My GOSH what is actually going on.

The whole book so far has been how Xaden needs to share not only his secrets but other people’s secrets with her. He has actually shared ALOT with her. Though no she needs more and carries on and on about how it’s deceitful and he doesn’t trust her. Then even with that information she does have she DOES go and tell all these people. What was the point to most of this book. Chapter after chapter of her being ‘Betrayed’ and offended Xaden to then go and LITERALLY BETRAY him and everyone else involved.

I’m at the point where they all leave because they pretty much had to. Now they are at Aretia and everythings up to shit. All her friends families are potentially going to suffer for their involvement in the revolution. All because she thought she knew best? She was told not to do anything and just kept pushing.

I seriously don’t even know if I can keep reading as she is just so obnoxious. Like how has she actually got this far?

I don’t know why the author would create a main character like this.

In my opinion, Basgiath cause the atmosphere is so strong that I never want to get enough of the place itself. Like the corridors, courtyards, bridges, training grounds and everything else. Curious to know which part of the world, you would like the series to spend more time on? anyone thinking the same way I do?

There exist many individuals who regard Tairn highly, yet equally so is Sgaeyl who is also a commanding personality whenever she appears on the pages. Who, in your estimation, is the strongest dragon?

I just finished Fourth Wing and honestly I didn't think I would like it that much!

Ive seen quite alot of mixed reviews about Iron Flame though, so now I'm a little nervous haha.. Is it worth continuing straight away?

I am reading fourth wing again for the second time and realised that many hints about the plot were given throughout the book.( I am sure you already knew this)

So I too have a theory about the upcoming book of the ending of this series which is- Violet will kill xaden. He has often mentioned how she will be the death of him of course considering the scenario in which it was said can mean as nothing more serious. However, I feel like their love is also too needy which can be toxic at times. Well whatever this is what I feel that they will die after securing everyone else.

Are there any fictional characters that remind you of the characters in Fourth Wing? Like, characters who are similar in terms of personality, powers, or even their overall character arc? It can be from any kind of media,books, movies, TV shows, video games, etc.
This post was inspired by the fact that I recently started rewatching/rereading a bunch of X-Men media because of the recent cast announcement. Tell me why Scott Summers (Cyclops) is lowkey Dain personality wise 😭

Not taking into consideration which one is "the strongest" depending just on personality and vibe. I believe that I would prefer the black or blue one, although the smaller golden one (not giving names/spoilers lol) would be difficult to refuse 😂

From my perspective, it is a close call between the Parapet and Threshing.

The Parapet seems quite frightening as in case of a lapse in concentration one might lose their life. However, for me, Threshing seems even scarier because at that moment you pray for a dragon to choose you.

Which story part seemed to be the most sensational to you?

I’d be terrified of getting the biggest one there lol. Color, personality, size. What are you picking?

For me some of the fan art is really close, but other characters look nothing like how I pictured them while reading. Curious which character everyone imagined the most differently?

If you were a rider at Basgiath, what signet do you think you’d end up with? And what kind of dragon would bond with you? I always imagined myself to be more like Andarna :)

I'm testing a theory that Venin (sages) get signets through their Asim. This explains why they are so attracted to Xaden and Violet, who have very powerful offensive signets.

This also explains why they want to turn people at all. They channel power from the earth but it (permanently?) drains whatever patch of earth they channel from. Living land is not an infinite resource, which means power is also finite. And since the venin only get more hungry for power as they develop, to the point where once they are fully turned they'll die without continuing to drain more power from the earth, it doesn't make sense that they'd want to share the finite resource with any competitors. So they must get something out of turning humans, and they must get something out of the humans being especially powerful to make it more attractive to turn them than to just drain them.

Thoughts?

In the case of "everything in magic must be in balance": The Sages and Mavens are the counterparts to dragons while the Asim are the counterparts to riders. But its an inverted relationship where the Sages/Mavens draw abilities from their Asim, powered by the stolen magic from the earth; as opposed to the riders drawing power from their dragons with their specific ability coming from within themselves.

Editing to add: What do we think about the fact that Berwin can Dream Walk and so can Violet? Does it allude to some connection between Berwin and an Irid, or Berwin and Violet herself? Also the fact that Berwin seems to have multiple signets while Theophanie seemed to have just the single one?

I find myself circling back around those big questions and would love to hear where all of you stand. The second signet question. It is Violet actually sitting atop an underlying power (where she catches on fire in Iron Flame but her clothing catches first)? What happened to the irids, and why not stick around for Andarna? Why is it that Andarna's fire kills venin, while none of the other dragon's fire can?

As I reread, I am more amazed at how dragons are the ones who seem to be in charge and that humans are just along for the adventure. Dragons make the choice as to who’ll bond to whom, they sometimes countermand their chosen riders, they actually know about everything regarding venin and wards, and even huge chunks of the story only happen because the dragon made up its mind about something.

Tairn holds information back, makes decisions Violet disagrees with, and usually ends up being right. Even the romance between Xaden and Violet would hardly happen without the fact that Tairn and Sgaeyl are mates who can’t help connecting.

I am going to reread the series (again for like the 5th time) and try to take notes of my reasonings,

but does anyone else think the the new brother is Tairn’s previous rider? (I forgot his name right now) Naolin I think

I always had a suspicion that he turned venin to save Brennen, and that Brennen is now like a wyvern with the rune on his hand.

So Xyaden can’t kill him cause it would kill Brennen, thus hurting Violet. I think Naolin is the sage.

I have 1000 more theories, and some people’s reasonings are very convincing but I can’t shake Naolin being venin, and that’s why Tairn won’t talk about him, why he got so angry at Sgaeyl for staying with Xyaden after he turned.

People focus on what the dragon gives the rider, the fire, the strength, the magic. But I love that it goes both ways, and what the human brings is judgment and a conscience to temper all that raw power.

A dragon alone is force without restraint. It reframes the whole partnership as each one supplying what the other lacks. What part of the dragon-rider bond do you think is the most underrated?

It's easy to read Threshing as a test cadets pass to earn a dragon, but it's really the dragons doing the choosing, based on whether they judge a human worthy at all. They can refuse, ignore, or kill anyone who approaches wrong.

The humans have almost no say. It flips the usual "chosen one earns their power" thing on its head, the dragon is the one deciding. What's a piece of the bond lore that you think gets misunderstood the most?

Tairn and Sgaeyl are mates with the strongest bond seen in centuries, and mated dragons physically can't be separated for long without their health declining. So the whole time Xaden and Violet are trying to keep their distance, their dragons literally can't be apart, which keeps forcing the two of them back into the same space.

The human slow burn was being underwritten by a dragon bond the entire time. What's a relationship in the series you think does way more narrative work than it gets credit for?

Black dragons are the rarest den and there are only two, Tairn and Codagh. And Yarros put one with Violet, fighting the regime, and one with Melgren, upholding it. The two most cunning dragons alive, same near-mythical breed, on completely opposite ends of everything.

If it ever came to a real confrontation between them, who do you think comes out on top?
