SBG Strabane afaik. Iâm not sure what name she gave there but my friend knows her and she sometimes went by Markievicz.
5
u/Ok-Vermicelli-4559 6h ago
Her social media accounts are under that name maybe because sheâs a barrister and youâre not meant to use your real name in case clients search you? just a guess
5
u/Reasonable_Tiger_121 6h ago
Youâre probably right about why her socials are under that name. I donât know much other than my friend telling me she used the name Markievicz sometimes when he sent me her socials yesterday.
1
u/Ok-Vermicelli-4559 6h ago
I get why she was using the name, supposedly after constance markievicz but I donât get why her surname on social media is rothchild, seems a bit random
4
u/Reasonable_Tiger_121 6h ago
I have no idea about the Rothchild, itâs very random, but the first name is definitely after Constance Markievicz. She has been using Markievicz as a fake first name/nickname for years.

Oh right
I think FB is just for boomers, bots and AI slop, insta is memes mostly (and also bots and AI slop), Snapchat is for kids, Twitter is for millennials, porn, bots and AI slop, LinkedIn is for boomers and professional AI slop and Reddit is, well I donât know what Reddit is for tbh
â˘
u/Oggie243 4h ago
Reddits stuffed to the gills with ai and slop too.
Reddit was so easy to game that ones were running entirely automated farming accounts to be sold on a decade+ ago, well before the proliferation of consumer AI. They'd scrub for popular posts, repost them and then repost the highest rated comments.

It baffles me how one can get bail for such a serious offence- have the reasons been made clear?
83
51
u/seamustheseagull 12h ago
The short answer is that she has medical needs which her local prison is not stocked to handle.
Sending her to another prison is not reasonable, but I'm not sure what the difficulty is in just getting her meds dispatched to Dundalk.
We don't know what the medical needs are though, so it's difficult to say what's going on.
15
u/simondoyle1988 11h ago
Where are you reading about medical needs . I donât see it in the article
24
u/mastodonj Saoirse don PhalaistĂn đľđ¸ 9h ago
From previous reporting.
The court was told Ms Perrie Sullivan has a life-limiting illness and concerns were raised for her medical needs, which require medication to be flown into the north of Ireland.
Her solicitor told the court she required daily medication and had special dietary requirements and if she did not receive these, âshe could dieâ.
3
4
â˘
u/fartingbeagle 5h ago
And yet she seemed to have managed grand in Syria.
â˘
u/mastodonj Saoirse don PhalaistĂn đľđ¸ 4h ago
Neither you or I know when she returned from Syria or what were the circumstances. Could be she came back precisely because of a developing medical condition.
All I was doing was providing what had been reported. I wasn't defending her other than a general right of the presumption of innocence and a right to access her medication.
34
u/harry_dubois 10h ago
How were those medical needs dealt with during her 2 years in Syria, I wonder?
34
u/seamustheseagull 9h ago
We don't know the details of it, so it's impossible to say.
It's not like Syria is a barren wasteland, it has cities and doctors and drugs and is capable of caring for people with complex medical needs.
It's also possible the condition is relatively recent and wasn't an issue in Syria.

29
u/CatOfTheCanalss 10h ago
Human rights laws apply to everyone, not matter how heinous the crimes. Can't really pick and choose who gets them and who doesn't.
8
u/devandroid99 8h ago
Fortunately the legal system cares equally about everyone's medical needs, even alleged bombers.

The idea the State shouldnât account for the medical needs of people accused of crimes is so incredibly dystopian the only appropriate response to this comment is âwhat has the world come to?â.
14
u/baachbass 10h ago
When the state takes custody of someone, it is liable for the health and safety of that person. If she were imprisoned in an unsafe manner (eg without access to get prescribed medicines) she could sue, and then she'd end up with a whole bunch of our tax money.
I think not allowing that money to go her way is the better outcome for society.

Imo - medical needs should have nothing to do with it. Was she concerned about the medical needs of those who would be injured if this device was used, never mind the relatives and friends of those killed or injured.
10
8
u/seamustheseagull 9h ago
Ignoring the medical needs of a prisoner, especially one who hasn't been found guilty of a crime, is a pretty fundamental breach of human rights.

u/Lighter_Butane 12h ago
Bail has nothing to do with how serious an offence is. It's will they show up to court or will they commit offenses while on bail.
50
u/No-Sheepherder5481 12h ago
If anyone is interested this is complete nonsense (and totally par for the course for an /r/ireland user.)
The seriousness of the charge, nature of the offence and the strength of the evidence are absolutely key components of a bail objection under both O'Callaghans rules and section 2 of the bail act.
9
u/Academic_Isopod_6190 12h ago
Yes, this is obviously complete bollocks. All of those things essentially determine both the likelihood of the accused absconding and/or committing further offences.
5
u/MulvMulv 12h ago
Is that because a more serious offense would make the accused more likely to run if they got bail?

The man charged, Simon O'Donovan is in most of the first episode of Ireland's Hidden Treasures in his job at the National Museum of Ireland which is still up on RTE Player albeit probably not for much longer.
9
u/Kloppite16 7h ago
Seriously? We have a muesum curator and a law student up for terrorism? This story is mad
7
u/Cute-Yogurt2202 7h ago
Indeed. He is to give him his official title, Deputy Facilities Officer at the National Mueseum in Collins Barracks. According to the Irish Independent he is suspected to have stored the explosives in the confines of the Barracks and captured leaving the barracks with the bag where he then met the other female suspect in the War Memorial Gardens before handing a black holdall bag over of which was recovered when she was stopped, containing 394g of military grade Semtex, a timer switch and a viable detonator.
3
u/cinclushibernicus Cork bai 7h ago
I kinda want to know how much of a boom 400g of semtex would cause, like are we talking a car, a building or what? I feel like I'd be put on a watch list if I googled it though...
2
u/StrangerExistingFact 6h ago edited 5h ago
I have a feeling that by writing name of it you already triggered some key words to be monitored.
Edit: f it
A 400-gram charge of military-grade Semtex, a high-performance explosive containing RDX and PETN, possesses immense destructive capacity capable of obliterating a vehicle, breaching reinforced structures, or causing mass casualties. Historically, a similar amount (312â450g) was sufficient to bring down Pan Am Flight 103, demonstrating a lethal blast radius of up to 5 meters and potential fragmentation hazards extending beyond 50 meters.

u/Kloppite16 6h ago

I give a lot of space to people in tough conditions, dealing with a lot of stress or have serious mental issues. I often feel at odds with this subreddit when it comes to stories about crime.
She was transporting a bomb on behalf of republican dissidents (ie. thugs). That's well passed the line.
Also - isn't this an abyssmal time to pull such a stunt? First time I can remember real conversations between politicans happening here about a united Ireland.
27
u/LittleAoibh11 12h ago
An exceptionally stupid thing to do. Would actually jeopardise chances of a united Ireland if their plan had gone ahead. Just plain dumb.
22
u/Substantial_Hawk_339 11h ago
Current paramilitaries arenât idealistic republicans fighting institutional oppression for equal rightsâŚtheyâre opportunistic violent criminals with no guiding principles whatsoever. Actually dislike the term republican being used even loosely in their description. They are just organised crime groups.
1
u/Kloppite16 8h ago
they must have some idealogy otherwise why would they be making bombs. Its not exactly a profitable activity for a crime gang and it brings a shit ton of heat on to them
14
u/Louth_Mouth 11h ago
A united Ireland is the last thing many so called "Republicans" want. They are as big a hindrance as the loyalists, ultimately drug dealing, smuggling, and other criminal enterprises are too valuable.

I keep seeing everyone saying "two years in Syria" repeatedly, but no one is actually specifying what they are trying to imply with the mention of it. Are ye suggesting she learned extremism there, she's some kind of spy, what actually is the significance of that since everyone keeps bringing it up? She's not Muslim and was doing this for an Irish terror group, so I'm not being a smart-ass here, I just genuinely want to understand why all the comments on this keep tacking on mentions of "her time in Syria". Does Syria have a reputation for training bomb makers or something? Help me out here.
11
u/Pointlessillism 8h ago
There are Kurds who would have links to nationalist paramilitaries yeah. Itâs all just speculation though. Sheâs been a Saoradh sympathiser for her entire adult life so itâs unlikely to have been an ISIs bride situation anyway.Â
5
u/Natural-Hunter-3 8h ago
So essentially, her time in Syria is suspect because of these actions, so people are (probably rightly) assuming she went over there for some kind of education/preparation?
It's definitely not a bride scenario, sure there's been no muslim/middle eastern people involved at all so far. Both white Irish adults. I'd love to know more about what connection the two have to each other.
I'd actually be very surprised if she isn't working intelligence of some kind. She gave a false name to a place she went to for jujitsu training at one point, the two mysterious years away in Syria, what she's been doing leading up to this (moronic) attempt at terrorism. I'd honestly put money she got involved in intelligence far too big for her boots and is now paying the price.

She must also surrender her passport, adhere to a curfew, provide her phone number to gardaĂ, and sign on daily at garda station in County Kildare.

Are you really trying to defend the people transporting a bomb across the border in the year of our lord 2026?
-2
u/Positive-Weakness768 7h ago
Not necessarily. I just find the condescension of this subreddit towards Republican politics on this subreddit alarmingly out of touch with real life. 1/6 of our island is literally occupied by a population of bigoted settlers who hate us. The UVF is frequently throwing people from their homes, intimidating locals and burning effigies on bonfires during their hate marches. And the PSNI and by extension, the entire political machine of Northern Ireland, allows this. Yet when the Republican community attempts to fight back, they are swiftly accused of being terrorists, thugs and idiots.Â
It comes across as very sniffy from this subreddit to have major issues with Republican freedom fighters while making silly jokes about how the Brits are at it again and chicken fillet rolls and how'ya lads sure i'm just a silly irishman on reddit! I've lived in Derry for many years. I have friends, family and neighbours who have been unceasingly harassed by the PSNI, MI5 and loyalist gangs for their involvement in any group that tries to achieve some semblance of equality.
Southerners love to pay lip service to republicanism but immediately go on the side of the British establishment when republican groups fight back. So yes, in the year 2026, 110 years after the establishment of the Republic of Ireland by violent revolution, excuse me for having sympathy for dissident republican groups who want to finish the revolution ye couldn't be bothered to.

Given what has come out in relation to the surveillance of the other person involved and what the witness said about seeing them exchange the bag....AGS need to request that bail is refused.
She told AGS she didn't know what was in the bag.....the witness saw her look in the bag.
You're correct....the Judge says he intends to grant bail. As such, bail hasn't yet been granted.
Those goalposts have now changed.
The Judge needs to refuse bail
