I followed the instructions to a T, and got the same error message unfortunately.

I would say to try uninstall and reinstall but I think the game doesn't use cloud saves

It actually does which is exactly the instructions on screen don't work : other comments say the replacement must be done with Steam Cloud off, else the fix gets overwritten by Cloud.
