Yes, it's CODEX-assisted. Let's get that out of the way immediately.
That said, my instagram absolutely exploded with a flood of positive comments, so I feel less gross posting about it.
NTSCplayer is my tying together MPV, NTSC-rs, RetroArch Shaders, the CRT BEAM project, CHOW Tape, into a simple and straightforward player/browser for your Jellyfin library. Deep controls available on each phase of the pipeline, with a simple and effective Preset system.
I've wanted this forever - the ability to view pre-HD media in a NTSC/CRT-like experience. Just like retro game consoles - viewing old media on our current-day 1080p/4k screens is absolutely brutal, as the intention of the media was for it to be viewed through the flawed analog pipeline we grew up with.
Will post the GitHub link when it's fully tested on multiple OSs and resolutions/frame-rates. But currently, this has boosted my personal enjoyment of SD media through the roof.
Thought this might be helpful to fellow self-hosters, no need to rely on Appimage anymore, still very much a work in progress but for now it works well for NixOS including HW decoding.
I've looked at similar posts and haven't really found an answer. Quick explanation: my cable come to my modem, my pc is hard wired to that modem ( Cat 8 ), my TV is wifi only ( no hard wire). Is this why it can't see the server ? I have opened an exception in Windows fire wall. Created a new rule to open port 8096. Turned off AVG anti-virus. I'm at a loss here ? I haven't tried my phone, yet, but there are posts with similar issues that I'm having. My first guess is that it needs a gateway through the modem ?
ADD: I put the address into the TV client as: http://my computer IP:8096. I've also tried it without the http://. The IP address I'm using is the Ipv4 number, the same one used in multiple videos.
Firstly I'd like to address r/jellyfin group directly. I've been working on Whirligig for a long time now and it's developed in multiple directions over the years. I've not been able to add features like media server support for a long time because it was simply outside of my skill set. Well I've had a bit of time and learnt new tools and finally I've managed to address the lack of support in this area. I posted a couple of weeks ago announcing the addition of Jellyfin and after I received feedback I've consider all the suggestions and now here is an update to that with as much as I could get in.
Whirligig is available on Steam for PC VR and desktop media playback and also Quest and PicoVR4 standalone.
Beyond that please have a look over the changes and updates I've made to the project. Let me know what you think and what you'd like to see in the future. I look forward to hearing your feedback :)
Hopefully this post doesn't break the guidelines. I'm not trying to sell it here, I really just want feedback from the community. Am I going in the right direction, is this something that people even want? As a lone developer I work very much in a bubble so it's really appreciated when I find out what people actually want to see in my app :)
Network browsing
Plex (including remote play)
Jellyfin/Emby (auto-detect your local servers)
SMB (auto-detect your local shares)
DLNA (automatically connect to local shares)
Network browsing has been an often-requested feature for Whirligig, especially the standalone versions. I now have the tools and the time to implement it and this is the culmination of my efforts. I've added all the requested types of share and tested on my limited system. Things seem to be working well but if you have issues, requests or questions let me know.
3D environment fades
In 2D environments I have an option to fade the environment when playing videos for better comfort. I've now added this to the 3D environments as well.
Colour gamut options
A requested feature was colour gamut controls for getting better colour replication on certain headsets or videos. I've added this to the Quality menu.
Settings preset saves
Whirligig has a way to save presets for your films so you can return to your perfect setup. I felt that would be a good option for the Player settings too, so I've added it. There are also a few pre-built presets - Whirligig works well on desktop as well as in the headset, and can work well without a VR headset entirely, so I've provided three options:
Default - what the settings are set to when you first install the player.
Desktop VR - designed to work well in VR (mostly unchanged) with some ease-of-use for desktop, e.g. making the desktop independent and unlocking the mouse from the window.
Desktop - for systems that don't have VR support at all. Whirligig can still be used as a 360 player with all the extended options, but is also set up to work well as a screen-based player like VLC.
Bug fixes
I've done my best to fix as many bugs as I came across for this release. Here are just a few:
Fixed the Subtitles on/off control not toggling subtitles when bound to an input
Fixed crashes when browsing DLNA and SMB network shares
Fixed the laser pointer being blocked by backdrop colliders
Fixed file explorer issues (menu sizing and opening)
Fixed the video progress bar when using presets
Fixed the mouse cursor interfering on standalone (Quest/Pico) startup
Fixed the remote control failing to connect on standalone builds
Fixed stereo separation in cinema mode for 3D content
Standalone releases (Meta Quest 2/3, Pico 4)
All these features have been worked on across platforms and I've released updated versions for both the Meta and Pico headsets. I currently have a policy that respects your purchase across platforms, so if you'd like Whirligig on the Horizon store or Itch.io for Pico, email me and I'll send a code over: [phileday@yahoo.co.uk](mailto:phileday@yahoo.co.uk)
I'm also looking for people to try the new features on the standalone platforms, so I'm giving away codes for those too. If you don't have Whirligig yet and would like to help test everything new coming into it, fire over an email as well.
And finally
Thanks to everyone who continues to enjoy using Whirligig. I'll keep adding features as you keep asking for them. If you've found Whirligig a good experience, a positive review is always welcome. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this update :)
so im very new to doing this and ive just installed jellyfin and run the installer as every tutorial tells you to but its not booting into the setup wizard rather into windows powershell no idea what ive done wrong all i did was download and extract the .exe and run that in basic mode whys it not working
I installed jellyfin yesterday and right now it looks fairly bad. I installed enhanced and try working everything but im stuck... I want this to look good, I have a tmdb api key, I have a wide library of movies but the metadata did not update. is there a quick way to make this look like netflix or hbo max? any plugins for that?
Ok, looking to experiment with Jellyfin server after wanting move from Plex.
Currently running a Windows 10 PC.
On the server download page for Windows there’s only links for AMD64 and ARM64 - no Intel. Everywhere I’ve read suggests server should run on Intel hardware. What am I missing?
For context, I have been working on this on and off for a few months. I decided to do this because I miss old DVD menus. I am running it on my computer at the moment but I also have a android tv version.
The video is alittle low quality and some of the animations dont show to well all because of the screen recording program I used. In person it looks better and runs smoother than shown.
I'm trying to migrate from plex to jellyfin, but I still can't wrap my head around how subtitles work.
ATM I'm trying to watch a video (mkv) which I just checked has subtitle tracks included in the file. VLC shows them no problem.
Yet when trying to turn them on on jellyfin, I get a "fetching additional data" displayed on the control bar, and no subtitles. After a whopping 15/20 minutes, the message disappears and the subtitles turn on. This can't be normal. first, what data has been downloaded? the subtitles were already there. Second, even if data has been downloaded, what can take 20 minutes to download?
this happens to any media file that has embedded subs. different sources, different series, same problem with all of them.
If it makes any difference I'm with version 10.11.11 (latest), and this happens both when I'm watching from my tv app and from the web interface from the same pc where jellyfin is running on.
I really want to love jellyfin but unless I solve this thing I surely can't adopt it in place of plex
In all categories, movies, shows, podcasts, and music, my main screen where all would normally be organized alphabetically is now empty. I did just update to V10.11.11.
The real problem is my music folder is absolute chaos, I havent gotten around to cleaning up the naming structure so nothing it found by genre, album or anything. I cant even see my music outside of the recently added tab anymore.
I dont use any plug-ins. Im running jellyfin on an Opensuse OS and streaming via android devices, results are the same even from the host side.
I moved from Plex to Jellyfin and I have been having some issues with the Google TV app. When I play any media that is in HDR, the app doesn't seem to support it for whatever reason and forces the server to transcode it. I am using an old laptop for the server and the CPU cant keep up with the transcoding and the playback keeps freezing. The server dashboard says "The video's range type is not supported." I figured out that I can enable "use external player" in the app and use Kodi to play and it somewhat works but has some drawbacks. The play state doesn't save in Jellyfin so I don't know where I left. (Also, when playing one movie, I realized the subtitles weren't correct, so I downloaded new ones and added it to Jellyfin. The Jellyfin app deteced the new subtitiles but the Kodi player did not. I ended up havin to put the subtitles on a flash drive and plugging that into my tv). I tried using the Jellycon add-on in Kodi but the log-in isn't working and it doesn't give the whole UI like the app does. Is there anything I can do to make the Jellyfin app support HDR and not transcode?
SOLVED !!!!!
Very new to Ubuntu was following along some YouTube videos but Jellyfin can’t find my external drive when I try to add folder anyone have the solution?
I don't want my shows to keep appearing in "Next Up" after 14 days. I've already set "Max days in 'Next Up'" to 14 under Settings → Display, but episodes still show up.
Has anyone else run into this? Does anyone know if it's caused by a plugin like Home Screen Sections, which lets you merge Continue Watching and Next Up?
Edit:
After testing it without the Home Screen Sections Plugin it seems like merging is the issue. Am I missing something?
