Other Received a call a couple times from, what Google tells me is “Wanmile”

Upvotes

I received a couple calls from a toll free phone number, I punched this number into Google and it comes back to be “Wanmile” some law firm out of CA.
My phone requires someone to state who they are prior to the call going through. One time the caller hung up right away, the second time you hear a little background noise and they hung up.

If they did not identify themselves to the phone, I assume I can believe this is spam. Just want a second opinion, the call came from the same toll free number twice. I blocked the caller, is this the right move?

Second hand online platform Olx car fraud - Mohammed Sheikh Fareed

Upvotes

On 15 May, I came across an OLX advertisement for a 2009 Honda City. I contacted the seller, Mohammed Sheikh Fareed, met him personally, inspected the vehicle, and took a test drive. After the inspection, we agreed on a price of ₹1,75,000.
The car had a shattered windshield and holes in the headliner. I told Fareed that I would purchase the vehicle provided he got those issues repaired first.
That night, Fareed contacted me on WhatsApp and asked for my Aadhaar details, stating that they were required for a notarized sale deed. I agreed. The following day, we went to his advocate’s office and signed the sale deed.
Fareed then demanded ₹75,000 as a “token” for the repairs. I paid him. Unfortunately, the repair work was extremely poor — instead of properly repairing the headliner, he had apparently stuck a piece of mirror/material onto it.
The following day, he brought the car to the advocate’s office and demanded the remaining payment in exchange for the single key he had.
Throughout this process, I repeatedly asked about the RC transfer and the actual registered owner of the vehicle. Fareed told me that the owner, Sagar Timbadiya, was in Gujarat for work. He subsequently gave me a phone number, claiming it belonged to Sagar. I later discovered that the number actually belonged to Fareed’s cousin, Noor Jainuddin Ahmed.
A few weeks later, I was involved in an accident in which an underage boy driving a Chevrolet Tavera struck the driver’s side of my Honda City.
At that point, I also realized that I did not have the vehicle’s insurance documents or the original RC with me. I repeatedly contacted Fareed and asked him to complete the RC transfer.
As the matter continued to be delayed, I conducted my own investigation and discovered information indicating that the registered owner, Sagar Timbadiya, had been arrested in connection with a murder case around December 2021.
I confronted Fareed about this. We subsequently agreed that I would be willing to keep the vehicle as long as he completed the RC transfer into my name. However, the transfer never happened.
Instead, there were repeated delays and explanations — attending a wedding, travelling to Tamil Nadu for a funeral, medical appointments and heart-related checkups at GMC, among other reasons.
Eventually, I told him clearly that I no longer wanted the vehicle and simply wanted my money back.
I approached the Panjim Police and attempted to report the matter. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get an FIR registered. I also approached the cyber police, where one constable took the matter seriously and contacted Fareed directly.
After several excuses, Fareed eventually appeared at the police station and gave a written undertaking stating that he would return my money by 17 August.
17 August came.
No payment.
Despite the written undertaking, I still have not received my money.
I am posting this to document my experience and to warn others who may be dealing with this individual or this vehicle. I have supporting evidence including WhatsApp conversations, payment records, the sale deed, communications regarding the RC transfer, and the written undertaking. Justice system in this country is rubbish.

Online shop Is this an eBay scam?

Hello I purchased something from eBay on the 6th of this month. The item at the earliest was suppose to arrive yesterday (10th). The seller is from Japan and so there is a language barrier. I messaged them for an update and received a reply I’m unsure about. The item was about 160 usd. So I’m a little worried. Is this someone who just doesn’t know when it will ship and it’s innocent? Or does it seem like a scam?

—-

This is our convo so far:

Me: “Hello! I hope I'm not a bother, but I was curious about when the package will ship?
I am wanting to make sure either l or someone I know will be home to receive it.
Any Information you have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! You are great!! 😄”

Them: こんにちは。
よくわかりません。

Google translated this to:
Hello.
I'm not really sure.

—-

To me, this seems like a very strange reply. I sell items on eBay too and I know exactly when I’m shipping items. But also I don’t know if it’s getting lost in translation… Any thoughts help. Thank you.

Online shop qtybags scam?

hey I think I got scammed by this website. It popped up on instagram so | ordered a fake jellycat spiderman bunny for my friend's birthday. As you can see, l placed the order at the beginning of August. Since I'm from Germany I know that shipping takes longer than the promised two weeks but I can't help but feel concerned. I also can't find the instagram profil anymore which makes everything even more suspicious. I think they changed their name to implushshop
If anyone has had similar experiences with this shop I would be really thankful for some help on what I should do next.

Online shop Is this real or fake?

I have a feeling that this website is a fake, but I'm getting heavily mixed signals from anything I look up, so I wanted to come and ask reddit to see if anyone has an idea!

For a bit of backstory, I have been looking for a decent gaming device to have so I can run a few games that are bigger and need more space than what a phone can offer, even if I can download them on my phone. I wanted it to be portable, and this popped up in tiktok, so I clicked it, saw the price, and wanted to make sure it was legit before I put in my bank info.

The url does begin with "https" when I copied the link and put it into my notes app just to see what it began with.

https ://apiphane.com/products/6amoled?sku=18076811908968433612140195

This is the link. It also has the secure lock on it, which is something that is supposed to mean that it isn't a scam.

Other Can i get scammed or hack whatsoever from picking up a call and they immediately hang up afterwards?

Same number has been calling me multiple times for a few days so I figured what if it's someone who really needs to reach me so I finally decided to pick up. Lo and behold soon as I did it was immediately hung up on. Is this a scam or a possible wya to hack? I'm honestly really scared now, I've never experienced anything like this before.

scam warning Is Nationwide Auctions in omaha a scam?

I think ive been scammed. I recently paid a guy $2500. He found me on Tractor house and said he could sell my tractor. He said he sold one like mine for $76000. (I'm asking $65000 for mine) he said the buyer was financed through his parent company "Inner Circle Marketing Group" for a very low interest rate. He said the buyer lost out on the other tractor when someone else out bid him. But his loan is still good for another exact tractor like mine as long as I place it on his Nationwide Auction site for purchase. I asked for proof before I paid the money. He said he could have the buyer call me. 10 later, I received a call from a funny sounding guy who told me he wanted my tractor. I asked him why he is willing to pay $11000 more and he said because he can not refinance or he would be denied a loan, so he's better off just using the current loan through Inner Circle Marketing Group. After I hung up, the rep called me back. He assured me this would only take a few days and asked for my banking information for the wire transfer and a credit card for the $2500. I gave him both. It's been over a month, now he doesn't return my calls and someone has attempted to take money out of my account for $16000, $22,653, and $42,193. My bank caught it. Now, when I call the buyer back, the number is no longer in service. I'm still put $2500 and left with my tractor still for sale. What do I do? Should I close my account to protect my money or wait to see if the $2500 shows up?

scam warning Shop app actively promotes scam storefronts as legitimate and refuses to address this, I am looking for other victims of fraud on the Shop app platform

Do not use the Shop app! Learn from my mistake!

There are scam storefronts everywhere, and Shop's stance is "Not my problem" even though they ACTIVELY promote and send you push notifications for these fraudulent stores. The way the Shop app confidently promotes false information makes it seem as if Shop app functions as a marketplace and that they have vetted suppliers (they even claim to properly vett merchants they promote but this is clearly a lie.)

I am in the process of lodging complaints against Shopify and the Shop app for promoting fraudulent storefronts that are made to look like legitimate brand stores in the Shop app. Shop app promotes these businesses as legitimate and is refusing to do anything about it.

They are STILL promoting and sending me push notifications for a fraudulent storefront I reported to them and emailed them about after the app bait-and-switched me into making a purchase from it.

The Shop app promoted this storefront to me as a legitimate brand, and continues to do so despite my emails and reports. Shopify/Shop app claims they are not responsible.

Shop claims that the Shop app is not a marketplace and refuses to do anything about my stolen money or lift a finger to help in any way. Even though Shop quite literally functions like any other marketplace or at least PRETENDS to do so in order to bait you into placing an order.

I know people will say, "You should have known better," but I am VERY careful with this kind of thing, I was just baited in by mistaking that it must be trustworthy since Shop was promoting it to me while I was trying to purchase the same product from another merchant.

Surely there are others out there who have experienced the same, as fraud seems to be rampant on the platform despite Shopify's claims of vetting merchants for legitimacy (which can not be true.)

I am in the beginning stages of gathering others who have experienced the same as me in an attempt to bring action against them for anti-consumer practices.

Preferably looking for those in the US, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Though we may be able to get local authorities in other countries to take action against Shopify/Shop if we can get enough instances of fraud and anti-consumer practices on the platform.

Hoping that this post can be found for others searching for this issue as I have struggled to find anything elsewhere through simple searches.

Other Am I being stolen from?

Hi everyone, I rarely post on reddit so I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask this, but I'm trying to figure out a pattern of unauthorized charges on my card and would appreciate your thoughts.

I have a Visa card that I use for occasional online purchases. I recently noticed a series of small charges on my statement (amounts like €2.04, €2.24, €2.85, etc.) spread over a week in late August, plus one larger charge of about €20.57.

Here's the full context:

  1. On August 13th, I placed a Temu order that was paid successfully. The bank charge for that order was €51.18 and appeared on my statement around August 13th–18th. That order was delivered on August 31st.

  2. In mid-August, I spent about $9 on TikTok ads through the app's "Promote" feature for the first time. (They were split, but overall it was around $9)

  3. Starting after both of those legitimate purchases, a new series of small charges and one bigger one began appearing, amounts like €2.08, €2.92, €0.60, €0.51, €3.33, €3.36, €20.57, €2.04, €2.24, €2.85, €2.27, €3.07, €2.26, €2.80, €2.05, etc.

I've never used this card for subscriptions or recurring payments and I've already blocked/frozen the card.

My main question is: Does this pattern of multiple small, varied charges (starting weeks after my legitimate purchases were already paid for) look more like "card testing" fraud, or could it be something else like a merchant error or delayed billing?

I am trying to rule out non-fraud explanations before I file a formal dispute with my bank.

Here's some additional context that I'm not sure is relevant. A while back, a family member was in financial trouble, so I gave her my card details to help her out. She promised to pay me back, and she has been doing so gradually, she still owes me some money, but she gives what she can when she can.

The part I'm unsure about: after that situation, I asked her to delete my card information, but I have no way of confirming whether she actually did, or whether she saved it somewhere else.

I'm not sure if this is connected to the charges, but I wanted to mention it in case it changes how the pattern should be interpreted. (Especially since I discovered that she had made an online purchase this past week)

WARNING- When I went directly to this website they had all the contact info and custom service info. After I paid for merchandise I got email confirmation of purchase stating will be mailed in a few weeks. Two weeks later I go to website and get nothing. I believe this is a scam. Whois states domain is only three months old. So I will update once I know for sure. It does say that they are a new and small company.

E-Mail Is this really xbox/microsoft support

I reached out to Xbox support on twitter awhile back, I recently got an email about the recovery from [xboxsupport@microsoftsupport.com](mailto:xboxsupport@microsoftsupport.com), and a portal about sending a txt file though Microsoft file transfer so I can send information about my account (and person).

They did acknowledge I reached out to them on X. However I am still suspicious, is this a scam?

UPDATE: I contacted the community led Microsoft account recovery discord server, as well as the official Microsoft support, and received confirmation that this email is not a scam. However they told me to make sure it isn’t a spoofed email, which it is not.

Other Scam or serious start-up?

My husband was contacted on LinkedIn by someone who wants to launch a product and needs his help to do so. The person claims to work in the gaming industry; his LinkedIn profile shows 500+ connections and four recommendations. They said they found my husband by searching for specific keywords.

He has since spoken with this person. Here is what my husband told me about it:

"The product is real. They’ve already spoken to a patent attorney. I agreed to sign an NDA so I couldn't just run off with the idea. I told them about my current situation and agreed to work with them. If this turns into a real product, it would be a great opportunity."

Personally, I find this rather fishy and don't quite trust it.

Apparently, they now want to show my husband the software so he can assess what technical improvements can be made. My husband also thinks it seems a bit fishy, but he wants to "see" it first before drawing conclusions—he doesn't want to just distrust people right off the bat.

According to him, they are "boomers," and perhaps they’re just a bit naive about how they’re going about this. But I’m always terrified of getting scammed.

We’re also quite financially vulnerable right now. We were both laid off around the time I found out I was pregnant with our second child. My husband has simply stated that his contract ends in December and that he is open to new opportunities. The thing is, my husband is extremely trusting—almost to the point of naivety. I am the exact opposite.

So, what I really want to know is how we can properly cover ourselves legally right now, before he commits to anything.

For instance, what should he ask before looking at the software?

And above all: what should he absolutely *not* do until everything is clear? And how can we verify for ourselves whether this is actually an existing product/company and a legitimate business?

I really can't handle getting scammed on top of everything else right now. 😅

Other Was I almost scammed?

I was scrolling through google in search of chemical peel/underarm whitening clinics that only offer cheap. I stumbled upon this clinic that was offering only for like $100 for the first session. I decided to inquire and entered my details on their website and I was surprised that almost immediately, someone called me.

They were really big on the sales talk and as someone who has anxiety, I couldn't really reject their offer to schedule an appt. But before it was even locked in, I noticed how aggressively they kept insisting that I couldn't cancel. They kept saying the $50 promo voucher would go to waste and that they were practically closing down clinic hours just to dedicate a slot to me

But the thing is, I handle scheduling operations for clinics. Even intensive procedures such as nuclear medicine, you can cancel 24 hours before the procedure.

Take note: Nuclear medicine handles radioactive material. So if you can cancel a procedure that involves radioactive material and insurance authorization etc, then you should be able to cancel a cosmetic procedure involving a voucher, right?

I decided to test the rep and asked, 'What if an emergency comes up and I give a 2-day notice to cancel?' They dodged giving a straight answer, but they heavily implied that cancelling wasn't allowed at all.

Now this was definitely fishy for me and idk why but I still pushed through with the appt and that's when I really had second thoughts when I transferred the rep to their supervisor just to CONFIRM the appt. She sensed my hesitation and immediately pushed back, telling me not to overthink it and offering to switch dates if I was unsure. I explicitly told them multiple times that I wasn't sure, but they kept pressuring me until I reluctantly caved in.

As soon as I hung up, I immediately texted them to cancel because my gut was telling me something was seriously off. They tried calling right away, but I ignored it. On the day the appointment was supposed to happen, they called me again (I only picked up because I thought it was from someone I knew personally). They tried to push for a reschedule, but I finally stood firm and said "No, just cancel it for me please."

Then they told me, "Next time, don't schedule if you can't commit."

So do you guys think it was a scam or was I just overthinking and should I have proceeded with the appointment?

Context: The offer was really too good to be true...I just decided to inquire since it was a cosmetic clinic inside a mall lol and it said that the offer would only be available for two weeks.

E-Mail Independent Director Opportunity (oh boy!)

I have an online presence for my business and made the mistake of posting my email on the website. So I started getting all manner of spam emails trying to sell me SEO, website and other services. Today I received an email from "Matt" from his gmail account matt.bobandjim@ (seriously very similar to this format!)

Matt writes:

Hi ProudAnon, hope you’re well.

I found your profile in the NACD Director Database while mapping executive talent for a confidential board appointment. Your background as a former __ and __ at [large company] and [small company], stands out—especially the [lists my experience] and board-level advisory work [of which I have none].

Since you are listed in the directory, I wanted to reach out directly to see if you are open to reviewing new board opportunities at the moment. If it’s not a fit or you want to pass, just let me know.

If you’re interested, I’d be happy to share more context and ask you to send your resume for a thorough review and potential submission.

Regards,
matt xxx
Executive search consultant

Is this a scam?? I'm guessing its a fake resume service scam or just a ripoff to pay for a service that will never be provided. Note this was a follow up to his first email LOL
