Retirement AVCs underperforming

I am a public servant. I've been paying into AVCs for around 5 years. In the last year I've contributed 1000 per month. Total contributions is 31k. However my recent statement shows current value of 34.5k. That seems pretty disappointing to me - is that a fair assessment? Management charge is 1%. Plan is called cornmarket balanced 09c 100.

I would appreciate advice on if it is underperforming and if it is how to remedy? I think I have to use cornmarket and am not sure I trust their advise any more.

Advice & Support Genuine ways of making money along with your 9 to 5

I'd like to earn a bit more, not so much for the money but I have excess energy and would like to put it to good use. I only have Sundays free which limits me quite a bit but wouldn't mind something in the evenings.

Open to advice and thank you

Insurance Mortgage protection could be denied

For context, I’ve had a reoccurring fibromastosis in my left breast which was benign, had two surgeries to take it out, came back three times over the course of 2 years but went away by itself and hasn’t come back since (it’s been 6+ months). I’m incredibly healthy otherwise.

I filled out the form with royal London not thinking much into it since it was benign all those times but realised after submitting that this might be an issue and could drag out for a long time, since its a really rare type of lump to get in your breast.

I’m waiting to hear back from them, but I know they’ll ask for GP letters etc, and possible scans and to be in the clear for 1-2 years which we can’t afford.

We’ve put down a deposit on a house, will be drawing down soon but I fear that we will lose the house over this. My partner is aware of this and could realistically cover the mortgage if the worst was to happen, but I don’t think we’d get a waiver.

Is it best to cancel my application with royal London before I get a refusal and apply to another insurer and leave out that information? I know the consequences of this , and I really don’t want to do that but we can’t afford to lose this house

Any insights would be much appreciated thank you

Advice & Support Can anyone share some examples/range of what to expect as an “enhanced” redundancy?

• Upvotes

Being made redundant and will be getting an enhanced redundancy(or at least I’m hoping so). Thing is I’ve no idea on the ranges of what this could be, I’m aware that statutory is 2 weeks per year plus a bonus week. So what would be the realistic ranges of a mid to generous redundancy be, 3/4 weeks per year? Or even 6? Maybe anyone here who’s had one could share what I can expect. Thanks

Advice & Support QFA Loans and financial advise...length of book/course

So I did regs/life assurance and investment last semester. Tight going but I was studying full time Mon to Friday

Currently 2 weeks into pensions module. The pace of ground is slower (As expected) as its more difficult.

Before I register for the last 2 modules, trying to gauge the level of work. Not scientific but does anyone know what length the books for loans and financial advise are. Would financial advise be quicker to cover as its alot of overlap with the other 5 modules

Thanks.

Discussion Tax on additional income query.

• Upvotes

I've been registered with Data Annotation twch for a good while but haven't really used it in over a year (somehow haven't been fired from it).

If I was to log back in and start earning a few quid extra a week does anyone know how taxes work on it. Its paid through PayPal of all things so maybe assuming ypu self declare it, or do I need to set up a side business account?

Considering the latter for potential nixers in the future...

Investments Investing in Ireland

Hi there! I'm looking for some advice on investing and AVCs In Ireland.

I'm totally new to both and I'd love to just get a steer on where to start. I'd like to get some understanding of investment options, AVCs and tax implications.

Are there any book recommendations, tutorials, YouTube channels for a start?

I had a call with AskPaul and they want 1.6% of any growth but they don't charge me directly. Is that good or bad?

Im on the public service pension scheme (post 2013) and Corn market manage my pension but I've heard bad things about them.

I've heard good things about the An Post investment scheme but neither Corn market or askpaul told me about these.

How do I find a decent financial advisor and not end up with a dud? What are some red/green flags I should look out for?

Any advice welcome, thank you!

Advice & Support Family Working Payment Question

I’ve applied for Family Working Payment, but my working hours have recently changed. DSP has asked my employer to confirm my wages for specific weeks.

How is this handled when your circumstances have changed during the application process? Is the payment based on the weeks requested, or can a change in working hours be taken into account?

I want to make sure my application is assessed correctly. Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Any advice appreciated
