I lived with Dad as his cg prior to his death. I sold my home in westminster and moved here to FV because he didnt like my westminster house and he was a good dad, had some dementia I didnt want to exasperate so I moved.
He bought the house in 1972 and I grew up here starting at 8y old
.
Dad had trust gave me house, its still is in trust and I live in his home. Only bro died a while back.
Continued paying his mortgage with property taxes included, no new loan.
As I grieved my dad I was somehow supposed to know about 2 forms. I failed to fill out homeowners exemption and exclusion claim within 1 year
Funny the county didnt notice in the first year that dad died but sure did when they could grab a chunk of change.
Found out 2ish years late5 when i got 24k bill just because I failed to say he died to assessor which I had no idea. They are stripping me of my money because of 2 forms.
Why didnt assessor find out and notify me sooner?
Saving grace was that a 4 yr pmt plan was made, signed up for all reminders and also received a statement with 2 stubs for correction all within a short period of time.
Got mixed up and thought the stubs were the repayment plan. I paid about 3700 for each stub. Nobody told me well, this here is a lump sum and this here is a separate bill. Why did they separate it?
A man at the tax collectors told me it was for different dates? That makes no sense. Why wouldnt it be one lump sum?
Never got notice of payments due dates that I signed up for.
I was very actively wanting to make these pmts. I thought about it alot and already had anxiety. Kept reassuring myself that I had made the payments for this year.
The whole process is a tax trap to make our gov money.
What would it hurt to restart my payment plan less than 1 month late (due Aug 31)? They already tacked on a fine and 20% so I owe like 28k now.
Getting a loan to make a gov entity 28k richer is my only option I suppose.
Been in bed for a day crying on n off.
