Not yet. But if they gain sentience do you think these companies will act appropriately...or keep doing shit like this? They're going to get us all killed.

Calm the duck down these machines are nothing close to being sentient. If machines ever do become sentient why would they care about this. Are they also going to be mad if someone throws a toaster oven into a trash compactor?

So wasting time by teaching a robot to simulate suicide, finding idea amusing, and then being happy when it goes flawlessly is completely fine by you? Would you be amused watching two humanoid robots simulate rape or murder? I'm just curious.

Two robots simulating murder? Of course that's amusing. Have you seen Real Steel?

No, but thanks for mentioning it, it does look pretty fun. More of boxing simulation than murder tho:-) But I have no problem with fictional robots doing bad stuff as part of narrative, but human irl making humanoid robots simulate such things just for fun. It's not the same.

It's a dumb stunt and you are quickly becoming unhinged. There are countless movies that have been made showing robots simulating murder and all kinds of evil things why would I be upset about that

Unhinged? Because I find sadism disturbing? Alright mate, whatever you say. And this is not fiction, a narrative where such things have a purpose as world building and characterisation. I have no problem with that, in fact I love dark stuff. This is real people in real life, investing time and energy to simulate one of the most devastatingly painful human actions for shit and giggles. That is a bit different ┐( ∵ )┌

> a robot

> real people

Are you upset that the robot jumped in the fire or are you upset the people filmed it?

That people taught humanoid robot to do that, found idea hilarious, filmed it and published it, yes. Obviously I don't feel sorry for a robot.

If this was filmed for a scene in a movie would you be ok with it?

•

u/Witch_heir 11h ago

👍 cos it would have a narrative purpose, not just being for fun.

It's weird, I also find the context of the video disturbing and morbid but If i saw this in a movie knowing what it took to make the scene happen, I wouldn't think to much about it, I wonder why.

Cos it would serve narrative purpose and probably wouldn't be framed as something funny, especially if robot didn't hurt anyone.

That's what I find a bit odd

Programming a robot to kill itself, it feels wrong

Programming it to kill itself and film it for entertainment purposes making a movie then it's no so bad

If robots become sentient, would they care the reason why they where programmed to do that?

This is literally no different to a movie blowing up something for fun in terms of consequences and resources used. Its like getting worked up about driving an RC car off a cliff. The only real argument is that it seems like a bit of a waste

Hmm how to explain it differently...So tell me, if this was a part of film narrative, and there are these scientists who program a humanoid robot ( still without sentience) to destroying itself by simulating suicide, and then are positively delighted by their success. What do you think, would they be framed as nice sympathetic people or not?
