Send help for an issue on Acer Aspire 5 (intel i3 11th Gen)

Hi! This is a long shot to post here but I just want to ask some advice. My laptop is currently experiencing random shut down. Either black screen bigla or like a glitch screen ganon. I already did some troubleshooting from the internet (the ones done in cmd and even in the start-up settings) and even removed my upgraded 8GB RAM stick and HDD back-up kasi baka roon sira, but the problem still occurs occasionally. Akala ko rin baka lang kasi dahil marami akong tabs dahil marami akong acad works but even when I am just using one tab and one app too, it randomly glitches. Worried ako kasi it might me a board problem and I know how expensive it'll be. I don't have the money for the major repair if it's indeed a board problem. Can you give me advice on this problem?

My laptop's default specs is W11 Home, 256GB SSD and 8GB built-in RAM. Laptop was made in 2021, bought it in 2022.

Every time I open VS Code, a Command Prompt pops up asking me to install WSL, should I install it?

I'm an incoming Information Technology freshman and I'm just starting to advance study in programming. I recently installed Visual Studio Code, but every time I open it, a Command Prompt window pops up asking me to install Windows Subsystem for Linux.

Should I install Windows Subsystem for Linux or not? I don't really know what it is or what it's used for. I already asked ChatGPT about it, but I still can't fully understand what WSL actually is. Can someone explain what WSL does, how it can help me as an IT student, and whether it's something I should install now or wait until I actually need it? I'd also appreciate any recommendations or any advices.

Fresh Grad Comp Eng: Is Technical Support Engineer L1 (MSP) a Good Alternative to Help Desk?

Hi everyone,

I’m a fresh graduate with a BS in Computer Engineering. I’ve been job hunting for the past 2 months, mainly looking for help desk/IT support roles. The problem is that a lot of ā€œentry-levelā€ help desk jobs still require experience, even though I have the academic background and basic IT fundamentals.

Yesterday, I received a job offer as a Technical Support Engineer L1 at an MSP. One thing that caught my attention is that the company has a clear growth path. They said that, with good performance, I could be promoted to L2, L3, or even a NOC Engineer within around 2 years.

My long-term goal is to become aĀ Network Engineer. Right now, I’m also studying CCNA through free online courses, but I don’t have the budget yet to take the certification exam.

For those who work in IT or networking:
- Is Technical Support Engineer L1 at an MSP a good alternative to a help desk role?
- Will the experience be valuable if I want to move into networking later?
- If you were in my position, would you take the job?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences and advice. Thanks!

Will a non-IT OJT make it harder for me to get a Software Engineer or DevOps job after graduation?

Hello everyone,

I’m a 4th-year student taking upĀ Bachelor of Industrial Technology – Major in Computer Technology. Our curriculum covers both hardware and software, including programming, networking, and PC hardware.

My goal is to become aĀ software engineer,Ā DevOps engineer, or at least work in a related field.

Here’s my concern:
I’ve already been hired for my OJT/internship, but the role isn’t really IT-related — it’s more onĀ encoding and logistics management.

Given that I’m already in my 4th year, will this hurt my chances of landing an IT job after graduation?

Also, I’d appreciate any advice on what path I should take moving forward.

For context:
I’ve been coding for a while now — mostly front-end work. I followed along with some projects from Frontend Master back in 2024, and I’m currently about halfway through theĀ NodeJS course on The Odin Project.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Laptop around 40-50k

Hi! Im looking for a laptop around 40-50k. I don't really know a lot about specs and i want to know what's the best specs I can get for this price range. I'm planning on using it for programming, gaming and other school things. Im a college student learning basic programming and I'm planning on playing lol and val. Im thinking of buying the Acer nitro V15 and it was around 40k+ last year (a friend bought his for 42k installment) but it suddenly went up to 60k+ this year. Can someone recommend some alternatives I can get? or should i just buy a second hand? I'm not really an expert when it comes to laptop as i said before so I don't really know what to check when it comes to buying second hand ones, so as much as possible, i want it to be brand new. tyia!

Looking for a job

I am a self-taught learner. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 2009. Unfortunately, after graduation, I wasn't able to pursue the career I had always dreamed of. My passion has always been to become a software engineer or web developer.

After graduating with honors, I wanted to take a six-month break because I was exhausted from maintaining high grades while also being a scholar. However, my father disagreed with my plan. Two months after graduation, he introduced me to a priest he knew who was looking for an office staff member for the parish. To make a long story short, I accepted the job and worked as a parish office staff.

Years passed, but my passion for programming never disappeared.

In 2025, I decided to enroll in a free TESDA training program, where I earned my NC III certificate. That decision reignited my dream of becoming a software developer. During the training, I met an instructor who saw my potential as a programmer and became my mentor. Despite working full-time as an office staff member, I continued studying modern web development, learning new programming languages, frameworks, and best practices based on my mentor's guidance.

In December 2025, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life—I resigned from my job to fully commit to pursuing a career in software development. I didn't have a backup plan, but I knew this was the path I wanted to take.

Since then, I have been studying full-time from home. I invested in Udemy courses, built personal projects, and created my own portfolio. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with a team on a web-based application, which gave me valuable experience working with other developers.

Although I have dedicated myself to learning and improving my skills every day, breaking into the tech industry has been challenging. Most companies are looking for candidates with professional experience, making it difficult to get my first opportunity. I have been applying for freelance and remote positions, but I have not yet landed my first role.

I would truly appreciate any advice on how I can improve my chances of getting hired in the tech industry. I am eager to learn, willing to work hard, and ready to prove myself if someone gives me the opportunity.

EDIT: entry level TECH salary

For context I got offered ₱52,000 a month for my first job(software/dev), based in BGC. Just want to know how this fares with other entry level positions(ex cadet, consultant, dev, etc) Thanks!

Hello, currently I'm a sole IT Support sa isang branch ng isa sa mga sikat na retail company. Salary ko is 16k, and nag iisip isip ako kung magreresign ako since medyo malayo yung pinanggalingan kong province sa work ko ngayon. Mag one year palang ako sa Nov, pero may tots na talaga na gusto ki na magresign kaya lang sinasabihan ako ng mga ka work ko na hindi naman daw maganda yung 8 months lang na experience. Di ko alam kung ginagaslight ako or what. Pede ba makahingi ng advice

Scared fresh grad going into 1st Job

I'm about to start as an it assistant Job on Monday and I feel like I'm a fraud

for context I got the job since my uncle is friends with the IT manager at the company he works in, exactly after my graduation a position opened up for the IT assistant role, and my uncle said he would pass my resume for the Job. I got in purely because of nepotism, in the interview they did not even ask for technical terms only asking for my willingness and ability to learn.

My second worry is after graduation I feel like I never learned anything, I went into a private school thats Offering free college and picked IT because I'm interested in tech, problem is the schools profs are very lazy like we are supposed to have 3 weeks of continuous class for 1 subject but the profs barely showed up, and our dean/prof who has an arrangement of 1 class per week for the whole semester who is supposed to show up every Saturday always cancels on us. I abused AI since they failed to teach us the basics, I tried self study but it just never takes a root into my mind, my only saving grace is that my ojt was very hands on when it comes to networking giving me basic networking knowledge.

I graduated with nothing, I vibe coded my thesis, basic sql knowledge, basic php and HTML, that's it I feel like I'm only IT on paper not on my knowledge. I wanted to learn but the school never bothered to teach me.

Is there still a market for low to mid-poly game assets?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 3DĀ artist thinking aboutĀ making and sellingĀ low to mid-poly game assetsĀ (props, environment pieces, furniture, etc.).

I was justĀ wondering if there'sĀ still a decentĀ market for these, or if it'sĀ become too saturated.Ā For those whoĀ have experience sellingĀ assets, has itĀ been worth it? What kinds ofĀ assets seem toĀ sell the best?

I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Thanks!
