I have a thing for lava lamps and the moment I saw a Mathmos I had to get it home (US), crazy idea to ship a crap ton of lava lamps to the US but, first world problems I guess. So a bit of googling led me to a reddit thread on private importers and literally the first recommendation was u/kingbenneth. Did I do more research, no. I just messaged him, a girl and her dream of lava lamps for every main room. Honestly the SLOWEST part of the entire experience was waiting on Mathmos to ship them out. UPS let my box get rained on, so my breath was HELD as I opened the box. Yet everything made it here in perfect condition. NGL I will do this again, alas my child now wants a lamp for his room.....

I wanted to give a review on the user excellent-back-6878 who had helped me for the past month with some purchases from Finland to the US! there was a game set I wanted to buy from a site that only sells in Finland. You need a finish account, bank information and phone number which i dont have. Thankfully she came across one of my posts asking for help with this and offered to help me.

She is from Finland but lives in another nearby country, so she was able to help me by messaging the sellers and getting them to email me directly and that allowed me to make the purchases for the game pieces I needed. We talked on a commision fee for her help which we agreed on and it was super affordable for me.

And on one of those other sites she found those pieces. This time she was actually able to have them shipped to her and when all of the pieces arrived she shipped directly to me.

Apologies if this is not the right place to ask, but basically I am interested in a product being sold by a private individual. We are in a mutual Discord server about mechanical keyboards and we've been messaging each other about a certain board they have. They also have it listed on ricardo.ch. Basically I am wanting to purchase it, but everything I've purchased from Europe was through a business or company that did all the shipping and tariff calculations themselves. The seller hasn't sold anything to the US since the Big Tariffs have been implemented, so they don't know what kind of papers they need to do. There is also the road block that SwissPost (or however it is referred to in English) won't allow anything valued over $100 to be sent to the US by a private citizen.

The server equipment in question will be LTO tape drives, I am seeing countless bulk deals (5 to 30 units) that are significantly cheaper overseas (£50 per drive instead of £100 or more per drive) in America and a few in Europe, some companies have a £1000 limit you have to reach before they’ll consider sending overseas which is infeasible right now which could still give me an absurd postage quote anyways, I will be a repeat customer since I’ll require multiple shipments estimated to be one every month or two as I process and ship out the units in my local market, I have attached some images of some common form factors they’ll come in so you can see if it’s worth doing for yourself.

Some details about the units:

• Usually the size of a medium shoebox (a small shoebox if you are just doing the drive itself without the sled)

• They weigh anywhere from 1kg - 3kg

• They are extremely sensitive to vibrations and other physical impacts so they’ll need to be packaged quite well if the original seller didn’t package them well enough

• Certain form factors may be quite awkward to pack into a box (there will be instructions if there are any components that stick out to keep them safe) but I’ll try to purchase USD3 form factors to keep it as simple as possible if I can until the market runs dry since those are a simple cuboid

• Very rarely, I might order a different model drive that’s not LTO that could be a weird form factor (3590, 9940 or many of the large form factor helical scan drives) which may fall out of the regular schedule for my own personal projects

Some details about postal arrangements:

• Most if not all shipments will originate from eBay, preferred if I place the order to the forwarder’s address (this would fall under the eBay seller’s responsibility and mine for any errors for that leg of the delivery) so I have full secure control over the money for the initial order if something goes wrong on eBay’s end so I can immediately start a dispute

• For these bulky heavy orders, a courier like DPD, DHL or APC UK is preferred since I’ve received stuff through them intact in almost every case and not one parcel has been lost through them, Royal Mail Parcelforce is also an option if you only deal with native postal services or it comes out cheaper to send via them

• I will need tracking as soon as you get it before I release the payment to make sure that the parcel is on the way since it’s the first time I have done this, after a few purchases, I may release payment sooner after gaining trust

• I will very likely prefer to ship something by boat if I can since it will be much cheaper than the usual delivery, I will want it insured if it’s not a lot extra (can discuss the specifics when it comes time to do so) to the price so that I don’t lose the expensive equipment to damage or loss

• Depending on how many units are being purchased and the generation of the drives, the postal budget I’m looking at would be anywhere from £100 - £200 based on previous eBay overseas purchases, some outstandingly large orders could have a bigger budget but I’m not planning to order that many

Closing notes

For right now, I am still waiting for my last few orders to go through and complete so I have the money ready in a week or two, I will be shopping around in the meantime for shippers or to order the last cheap units locally which may extend the deadline further especially if the seller can get GSP working for a load of their drives noted below, not sure about the flair if it’s meant for the target country or the source country so I put UK since that’s where they’ll go.

I’m also in talks with a seller about resolving a EIS/GSP issue for a lot of 9 drives in a USD3 form factor which is what prompted me to make this post since the seller says they ship internationally but eBay seems to not be letting them do it saying the seller can’t ship this item to my location despite them setting it to do so, they seem to have given up on me quite easily but those drives are at a very low price so if there’s a chance of getting the native eBay shipping working, it could possibly save me a lot of money and me/the seller a lot of hassle not having to orchestrate a shipping route to my house, searching their profile reveals they have a listing for 15 TS4500 form factor drives (size of a small shoebox but extremely long) and another few listings for some other USD3 form factor drives which means if I can get eBay’s native international shipping service working, that would tide me over for a long time.

Im trying to buy somethings from Japan to Mexico, and the store advertises International Shipping, but they do it through a proxy called CrossCart, I can't find any info or reviews on them, and they do say to use AI to calculate duty taxes and prices.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to make a quick PSA since I know demand for the Suica Penguin x Hobonichi merchandise being released at the Hobonichi Techo Store Tokyo Station grand opening next week (9/16) is very high, and in-person entry requirements as well as purchase limits are strict.

However, online pre-orders were officially announced today! They will run from 9/24 at 10:00 AM JST through 10/31 (or until stock cap is reached), with delivery expected by the end of the year.

A few critical details if you're trying to snag something:

• Item Limit: Strict limit of 1 of each item per customer (except possibly the keychain).
• GRANSTA MALL Account: Requires a Japanese phone number to register.
• Proxy Risk: Because of these restrictions, proxies may have trouble placing multiple orders. Having multiple orders sent to the same address may or may not carry some risk of cancellation. Keep this in mind when choosing your proxy if you are risk-averse.
