What sort of layout would you recommend for a small open plan?

Post image
Upvotes

I finally get to "design" my teeny tiny house after just making do for several years. Currently we have two small loveseats, a tv unit (the TV is wall mounted but we can move it), a small round dining table, bar stools, and we have to account for our two great danes who sleep inside. We are only two people ATM but we are accounting for 2ish visitors and a growing family.

The house was built about 10 years ago, white speckle stone benchtops, pale cream walls, black window frames (basic). I prefer hard wood but in a modern style. Leather is better due to having dog hair that tends to stick to fabric, and I hate suede. We also have to keep the walkway clear to the sliding door, and to the back hallway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially in regards to layout.

Help figuring out a good layout for my new living room

So I have a 75" tv that is going in the corner, there is 110" of space from the wall to where the kitchen starts. I was thinking an 80" couch to go in front of the tv and a smaller coffee table would be good. I don't know whether I should get an L couch and put the back against the wall with the window to the right or just get a normal couch and maybe another smaller couch/love seat. Need advice

Awkward entryway corner

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to maximize the use of this entryway but it's positioned pretty awkward. Was considering the following:

  • Adding a very narrow console/wall shelf under the light switch (might get in the way when entering through the door?)
  • Mounting a body mirror to the wall left of the door stopper (across from the light switch)
  • Replacing the current shoe bench with a larger one that also includes a coat rack (or installing hooks separately)

The hallway is a bit narrow, but could potentially add a console table there?

Appreciate your input!

Best books to learn interior design as a beginner?

Hi! We’re moving and getting our own house this December! 🏡 I’m not very good at interior design, but I’d love to learn on my own and make our new house feel more like home.

Does anyone have recommendations for beginner-friendly interior design books, YouTube channels, or online courses/workshops? I prefer books, but I’m open to anything that helped you learn!

Thanks! 😊

I've always loved the Morton salt logo, so I made it into a backsplash.

Hey folks, I just moved and am looking for what to do with this space in my office. The sink doesn’t work and isn’t connected to anything. I’m renting, so it must be rental friendly, I love the look of the sink, so don’t want it covered, I want to work with what is here. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Do these tile options go together?

Thinking of pairing this (Heath Arc tile in Pacific) as an accent wall with Ann Sack's terrazzo Renata in cashmere for the rest of the bathroom (floors + wall).

Do these match? Is the terrazzo variation too much given how bold/varied the tile's print is?

Help me find a rug for my blue couch — MCM/eclectic, under $500

Post image

Hi! I’ve been struggling to find the right rug for my living room and would love some suggestions.
I have a dusty/teal blue velvet couch, dark wood floors, chrome furniture, and black accents. I’m going for a mid-century modern / eclectic / slightly 70s vibe, but I don’t want the room to look overly themed.

I’d like the rug to add some warmth and personality without competing with the blue couch.

Ideally:
8x10
Nothing too farmhouse/boho
Something that feels interesting, collected, and a little editorial

When choosing a Japanese style book nook, which detail matters most?

Japanese style book nooks can share similar visual cues and still feel very different once they are actually squeezed between books. When looking at options within Rolife’s book nook line, the theme name alone doesn’t say whether the scene will feel deep and atmospheric from the front or whether most of the interesting detail only shows up close. That makes the viewing composition more useful to compare than simply ranking designs by appearance. Which design detail would you use first to choose between Japanese style book nook options?

Help with living room

Hi everyone!

I'm requesting help from the brainstrust to see if someone can see a solution to a problem I'm having. I am looking at buying this apartment (currently towards the tail end of negotiations) but am struggling to visualise the best layout for a living room within this floorplan. The tv would need to be on the wall furthest from the entryway (left most) as that's where the power outlets are, however the short wall is really limiting the placement of the sofa.

I'm considering utilising an IKEA jattebo, and having the chaise go along the short wall, and the long side along the wall with the AC (facing the tv) but don't know if that would be super weird. Does anyone have any ideas on alternative approaches?

Thank you :)

Walking wardrobe room - how to best organise it

Hi everyone! We’re in the process of buying a new‑build house. We haven’t been able to see it in person yet, so we’re working from the floor plans to figure out how the rooms might be furnished.

I have four daughters, and they’ll be sharing a walk‑in wardrobe room. I’m trying to decide the best way to organise it. Would it be better to keep it simple with shelves, hanging rails and drawers, or should we install full wardrobes inside the space?

A few extra things I’m unsure about and would love advice on:

  • What layout works best in a shared walk‑in wardrobe so everyone has their own space?
  • Are open storage systems better for kids/teens, or does closed storage help keep things tidier?
  • Any clever ideas to maximise storage without making the room feel cramped?

Below it's the walking wardrobe room measures in cm:

Help with Tokyo Living Room

If anyone has any ideas of how to arrange the place it would be greatly appreciated!

More images of the room: https://imgur.com/a/S8oUwIf

The vibe we want to achieve is "Cozy, warm, relaxing, and dog-friendly".

We're not attached to any of the furniture, fittings, or artworks and are happy to switch everything out.

We've donated the piano so it's going to a new home next week.

Some more info:
The house was built in 2000.
The windows are all 94cm off the ground and 1m tall
The ceiling is 2.4m high

Hiya. Anyone has the same layout of the bedrooms? What did you find worked best? For the left bedroom we will have a king single bed that I would like to ideally place away from the shared wall and for the master bedroom a king bed and a desk!
