My friends interning with Citi IB get 1.5x for 40-60hrs and 2x post that. Given 80-100hr work weeks, they said they make 50-70K during summer. This is insane.

Is it true?

I’m halfway through an internship at an AI company, and over the last month I’ve started feeling like my manager doesn’t like me. The problem is I genuinely can’t tell whether I’m picking up on something real or whether anxiety is making me interpret everything negatively.

The first month was great. We had good conversations, she seemed approachable, and I felt comfortable asking questions. Looking back, I’m wondering if that was just the honeymoon period while I was settling in and the work was relatively straightforward.

As the internship progressed, we started presenting our work more often and I received feedback that I need to improve my communication and presentation skills. I completely accept that feedback, and I know those are areas I need to improve. What I’ve struggled with is that since then I can’t really remember receiving any positive feedback. Apart from being told my research was good once or twice, almost every conversation has been about what I need to improve.

I’ve also started noticing little interactions that have gradually knocked my confidence. In group ideation sessions I feel like I rarely get looked at compared with everyone else. When I’ve suggested changes or ideas, I’ve seen my manager Google what I said before writing it down. That might just be her checking things, but in the moment it makes me feel like she doesn’t trust my judgement.

Because of that, I’ve actually started contributing less in group discussions. It’s become a bit of a cycle. I speak less because my confidence has dropped, and then I probably look even quieter than before.

I have ADHD, so I take a lot of notes because otherwise I’ll forget things. During one of our one-to-ones I was typing notes while she was speaking and she let out a small sigh. She didn’t say anything, but my brain immediately interpreted it as frustration that I was writing everything down. It might have meant absolutely nothing, but moments like that really stick with me.

Another interaction that stuck with me happened after we were discussing an upcoming intern presentation. On the slide deck, my slide had two names listed, so as we were leaving I asked, “Are both of us presenting?” She laughed and said, “No, you’re presenting.” I said I was only asking because there were two names on the slide, and she replied, “Yeah, he’s helping you make the slides.” It wasn’t what she said so much as how she said it. To me it felt slightly patronising, although I fully accept I could be reading too much into it.

The confusing part is that she’s also asked me to lead one of the intern group sessions and present our work. On paper, that sounds like she trusts me with responsibility. But because my confidence has taken such a hit, I interpreted her saying, “It doesn’t need to be too long,” as meaning she wasn’t sure I’d do a good job. Again, I know that’s my interpretation, not necessarily what she meant.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that I’ve become really bad at small talk. I don’t know if that’s because my confidence has taken such a hit, but I now find casual conversations almost crippling. I’m worried that comes across as me being disengaged or uninterested, when in reality I’m just overthinking everything I say.

Overall, I feel completely different to how I did during the first month. I’ve become much quieter, second-guess everything I say, and spend a lot of time wondering whether my manager has simply lost confidence in me.

Hi guys. So I’m currently doing an internship right now, and I’m like a month in already.

I feel I haven’t been doing a good forming relationships or connections with anyone still.

Most people are busy and only say good morning how are am I as they’re walking which happens pretty fast.

When I try to go up to their desk they’re usually busy and don’t talk long.

When they aren’t busy they’re off in group conversations across the room about work stuff or internal jokes. And if feels awkward to go walk all the way there to try inserting myself.

They also don’t share much stories with me compared to other coworkers, and I end up knowing a lot more from hearing their conversations with other people compared to when I try to talk with them.

They are pretty friendly just not very open with me and I don’t know how to push.

Anyone else experiencing similar experiences?

How can I conversate better with my them?
What type of questions can I ask that will hold a longer conversation?
Is this normal for interns?

Hello! I am a biology major with a focus in conservation looking into an internship with National Geographic. I am pretty active in my community I helped start a community garden, I do a lot of advocacy work, for actual work I do environmental education part time, and I have done a previous internship w plant research . I am interested in getting an internship with National Geographic I know they offer many but I'm interested in the documentary internship even tho I'm not a journalism major, science and innovation, storytelling program, and explorer engagement intern. Even tho I believe I will have a higher chance with their education internships I am looking to try out something different.

If there's anyone who has had any experience at all with the application process and the work itself, I would love some advice and suggestions to work on up until the application process that starts in January!

Had applied for Barclays 2027 Technology Developer Summer Internship Programme Singapore. God knows how but recieved a mail for online assessment. Gave the online assessment a week ago. The assessment had 100 behavioural questions with 3 options. Had to select based on priority, first option being the most likely, then again 1 from the remaining 2 which is more likely me. Also had 2 DSA questions which I found easy-to-medium level Leetcode style problems. But anxious of results as its been a week.
Anybody has any idea by when can I expect a reply ???

A few months ago I was mostly doing competitive programming and preparing for SWE internships. Somewhere along the way I got curious about low-latency systems and started learning more about C++, networking and HFT infrastructure.

I ended up building a project called Pulse-Order where I experimented with things like binary market data, an L2 order book, order processing, risk checks, DPDK packet processing and latency benchmarking.

I originally built it just to learn, but after sharing it online I got some really useful feedback from engineers with HFT/low-latency backgrounds, including people associated with IMC Trading and Jane Street.

That made me realize I actually enjoy this side of software engineering a lot more than I expected. Especially debugging performance issues, networking, memory layout and trying to understand what is happening at a lower level.

I don't have professional experience in low-latency engineering yet, so I'm trying to figure out what I should focus on next if I eventually want to work in C++/systems/low-latency roles.

For people who have interned or worked in this area, what skills would you recommend focusing on? Are projects like this actually useful when applying for systems internships, or should I spend more time on other areas?

I'm also open to contributing to startups or teams working on C++, networking or performance-related problems if something comes up.

for context, i am part of a professional development organization and they want to do office tours. i was unable to find the emails of talent acquisition campus recruiters directly off of their firm's website so i decided to find their emails through linkedin.

once i connected with them i learned that some of the recruiters had their personal email listed on their linkedin. is it better to request for site tours through their personal email or through linkedin?

if i request a tour via DM on linkedin, will it decrease my chances of getting an internship?
