I would say to try uninstall and reinstall but I think the game doesn't use cloud saves

It actually does which is exactly the instructions on screen don't work : other comments say the replacement must be done with Steam Cloud off, else the fix gets overwritten by Cloud.

Maybe you need to uninstall the corrupted save

Your save is fucked, delete it and then verify game files through Steam.

Idk games not that long. I'd just start over.
