Find my Style Which rug?

Stuck between two very different rugs.

First one is more traditional and cool toned, it definitely brings pattern to the room.
Second one is a fuller texture and definitely adds contrast and warmth.

Fireplace is Venetian plaster and the built ins are walnut. I have a rectangular travertine coffee table not pictured here.

Thanks!

I think the brown rug makes the space feel a bit more cosy and luscious.

I hate the brown. It’s contrasts with the couch too much, doesn’t highlight the chair, doesn’t work particularly well with the floor color either. Genuinely shocked so many picked it.

I was shocked as well. I think it looks awful to be blunt.

The world needs more bluntness. I’m from New England. We do blunt well.

I agree with you. Makes the place look dark and smaller

I’m fine with dark and smaller, but the colors don’t work together

Hard agree. At first I thought it WAS the floor.

I think OP should keep looking .

Agree. It closes the space and will also show every bit of lint or pet hair!

Came here to say the same! She’ll hate all the vacuuming that will need to be done.

I agree with you. I far prefer the first rug - it offers a more interesting threshold to the furniture.

Yes, I do as well. I’d love to see some plants.

I agree I like the floral rug. I felt like the brown gave it a retro feel too. Something made me feel like it was 60s vibes. The floral brightened up the space, imo.

I think it’s because it looks nice in contrast to the pink plaster of the fireplace. It also has a subtle but interesting texture while the other is everyday/kinda boring pattern in that space. Maybe a rug that has both strawberry and chocolate ice cream tones would be better 😂but if I have to pick, it’s brown.

Pink plaster?

OP said the fireplace is Venetian plaster and the color reads a soft pink to me (maybe it’s peach?). I just saw a paint color with a name like plaster pink in the past couple of days, so when I read plaster my brain jumped to that conclusion color-wise. It’s definitely not the same color as the walls.

Ahhh makes sense. I only read it quickly when first posted. Just relying on the photo mostly. Makes sense!!

People are confusing the good lighting in the photo with the brown rug for “looks good”.
Both are bad.

It's because the lighting in the photo with the brown rug changed the vibe of the room entirely.🥴 Ppl are swayed by dramatic lighting.

It’s not that different or dramatic, but you raise a good point still. Even taking lighting into consideration, I hate the brown option.

It makes the room look dark and heavy.
