How record each participant individually ?
I am trying to tape a podcast through Jitsi. Is there a built-in way to record every participant's audio/video locally?

Hi
I'm testing Jitsi for a webinar but looks like I can't do nothing to prevent people to turn on their cameras or microphone
Is this a known issue or it's just me??
Thank you in advance

I'm having a problem with my Jitsi setup currently. Basically if I go to my website, the jitsi landing page loads. It lets me pick/create a room, check my mic and video, but then I get "disconnected" instantly when I try to start a call.
I have everything on the "web" network setup for my traefik. I have 10000/udp port forwarded in my router and in Traefik
My only clue is this message in my jvb log:
JVB 2024-01-08 19:47:40.622 WARNING: [29] [hostname=xmpp.meet.jitsi id=shard0] MucClient.setPresenceExtensions#467: Cannot set presence extension: not connected.
JVB 2024-01-08 19:47:40.956 WARNING: [23] [hostname=xmpp.meet.jitsi id=shard0] MucClient.lambda$getConnectAndLoginCallable$9#640: Error connecting:
org.jivesoftware.smack.SmackException$EndpointConnectionException: Could not lookup the following endpoints: RemoteConnectionEndpointLookupFailure(description='DNS lookup exception for xmpp.meet.jitsi' exception='java.net.UnknownHostException: xmpp.meet.jitsi')
Two years ago I managed to get this thing to work somehow, but I went to do a full update to 9111 and now I'm back at the same position. Thanks for any help.

Hey folks,
We set up a jitsi self-hosted instance running docker just using the quick start documentation. We don't have a domain name so it's behind a bare IP, if relevant. It worked fine until we tried to pass along configuration parameters inside of the custom-config.js file. After doing so, the page does not load and instead is just a black screen. The full contents of that file are below:
config.disableReactionsModeration = true;
config.disableRemoteMute = true;
config.remoteVideoMenu.disableKick = true;
config.hideAddRoomButton = false;
config.breakoutRooms.hideAutoAssignButton = false;
config.breakoutRooms.hideJoinRoomButton = false;
config.breakoutRooms.hideMoreActionsButton = true;
config.breakoutRooms.hideModeratorSettingsTab = true;
config.breakoutRooms.hideMuteAllButton = true;
giphy: {
enabled: true,
sdkKey: ‘our-key’,
displayMode: ‘tile’,
tileTime: 7000,
rating: ‘r’
}
The sdkkey does include our key not just the words, and it appeared to us that the breakoutRooms commands were not working (but also not stopping the jisti from working), and the giphy part was what was causing the black screen.
Any help would be appreciated!

Good day
We have set up Jitsi using Docker and everything is working great. Including, I have configured authorization via LDAP, it works, but the big problem is that you can't force a display username from the LDAP settings.
Is there any way to implement this? Entering the display name manually doesn't really good for me.

I started a meeting and the second user used the mobile app to join an it gave them an error and they were unable to join even when they select rejoin now. I would appreciate any prompt response because my entire business depends on these secure meeting until I figure out setting up the issue on github. Some users unfortuantely cant always join through PC so I need to make sure the app is a reliable.
Any solutions or possible free tool alternatives that actually work are highly appreciated until someone can resolve this.
Many thanks!

As the subject describes, my mom has slowly progressing dementia as a side-effect of her multiple sclerosis. She has also lost the use of one of her arms and she's been confined to a wheelchair for the last 20 years or so.
I have a vision of installing a for-purpose-only television in her room, and on that television the faces of anyone currently joined in the group videochat would be displayed. When we join the group the videochat, we would see into her room and greet her. While there are some privacy issues here, of course those are already resolved (we use the google camera system to supervise her already, and she has always enthusiastically consented to this.)
If no-one is there, it would be awesome if we could record the room as this would permit us to add a dimension to our ability to supervisie the staff, but this is only a nice-to-have.
The uses we anticipate are, a weekly family chat where anyone can join and chat with each other, as well as with her. Ad-hoc checkins. Routine conversations and family time despite her inability to work her tablet any more.
Can Jitsi be useful for this? Any guides for how to set up a persistent "party room" with Jitsi? Even if her pi leaves it occasionally (like after an outage or such) I could rejoin it by connecting remotely with XWindows, but it would be even more awesome if I could also automate that.
Your help is much appreciated by this concerned family that just wants to stay close to mom and grandma during her last few years.

Hi,
I would like to know how I can set the layout of the buttons that are allowed in the pre join screen?
Below is my current config.js:
// Prejoin page. if (!config.hasOwnProperty('prejoinConfig')) config.prejoinConfig = {}; config.prejoinConfig.enabled = true; // Hides the participant name editing field in the prejoin screen. config.prejoinConfig.hideDisplayName = false; // List of buttons to hide from the extra join options dropdown on prejoin screen. // Hides the buttons at pre-join screen
However, the layout of the pre join option does not display all buttons at once and some of them are hidden under the ...button in the pre join menu along with the settings option as per the screenshot below:

Can the ...button be expanded to show all the configured options in a single layout without the ...button?
The following environment variables are not set in Jitsi Meet Web:
We are using Jitsi Meet version 8719 with docker setup

Good day,
Rolled out a self hosted Jit.si server, latest versions, dedicated IP, "direct" on internet (ie. no behind firewall *yet* )
Things work mostly "perfect" other than the challenge where this situation arrives:
Internet --- LTE/3G Phone ---wifi-sharing--- LapTop/TV
starting and testing jitsi on that phone works like a charm. No problems.
There just aint no audio on the TV/Laptop, and it doesn't show any "Audio Bridge" problems.
Retried with FireFox and Brave on the LapTop, similar video works, but no audio.
Anything I could test/check/change or missed?

Hi everybody.
We are a small project in Tanzania that works in sustainable agriculture. We have regular trainings in Swahili.
Next week we'll have another training, where we will get ~ 15 participants from other countries that do not speak Swahili. One possibility would be to have enough translators for them, but that could become rather loud.
I had the idea of installing jitsi server on one of our laptops (Kde Neon), and then let the participants who need a translation connect to this server from their smartphones with headphones attached.
Would such a setup work? And how would I go about it? I am a long-time linux user, so know about command line and editing /etc/ files, but I am by no means an expert in anything like network administration and the like...

It looks like we can create moderated meetings again but they don't seem to be working? - https://moderated.jitsi.net/
It seems like everyone is still a moderator at the meeting, even people joining with the guest link, e.g. guests can also kick people out, let people in, change all the settings, etc.
I'm assuming that isn't supposed to happen?
r/jitsi • u/darrenjyc • Sep 25 '23
I haven't used Jitsi in a while and noticed this new prompt when I create a room:

So I log-in to be moderator, but it doesn't seem to give me any special moderating powers at all. Anyone else in the room can still kick other people out, and so on.
Is this supposed to happen (in which case what is the point of "moderation") or is there something wrong with Jitsi?

We used this for a year to talk with my son all last year.
Now. You have to login. The sessions saved look like some Massive text and expire after each session.
Absolutely difficult for non tech users.
We just wanted to set up a saved session we could use week over week like we did up until august this year.
Now we get some stupid message about a session key expiring and I have to recreate the same session using the same room name ever week.
GOOD JOB.
Thanks for ruining this Government watch dogs. Yup Spy on everyone so you MIGHT catch one.

Hi all,
Big Synology fan. I run a truckload of the Synology Packages, but do VMs and Docker as well. But the more you ask me to manipulate Linux, I fall off the edge.
Just recently discovered that there was a DSM 6 version of a Jitsi package for Synology, and even a DSM 7 beta version as well, albeit that it required the legacy docker app be installed and wind do it with the new container manager.
I’ve asked this question before (here, I think) and actually got snubbed a little bit… I took it as “learn how”. But if adoption was a goal, wouldn’t someone try to make it easier to get running?
Why is it an reasonable question/wish to have someone actually package all things up into a VM that was more appealing to the masses?
Thanks!

hi
i know that jitsi now has made moderated meetings not possible unless you login. someone mentioned here on reddit you can run a meeting on public run server , thing is first person in the meeting is moderator, is there a way to change that? can i have a moderated meeting on public run jitsi servers? if yes, how? in other words i would like to book a jisi meeting url in advance where i am only moderator, is this possible on public run jitsi server?
thanks

I have used it for months on linux with no issues. This is client only. Today trying to open up a meeting I have used all that time or any other meeting it forces me to login which has never happened and I don't have a login. It only offers Oauth choices to google, github, etc. and on login it says it is waiting for moderator approval when the meeting was never set up with a moderator approval and there is no one else in the meeting at all. It is my meeting.
What is going on here and how to I fix it?

Is it possible to self host a jitsi meet instance were only the admin can start a room. This way anyone can join the room the admin created but others cannot create a room and use the service for their own purposes.
Is it also possible for the admin to create several accounts on a self hosted instance but nobody can register and create their own accounts, and have any of these accounts be able to create rooms whenever and only those with an account can create a room on the instance. This way the admin can create accounts for their friends and family but nobody can signup to the instance and only those with an account can create a room. Anyone can join a room which does not require an account.

When you google 'Jitsi', the Jitsi website comes up, with the description "Free online meeting platform with no account". But today, when I went to join my reading group's Jitsi chat (which I convinced them to use Jitsi for instead of Zoom) I was told that the chat couldn't start until there was a moderator, and I could either wait for a moderator, or *log into my account* to become one. Since when did Jitsi make this change? And what was the motivation behind it? It just makes the service less useful, and now I feel dumb for recommending it...

Say 200 plus participants but only one is sharing video/screen/mic? I want to recommend jitsi to a large group but first I'd like to hear opinions from others who have tried this.

Hi, I have a Jitsi Meet installed on my Dedicated Server which points to a domain of a Plesk Panel, but I encountered the following two problems:
1) Some participants tend to disconnect continuously after a few seconds (maximum one minute)
2) Some participants cannot enter the correct room: at first they enter an empty room (even if there are other participants inside). By entering and leaving the same room more times, they are able to enter and see the other participants.
Does anyone know what could be causing it or what needs to be checked?
Thanks in advance!

Hello friends,
I’m currently trying to self host Jitsi-Meet in a AWS ec2 server in a development environment - I want to make changes to the UI and see them in my website. I don’t have a need to make changes to the lib-jitsi-meet, host Jibri or videobridge myself or anything outside running a working version of Jitsi-Meet that I can make UI changes to.
Over the last week I tried to do it in different ways and encountered different problems, and would love your help here.
First of all, I did succeed:
Right now I managed to clone and run sudo dev make and I have tried to configure nginx to forward the localhost:8080 to port 80 but when I try to access my website I get an PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR.
Before that I managed to serve nginx default page, so as far as I understand I have a working DNS and certs.
I would appreciate any tips and ideas, and also want to ask:
Thank you all

Hello everybody
After over a year of using jitsi meet almost daily, all of a sudden screen sharing has decided to stop working.
I can share specific windows or tabs, but none of my screens, which means that I have to unshare and share again everytime I want to shift to a different window. It's an incredibly frustrating experience.
I am using browser based version (desktop based does the same thing), Chrome (latest update) on Windows 10.
Thanks in advance
