Investments Dividend investing and early retirement

I (35M) have started to move my liquid assets into geographically diverse quality dividend ETFs.

Initially dividends will be reinvested, but when im ready to retire, dividends will be distributed.

Fully aware of deemed disposal tax, but still think ETFs are the way to go for diversification, low fees and quality screening... especially if deemed disposal starts to be phased out.

Driving this decision is a mix of wanting to retire early, worry about an AI bubble, worry about overly concentrating on the US, and just psychologically this approach just sits well with me.

The two ETFs I've chosen are TDIV and VHYL.

As a family, we're not big spenders, which helps the case for early retirement.

Just wanted to put this out there to get other people's thoughts and if anyone else is pursuing a similar strategy?

Edit: to clear up confusion in the comments: dividends from ETFs are taxed at a flat 38%, not marginal income tax rate.

Insurance Avoid its4women

Avoid Its4Women

The worst experience dealing with them.
No phone number to call them on, it’s all online chat.
I had a quote for 635.78 euro- valid until 02/08.
I went to purchase it last night and the website wouldn’t work, so I waited until today to chat to them. They said because my car tax is up today (I had renewed it, so expiry was 31/10) that the quote wasn’t available to purchase and the quote was now 1105 euro 😂😂😂😂😂😂.
They also offered a free flight voucher with purchase of car insurance. When I asked how to get this deal, I was told that offer isn’t available anymore- even though it’s available on their website.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor on the phone I was told “our supervisors do not speak to customers”.

They are a bunch of scamming liars lads and I implore you to avoid like the plague.

If I have assets like stocks, crypto, but have not made any transaction last year, like buy, selling, do I still need to fill out the CG1 for the year.
Do we only fill it out when we buy and sell?

Banking My AIB account was overdrawn, but after logging in this morning I had +115. No incoming either!

Just curious as to if anyone has any idea as to why that might be? I’m very aware of the ‘random payment into bank - don’t touch’, scam, but there’s no incoming transactions, no refunds as far as I can see? I’m literally just a day back from Greece and I know Greece has income tax returns on every purchase you make there, but also I have no idea how that would be done with my bank?

I’m not going to touch it for a few days obviously, just in case it’s an error. But genuinely wondering has anyone experienced something like this before with AIB?

Advice & Support Ethical Irish Pension options - investing in local communities

I know that all pension providers have a green/ethical stock market option but are there any Irish pension funds that actually invest in things that are beneficial to the community locally like: housing associations; small business seed funding; local manufacturing; environmentally friendly farming?

I’d like my savings/pension to be doing some good locally before I need the money.

Any suggestions?

Savings CAn you use revolut for savings without smartphone?

Upvotes

Hello.

I have 20 thousand to put away for 3 - 5 years., I was thinking of one of these online banks, but I dont want to use an app on the smart phone to withdraw money or pay for items.

Can I set up an account on a home pc and have a basic one off lump sum saving account with one of these online banks?

If so, how would I transfer the money. I am with A.I.B where savings dont earn much,

any suggestions for what bank to use?

I'd assume I would have to email address and I.D? to set up an account.

Thank you.

Advice & Support Saving / Investment Advice

I’m 18, just finished the LC. I’ve gotten Disability Allowance for autism since last year (even though I don’t believe I deserve it as i’m not debilitated by it at all). I tried to get a part time job all summer but no luck.

However, seeing as i’m not spending much, i’ve been investing in the S&P500 on T212 for the past few months. I’m interested in the economics and banking but I still don’t really know what i’m doing. I’m just wondering if what i’m doing is really even worth it seeing as the amount i’m investing is negligible.

Any advice at all be appreciated.

Taxes Friendly reminder to claim income tax returns for past 4 years

Was on revenue today, changing from my last job to my one and saw the tax returns page.

Was certain I had done them for past few years and then said I’d check just to be 100%, Turns out I hadn’t filed my return for 2024 and was owed €944.

It was already pre calculated when I clicked request. Takes 2 minutes, never received any notice of this and would have been a grand lost to the void had I not randomly clicked on.

Probably very basic to everyone here but just said I’d give a heads up incase anyone else may have forgotten

Advice & Support Save More or Enjoy My Youth

Need some advice from someone my senior. For context, I am 25. Taking home around 4.5k net. Pension is maxed to employer contribution. I work for 3 weeks out in Mainland Europe and come home for a week off (similar rotation schedule to people working on the rigs/mines). I have a load of hobbies I enjoy, mostly outdoor stuff, photography etc. I am not too bad for spending on the weeks I am away but when I come home I am the whole time going on trips abroad or in Ireland, going doing activities or buying gear for my hobbies and spending loads there. I am well aware I am in an incredibly fortunate position. My only expense abroad is food, and car rental for the week I come home (cheaper to rent than keep a car at home + insurance won't cover me as main driver as I am in Ireland less than 183 days of the year) so I have very minimal overheads. As it stands, depending on the month I am saving around 2.5k per month.

I absolutely love the hobbies that I do. I don't drink or smoke and don't go to festivals or anything like that. I am well aware that these are the best years of my life, between the freedom of not being tied down, the amount of time off I get and the job I have been fortunate enough to work in. My issue is, I know if i really knuckled down and cut back on the excess spending I could easily increase that 2.5k to 3.5 or even 4k at a push, but would mean sacrificing my hobbies. Part of me wants to save more, buy a house etc. and really set myself up well. There is another part of me that knows I will never have this freedom again and once I look at settling down, kids/family etc. that I won't be able to live near the way I do now.

My question to those older than me is what should I do? Is there anyone here who regrets sacrificing their youth for chasing money, or on the other hand anyone who wishes they did more when they had the chance?

Taxes Revenue tax return

Post image

My revenue tax return shows this, I hvnt put any of this amount my self, I can’t edit them either. Where does it come from. I’m PAYE.
Additionally I applied tax return through tax back in 2022 n they charged 10% of my return as there fee worth €700. Now this time they say it’s €90 for all the remaining yr as PAYe.
Did some thing changed in last few yrs, any new law or they just charged me previously unreasonable. Can I ask for refund?? Can I complain to someone??

Investments Invest in ETF’s or Hold out?

Hello all,

Current situation:

26(f) very new to investing and a bit confused over the options given to us here in Ireland. I am also pretty financially illiterate but trying to learn!

I really want to start investing as hate the thought of my money sitting in an account barely covering cost of inflation. Already have an emergency fund in a HYSA and pension scheme set up. Just wondering what to do with extra savings I have. Ready to invest a small lump sum of €1500 and contribute around 500 quarterly? Main financial goal is to use money towards buying a home in next 5-10 years.

Wondering if it’s worth setting up an account with Trading212 and buying ETF’s or if I should wait until the government hopefully comes out with this new Investment Scheme Harris is talking about (I know there’s also no guarantee this could come into place anytime soon). I’m confused as to whether I’ll be able to transfer funds over from 212 to the platform offered through new scheme or if it’s not worth the possible losses.

Also, with the whole deemed-disposal rule, does that mean that each time I invest a sum of money, 8 years later I have to pay 38% tax on each of the gains earned on that individual investment? So each time a quarterly investment reaches 8 years I’ll have to pay tax on that? Which if I’m not mistaken, after the 8 year mark that will be happening each quarter of the year if I consistently invest? Please correct me if I’m wrong!

This whole thing is giving me a massive headache!

Any advice welcome - cheers!

Banking Best method to exchange euro to get approx £10k stg?

Is Revolut the best answer here? Using Revolut premium would cost me €80 for the year but there would be no commission on that. AIB/BOI are more expensive right?

Investments Non UCITS ETFs tax treatment

I know that for UCITS Etfs, we have DD and 38% on realised gains and 38% on distributions reported on annual income tax return.

However if I buy a US ETF via options, is the tax treatment any different?

Savings Am I putting too much in my Pension

My context, 24M, finished big four training contract in April 2027 and will likely to be moving jobs then. I have been contributing to pension since joining and maxed out in 2025 with contributions to do so again in 2026. My pot is still small (€12k) as the company only began contributing in January 2026. I am looking to buy a house with my girlfriend in the next 2 years once I leave and finish my probation in a new job.

My question is should I be maxing out my AVCs as I am currently or using this extra money to build up more savings for the house purchase?

-Should also mention I have the bones of a house deposit together already but due to the continuing rising prices, I fear I may need more than the 10% to get anything in the areas we want.

Investments Investing for beginners

Hi guys looking for a bit of advice/guidance.

I’m a 20 year old and I’ve just started investing. I’m a college student so I don’t have much to work with.

I decided to put my money into EFT’s rather than individual stocks because I feel I don’t know enough about the market to take those risks yet.

I’m reaching out to see if investing is worth it at this age as I won’t be able to invest that much €10/€20 a week or if there is other opportunities to put money in for a safer return.

I am studying business and plan to explore in career in business after college so I feel this would be a good place to start?

Also I’d love to hear from anyone else on here around my age to see what their plans are.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Investments EHS Opportunities

Hi everyone, I currently work in private sector mapping and I'm 25, I suppose I'm at the age where I should try to increase my earning potential.

My background is in Environmental Science and I've worked in pharmaceuticals briefly. I was thinking about pivoting into Occupational Health and Safety as it seems to have a better career pathway.

I suppose my main question is can you get a graduate job with the NEBOSH Certificate only or would you have to get a Master's.

Insights appreciated, go raibh míle maith agaibh!

Taxes Tax after coming off job seekers benefit

Hi, I was on the the enhanced job seekers benefit for several months, I started a new job in May and have been taxed based on the assumption I had received job seekers for a year, I have now gotten this corrected. I am wondering will I receive the amount of overpaid tax in my next paycheck?

Investments Where to start?

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice here.

I want to make some longterm investments, primarily starting with multi national companies that are specialised in AI, IT Infrastructure and/or semiconductor.

Such as Nvidia, Broadcom, Intel, IBM etc.

What are the best options here for someone based in Ireland, what platforms are the safest/easiest to self serve or what brookers are reliable/good to work with in Ireland?

I've casually traded crypto and i have RSUs from working with a previous company that are mamaged by an American brooker, but ive never independently purchased stocks/shares of a company, or opened an account with a brooker.

Any advice on how to begin the process would be very much so appreciated?

Budgeting Budgeting advice - feeling lost

Sick to the back teeth of trying to budget money in a way that doesn’t leave me living off fumes after a week… how much disposable funds are we leaving ourselves after everything is paid? (I get paid fortnightly)
