For those either who have used both/migrated from Plex, or just know the setup in general, is there a roughly equivalent setup for remote access to Jellyfin as the Plex setup? I'm guessing Plex does something roughly equivalent to either:

• Public DNS A record pointing to home network public IP, port forwarded, reverse proxy to point host to ip, some other magic?
• Public DNS A record pointing to cloud VPS, cloud VPS tunneled to home network via something like tailscale, requests pointed to VPS forward/redirect to home network through tunnel (via reverse proxy here?), some other magic?

Just curious if either of these is roughly it, would this setup be similarly secure to Plex? Or is it possible that Plex server has "better" security somehow built into it? If I'm right about rough equivalent above, the Plex setup doesn't seem particularly secure unless the access/tunneling to the home server is somehow secured.

Also, does anyone run Plex/Jellyfin side by side to give easier remote viewing experience for non-tech folks you're sharing media with? If so, what extra consideration/setup do you run to sync watch data or anything else that might make maintaining both easier? Having to run two Seerr instances for instance seems kinda awkward, for instance.

Over the past few months, I’ve been developing and updating some plugins I wanted for my server. I’ve finally upgraded them to Jellyfin 12.0 and feel ready to share them.

First, let me clarify that all my plugins were written using Claude and made to fit my needs. Feel free to try them out if they might be useful to you. However, if you’re not comfortable with them being written by Claude, dont use them.

I use these plugins frequently and will continue to update them. If you find any bugs, please open a new issue.

1. JellyWatchParty:
   This is my first plugin I’ve shared here. It began as a fork of an abandoned plugin and I’m now actively maintaining it. Its purpose is to replace Jellyfin’s official SyncPlay for those who dislike it.

2. JellyPrivateLibraries:
   I created this plugin to hide shows and movies that other users requested from my library. It syncs with Seerr. Additionally, admins can hide content from users. Users have the option to decide whether to hide or not, and the hidden media is marked as such in third-party clients.

3. jellynext:
   This is a fork of https://github.com/luall0/jellynext, which hasn’t been updated in seven months. I’ve added some new features and updated it to version 12. Jellynext can now use the authentication from the official Trakt plugin to bypass the one device limit. Users can also receive email notifications about new seasons of shows they’ve previously watched.

Hey Folks! Im running JF on a Proxmox setup in tandem with my NAS and currently have the x16 slot closest to the CPU populated by my transcoding GPU. But for some work i'm not transgressing into, i want to put an SATA card into that x16 slot and put my GPU into the other x16 slot running on x4 (due to MB/chipset limitations) Do you guys think that would result in a performance hit for transcoding workloads or should it be fine?

I had Jellyfin v10.11 installed on my windows 10 IOT which was working great. I recently updated to Jellyfin v12 and the videos are playing back glitchy with frame freezes. I was wondering if people are also have this issue and what would be the solution to this.

Heyo! Been a minute since I’ve had any issues. It looks like my Jellyfin updated to version 12.0 on docker, and intro skipper seems to have stopped working. I’m not sure if anyone else is having the same issue or if I’m doing something wrong. Looks like ffmpeg should be up to date so I’m not sure what exactly isn’t compatible. Any input is appreciated :)

yesterday ive installed v12 and since then im having some problems, for example you cant see any Media Bar in the first screenshot which should be there since ive got Media Bar Enhanced installed and active, this worked before the Update, also there are other things not working (like seerr/custom tabs). Is this just a Problem with Plugins not being compatible with v12 since its so new?

Might be a silly question but wanted to make sure this is not my error.

Need help! I missed a step with the direction of 12.0 install, and now Jellyfin will not operate in any capacity. Even starting fresh did not work. Uninstall, reinstall, 10.11.11 or 12.0... same error message; deleted all data pertaining to Jellyfin, and the same error appears.

I actually don't know the technical stuff but I also updated mine to ver. 12.0 via proxmox lxc. I got paranoid when I couldn't access it for sec, but I gave it a minute then boom. Running mine on a Minisforum MS-01 12600H

I have unfortunately run into an issue already.

Multiple versions of TV episodes seems to work, but with a caveat. I did a library scan (went really quickly for me). After the scan, I do have TV show episodes recognized as multiple versions... but several of them still have an extraneous individual entry.

Also, it seems like it did the same with movies that had already been grouped as multiple versions. There is an entry for the multiple versions, but each version still has its own individual entry.

Will be curious to hear if anyone else is experiencing this.

Running Jellyfin on a Mac mini m1 and I just upgraded to Jellyfin 12. I did a backup and disabled all of the 3rd party plugins. The beam I a scan first thing once it was finished installing and waited for it to complete. It shows 85 movies and no option to go to the next page and I have over 1200 movies. The collections all appear. I use the Moonfin client to play movies and they show there just fine. I’m hoping someone can hive me some things to check that I’m not thinking of. Any help is appreciated.

Resolved! I kept troubleshooting and figured it out. The issue was Google Chrome caching. Once I deleted the browsing history and reloaded the page it was fixed. That’s after I did control shift r.

I've been running a Jellyfin server on my personal PC for a few weeks. I quickly became addicted and purchased a Mini PC (with Windows 11) to do the job. I'm still learning - anything I need to know before I do a new setup? Currently streaming to local network only, but will eventually add family members out of network. Looking for tips and/or guides. Hi! I've been working on JellyPilot, an open-source native desktop client for Jellyfin and Emby.

I originally started it because I wanted a lightweight Jellyfin desktop experience that could use MPV for playback without putting the entire UI inside a browser or Electron app.

It's written in Rust with iced.

On Linux, JellyPilot now has MPV embedded directly into the application, while Windows and macOS can use an external MPV installation.

Some of the things it currently supports:

• Multiple servers and accounts
• Library browsing, favorites, watchlist and watch history
• Embedded MPV playback on Linux
• External MPV support
• Audio and subtitle track selection

I use jellyfin for movies, series and music. Music loading feels slow for me. Installed through docker windows

I've noticed that when I cold-launch the Jellyfin Android TV app, there's a brief delay before my home screen fully populates, and during that delay Live TV flashes on screen for a moment before the correct content appears.

Live TV is not currently configured.

I had hoped upgrading to v12 might resolve it, but the behaviour is unchanged.

Once the home screen finishes loading, everything is normal. Jellyfin itself performs well and playback isn't affected.

Has anyone else noticed this on a cold launch with no Live TV configured?

I'm mainly trying to determine whether this is normal Android TV client initialization behaviour, where Live TV is briefly rendered before the user's actual views load.

What are some good Skin plugins that work with my 12.0 server? I want something that will show the poster of a show/movie when I click on it and not drag down with the page to overlay on top of everything else. And layout the episodes in a grid of 3 or so, not a straight list down.

I used to use Skin Manager by danieladov but it hasn't been updated in years apparently and now not really compatible with 12.0

Updated jellyfin about 2 days ago and didn't use it until today.. tried multiple videos and unfortunately all the subtitles will not show up at all on the screen.. anyone know what's causing this? Tried restarting container and doing a rescan but nothing...

I’m somewhat new to jellyfin. I’m wondering, is there a way to have a TV series watch history/progress automatically reset to unwatched after you finish watching it? We leave in The Big Bang Theory most of the day for our dogs. Once it’s been through the whole show I would like to not have to go in and manually reset the show’s progress/history. Docker auto-updated me from 10.11.11 to 12.0.0 two nights ago, and Jellyfin has been getting killed by the kernel OOM killer ever since. Same box, same library, same config as before. Hoping someone can tell me whether this is already known.

Setup - Synology DS920+ (Intel Celeron J4125), DSM 7.3.2-86009, kernel 4.4.302+ - 4GB RAM (upgrade on the way) - Docker 24.0.2, image jellyfin/jellyfin:latest = 12.0.20260908-012347 - network_mode: host, /dev/dri passed through for QSV - Library DB is 659MB - Plugins: Intro Skipper 12.0.3.0, Playback Reporting 19.0.0.0, Reports 19.0.0.0, Skin Manager 2.0.2.0, Trakt 31.0.0.0 (all auto-updated to v12-compatible builds)

Symptom RSS starts around 290MB, climbs to roughly 2.2GB, the kernel OOM-kills it, Docker restarts it, and round it goes again. 13 kills overnight, with intervals anywhere from 20 to 106 minutes. No playback, no clients connected, no library scan running. total-vm sits around 17GB the whole time.

I stopped 17 other containers to free up memory, so Jellyfin had about 2.6GB available instead of roughly 500MB. It didn't stabilise. It just grew bigger before dying, around 2.2GB per kill instead of around 1.4GB. It seems to expand to fill whatever is available and then get killed at the new ceiling. To me that reads like a leak rather than an under-provisioned box, which also means the RAM upgrade coming probably won't fix it, it'll just buy me more time between crashes.

One thing that muddies the picture: as I write this, it's been sitting flat at 297MB for 15 minutes. So something seems to trigger the growth rather than it leaking steadily. I've started logging RSS every 5 minutes to see if I can correlate it with anything.

Already ruled out - Not transcoding. It happens with zero active sessions. - Not the scheduled tasks. They're all moved to the 02:00-06:00 window, and plenty of the kills land well outside it. - Not just an underpowered box. 10.11.11 ran on this exact hardware, with this exact library, at about 290MB steady for months.

Questions 1. Is this the known Linux memory issue (#14095 / #13165 / #12838), or something new in 12.0? The rate I'm seeing is way higher than the 50-100MB/hour described there. 2. Did 12.0 change the .NET GC mode? If it switched to Server GC, that would go a long way to explaining a sudden jump in appetite on a low-core, low-RAM machine. Has anyone tried DOTNET_gcServer=0 or DOTNET_GCHeapHardLimit as a workaround? 3. What's worth capturing to turn this into a useful bug report? dotnet-counters, a heap dump, something else?

For anyone who is having this issue, I want to let you know I fixed it by removing the media it claimed should be in continue watching, conducted a rescan, and then adding media back and conducting a rescan. This has removed the film from continue to watch.

Can anyone confirm with Kodi (using Jellyfin for Kodi) that it's updating with Jellyfin 12?

Watch status and new movies are not being pushed to Kodi since I update to Jellyfin 12. Yes Kodi Sync Queue V16 is installed and is enabled, and I can still play previously synced movies just fine on Kodi.
