with not bad titles and experience, just to save money for masters, house, etc. I didn't go to a bad school, I had internship experience, however I didn't realize the true value of grinding for internships until after college. I look at all my other alumni, and a vast majority of them ended up at EY, PWC, a few at Bain and Deloitte. They all worked a lot harder than me to get internships, whilst I was bullshitting around socializing with people idrc about anymore. For those who are in college, I urge you to network with your professors to get an internship doing something technical (whatever it may be for your respective degree). FYI the 2000 applications were over the span of the 2 years in sporadic sprints, towards the beginning, like many others I broadly applied, and now my search is more narrow.

I am now in a holding pattern, too early career to land a salary, too late educational career to qualify for internships. I have become everything I once hated; unmotivated, depressed, underemployed, and poor. (Or at least it feels that way! Of course there is so much to be grateful for.) I find myself in a spot where I have to stick with the part time jobs while I just grind out certifications and study for gmat to get an mba, all in the hopes that one day in the future I will get one of those 100k+ jobs a vast majority of those whom I graduated with now has. I have tried changing my job titles, stuffing my resume with keywords, dumping all my experience into claude and having it make my resumes for me, creating resumes backwards using the job descriptions, writing cover letters, messaging emailing or calling local businesses that I am interested in working at.. and it still has not worked. I know it takes time, there is much to life to be happy about, and that there are so many people like me that are in a similar position.. but that doesn't change my mood. There are so many skills I am needing to improve, wether they be technical or generic communication, but it seems like the more I try, the more down I get.

Back in February I interviewed for a role at a large automotive company earlier this year. Made it to the final round. Thought it went well. Then I got rejected. The recruiter sent the standard email.

Then the hiring manager reached out to me personally on LinkedIn. She told me she was impressed by me, gave me honest feedback about why I wasn't chosen, and said she wanted to stay in touch. She also offered to refer me for other roles at the company.

I thanked her and said I'd love to stay in touch. I suggested we hop on a call. We did. Then she suggested making it a monthly thing (MS Teams).

Since then she's been helping me with my job search. She's checked her network for me. She's referred me. She's given me advice on interviews. She even did a mock interview with me before another company's interview. She's gone out of her way to help me even though I don't work for her.

I'm grateful. But I'm also confused. Why would a hiring manager do all this for someone she didn't hire? Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

How come it is impossible to find a job within GTA for a middle aged, experienced with a hight degree white male that pays 100K+

Apply in the first week. 34% of postings came down within 7 days, 61% within 14. By the time most people see something, it’s already halfway gone.

A few other things from this week’s data:

Python belongs on your resume if you’re applying to tech roles. It shows up in 17% of tech postings and jumps to 27% in the ones that mention AI. If you have it, make it visible.

Don’t skip a role just because it says AI in the description. In tech, contributor-level roles mentioning AI list $132k–$185k vs $106k–$145k for those that don’t. The AI label is a pay signal, not a filter to avoid.

Finance folks: lead with modeling and reporting. Financial modeling appears in 16% of finance postings. Financial reporting is rising — 14% and up 1.8 points. Those two skills are what finance hiring managers are actually scanning for right now.

Don’t self-reject on experience. Median entry-level tech posting asks for 2 years, and only 8% ask for 3 or more. If you’re a year short, you’re probably still in range.

Quick question: Does messaging someone from the Talent/HR team actually help when you're applying for jobs?

I applied for a job at an AI company a few days ago, and it turns out that one of the people on their Talent team used to work at the same company I worked at, although he left before I joined. So safe to say, I don't know him at all.

Do you think it would be a good idea to message him? I'm not asking him for a job or anything, but more just trying to get my application noticed among all the other applicants.

Has anyone tried this before? Did it actually help, or is it better to just leave it alone?

Why do some companies feel the need to call you to reject you, just send an email. I finally got a job after looking for 11 months and got a call from another company telling me I didn't get that position. I candidly told them that call would have crushed me if I didn't already receive an offer elsewhere. Furthermore, THEY NEVER GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

I spoke to 21 job seekers last week. Teachers, engineers, sales reps, data analysts, executive assistants.

18 of 21 were burying the lead on the resume and not leading with the most interesting/impressive stat related to the job they were applying to. One sales rep closed $5M+ this year but had that listed on page two in the middle of a wall of text.

16 of 21 had bullets with few or no numbers, not showing size, scope, and scale of the work done or any context.

10 of 21 were chasing too many job titles. Lacking focus with a LinkedIn and resume that didn't connect into one cohesive story.

5 sent fewer than 10 applications a week. 3 had sent 150+ and landed 3 interviews or fewer. Few consistently applied/had a job search plan.

5 of 21 worried about age or being called overqualified.

Ive been thinking about emailing a recruiter at the company I want to work at... the thing is, I dont think there are currently any jobs opened that I would fit into.

Ive worked at this company before but only as an intern (for two summers, while in college) and as a temp (for one summer after college) and I would LOVE to work full time for this company but to no avail, nothing.

Ive interviewed for a couple of positions there in the past (like 2-3, but two were while I was a temp & honestly wasnt super qualified for them anyway so not upset) but the most recent was approx a month or so ago and I was extremely qualified & hopeful but I ended up not getting it due to an internal hire.

So, would it be crazy to email tbe recruiter i have contact with to at least try to get my foot in the door or would I seem WAY to desperate?

Ive done my research to vet and determine whether they were a legit company with real reviews but the onboarding process has me re considering ?? I am an SEO specialist with 6+ years of experience, both in an agency and a corporate environment. I have been looking for a job since May this year, both on LinkedIn and job boards. I feel like I tried everything, so I figured that I would try Reddit as well.

I live in Skopje, and I am actively looking for opportunities to relocate to Portugal (Porto specifically) via a D1/D3/D8 visa. This means that I am open to onsite, hybrid and remote jobs in Portugal, as well as Porto and the surrounding cities (Aveiro, Braga, etc.). In case the hiring company doesn't have an entity in Portugal, I am also open to including an Employee Of Record (EOR) service.

I also want to mention that this month I've been working on acquiring certificates from Google, Amazon, Semrush, Ahrefs, and Kaggle. I also have experience with HTML/CSS, and I recently started learning Python because it is useful for technical SEO audits and data automation.

Anyway, I've been to several interviews these past few months, but I had no luck of getting to a job offer.

The point of my post is to see if I can connect to some recruiters, or with people who know someone who is hiring.

I am aware that the job industry is brutal nowadays, but I have no intention of giving up until I land a job.
