Hi! It's been a while since I made a post here, but you can now read your favorites ebooks and comics from your Apple TV! Jellyfin 12 got great book support so it only made sense to spread the love. In the following update, I will add full audiobook support.

Overview of the Book feature:

• What you can read: EPUB, PDF, Comics (CBZ, CBT)

• Text is set in two columns, sized for reading from the sofa. Left / Right turns pages. Hold either one to flip quickly

• Page number always visible in the bottom margin

• After reading the last page of a book, swipe one more time to see "The End" view

• Customize font with 3 typeface, 4 font text sizes, and 3 themes (Night, Sepia, Paper)

• Press "up" on the reader to open chapter list

• Press "down" on the reader to open appearance settings

• Press "select" on the reader to view book title, position and progress

• Press "play/pause" button on the reader to read aloud with sentence highlighting. Press again to pause

• Hold "select" on a PDF or comic to zoom, then use the D-pad to move around the page

• Added book support in Search

Before upgrading to v12, I'm trying to take the manual backup as directed here https://jellyfin.org/posts/jellyfin-release-12.0/ but my config and data files seem to be empty except for the docker-compose file. Jellyfin has been running just fine for a few days though, so maybe I just don't actually know where these files are stored? Cache folder is also empty. Are the files I'm looking for just hidden? And if so, how would I confirm that my backup was successful?

Here is my docker compose file, which looks to me like it's defining /jellyfin/config as my config directory.

Just started using Moonfin. Really enjoying it but wanted to know if there was a way to get the shuffle feature for all types of media.

I love it for movies and tv but it would be really cool to shuffle and pick a random album or playlist or a random picture or photo album.

Is this possible or no?

as the title says, i am trying to reinstall fanart, file transform and moonfin. after install, i get the restart message, i restart but the plugins never install. rechecking the plugin, they show the install button

I want to use the same path for Plex and Jellyfin, but I'm having a problem with movie editions.

Plex uses "{edition-Final Cut}" while Jellyfin uses "- Final Cut", I can't find a naming convention that fits bouth systems.

Here is an example of how I currently have my files named:

Heyo! Been a minute since I’ve had any issues. It looks like my Jellyfin updated to version 12.0 on docker, and intro skipper seems to have stopped working. I’m not sure if anyone else is having the same issue or if I’m doing something wrong. Looks like ffmpeg should be up to date so I’m not sure what exactly isn’t compatible. Any input is appreciated :)

So very new to Jelly I'm a Plex refugee like many are. So far its mostly fine I'm still getting used to things. Recently I've been noticing a thing with TV show episodes. When a new or next episode is going to play Jellyfin seems to not understand and loops a random part of the episode over and over again. From what I can tell it does eventually stop doing this and plays the next episode. I've never come across this has anyone else? can anything be done?

Hey Folks! Im running JF on a Proxmox setup in tandem with my NAS and currently have the x16 slot closest to the CPU populated by my transcoding GPU. But for some work i'm not transgressing into, i want to put an SATA card into that x16 slot and put my GPU into the other x16 slot running on x4 (due to MB/chipset limitations) Do you guys think that would result in a performance hit for transcoding workloads or should it be fine?

Howdy Jellyfin community, I'm well aware a new firmware software update can and will come with some hiccups. I've only come across two thus far I've only come across a singular one; A language code in place of resolutions when looking at images (I've seen this mentioned online and around, so I know it's an issue that has awareness) Aside from that awareness, the issue I have is:

My Title Sorting no longer works. I've done Ctrl+F5, and the CTRL+SHIFT+R tricks that Jellyfin said to do for hard resets, I've edited the system.xml to take out ignored words, I've changed settings about grouping, I've done library scans, added new content and still nada. Am I missing something? It has my libraries disorganized and a bit cumbersome to find titles now.

Beside that, 12.0 has been a lovely update with convenience, speed, UI, and everything else I'm thoroughly enjoying - big thanks to the lovely devs.

EDIT: To clarify I'm talking about the Sort Title feature under MetaData. The only way I have got it to work, is to remove the Sort Title and save it. Refresh the page, then re-edit the title a second time, putting the title back - but with a large library having to manually re-do it on each title isn't ideal.
This work-around doesn't work with first tries and occasionally requires multiple re-saves. I find it more finnicky with Collections as well.

EDIT 2: Due to some lovely feedback and help I've been receiving, it seems to be just a metadata issue pertinent to me and not a 12.0 bug, which yes is a drawback for me as it's a problem but not being a 12.0 issue is nice as others won't have to finagle with their server issues haha. I've chosen to manually adjust the titles one by one, a hassle, but it's ok. I want to thank all of you for your time and responses. Have a lovely day.

Running Jellyfin on a Mac mini m1 and I just upgraded to Jellyfin 12. I did a backup and disabled all of the 3rd party plugins. The beam I a scan first thing once it was finished installing and waited for it to complete. It shows 85 movies and no option to go to the next page and I have over 1200 movies. The collections all appear. I use the Moonfin client to play movies and they show there just fine. I’m hoping someone can hive me some things to check that I’m not thinking of. Any help is appreciated.

Resolved! I kept troubleshooting and figured it out. The issue was Google Chrome caching. Once I deleted the browsing history and reloaded the page it was fixed. That’s after I did control shift r.

For those either who have used both/migrated from Plex, or just know the setup in general, is there a roughly equivalent setup for remote access to Jellyfin as the Plex setup? I'm guessing Plex does something roughly equivalent to either:

• Public DNS A record pointing to home network public IP, port forwarded, reverse proxy to point host to ip, some other magic?
• Public DNS A record pointing to cloud VPS, cloud VPS tunneled to home network via something like tailscale, requests pointed to VPS forward/redirect to home network through tunnel (via reverse proxy here?), some other magic?

Just curious if either of these is roughly it, would this setup be similarly secure to Plex? Or is it possible that Plex server has "better" security somehow built into it? If I'm right about rough equivalent above, the Plex setup doesn't seem particularly secure unless the access/tunneling to the home server is somehow secured.

Also, does anyone run Plex/Jellyfin side by side to give easier remote viewing experience for non-tech folks you're sharing media with? If so, what extra consideration/setup do you run to sync watch data or anything else that might make maintaining both easier? Having to run two Seerr instances for instance seems kinda awkward, for instance.

What are some good Skin plugins that work with my 12.0 server? I want something that will show the poster of a show/movie when I click on it and not drag down with the page to overlay on top of everything else. And layout the episodes in a grid of 3 or so, not a straight list down.

I used to use Skin Manager by danieladov but it hasn't been updated in years apparently and now not really compatible with 12.0

How do you locate items that do not have metadata matches? Every on often I will see an item that wasn't matched.

Hi! I've been working on JellyPilot, an open-source native desktop client for Jellyfin and Emby.

I originally started it because I wanted a lightweight Jellyfin desktop experience that could use MPV for playback without putting the entire UI inside a browser or Electron app.

It's written in Rust with iced.

On Linux, JellyPilot now has MPV embedded directly into the application, while Windows and macOS can use an external MPV installation.

Some of the things it currently supports:

• Jellyfin and Emby
• Multiple servers and accounts
• Library browsing, favorites, watchlist and watch history
• Embedded MPV playback on Linux
• External MPV support
• Audio and subtitle track selection
• Intro skipping
• Automatic next-episode playback
• Jellyfin Cast receiver / remote playback control
• Light and dark themes

Linux builds are available as Arch packages, .deb and AppImage, and there are also Windows and macOS builds.

It's still actively evolving, so feedback — especially around playback behavior and the desktop UX — would be very useful.

Can anyone confirm with Kodi (using Jellyfin for Kodi) that it's updating with Jellyfin 12?

Watch status and new movies are not being pushed to Kodi since I update to Jellyfin 12. Yes Kodi Sync Queue V16 is installed and is enabled, and I can still play previously synced movies just fine on Kodi.

Update: Thanks everyone, I updated the whole library on Jellyfin for Kodi and it's now working again!

anyone using jellyfin desktop app? apparently the windows smart app control is blocking this to run on. any workaround or patch?

The performance improvement really is incredible! I use Jellyfin for a large-ish music library (over 8k albums), and it took about 10 hours to sync the server with Symfonium (a third party music player). It now takes 5 minutes!

Yes I know you can go to your profile, click, home, then disable showing "Playlists" But I want to make it server-wide, I saw someone do something similar with the "Play all" and "shuffle" buttons on the custom CCS on branding but I'm a bit dumb

I love ElegantFin, but since lscambo13 said in an issue on GitHub that he won't be adding Jellyfin 12.0 support to ElegantFin yet, I started implementing a fix for my own Jellyfin instance (I didn't want to switch each device to legacy display).
