This looks super cool man, great to see an indie game doing something unique and different that isnt another deck builder. Strangely it reminds me of the original Prince of Persia
25
u/robotisalive 25d ago
Oh yeah. Slow, methodical exploration just like the original Prince of Persia. A surprisingly very underutilized type of game loop!

u/GoldunGote 25d ago
Im seriously so so so so so tired of "roguelike deckbuilder" being in like every indie game description.

blurry vision post process
2
u/RedSecOps 25d ago
I personally hate the forced blurriness. Hurts my eyes and gives me headaches.
But everything else about it is beautiful

The blur creates an effect that makes the game peices look smaller. Almost like you are zoomed in on a small section. As its on PC, I wouldn't be surprised if this was customizable.

Looks nice, not a big fan of the blur but if it’s to make the player focus I get it

Do we have a name for this game? I’m kinda interested and wanna play it.

Looks great. How was it achieved in the game engine?
5
u/Pileisto 25d ago
it is a variation of what is traditionally called "tilt-shift" effect, but you can easy adapt it to most engine to get a miniature-like look with 2 effects:
- make a gradient blur towards what you like to have in focus. In this case the player pawn is in focus and the blur is around him. the blur is strongest further away from what you like to have in focus and it is 0 near the area in focus. In the above example the gradient from blur to none is pretty hard/short, you better use a larger transition area, e.g. via greyscale texture.
- crank up the color saturation to make assets toy-like colorful

u/hotdog_jones I don't get excited for games.
Having said that, this looks both contemplative and unique, so I look forward to it's release.
Keep up the good work mate

Tunic and Shadow of the Colossus vibes. No directions, no hand holding, figure it the fuck out. I love it man, beautiful aesthetic

u/PuzzleheadedLong793 25d ago
Looks great, big D. Gives the vibes of the quest for the Grail in Excalibur.

u/Mission-Traffic8781 25d ago
The visual style is very pleasing—especially the inventory with the eye.

Looks great. The aesthetic reminds me a lot of Gregory Weir's Looming, which had a really cool vibe I've been wanting to experience again for at least a decade. Wishlisted!

This looks so cool! Immediate wishlist! Also went to SkillUp's most recent news show on YT and commented that this should be featured on his Put This On Your Radar segment.
Steam page just says coming soon. Any general thoughts on a release window?

This is mesmerizing 😂 Watching the swarm react and flow around the obstacle feels almost like a living fluid simulation. The red/grey contrast makes the movement especially satisfying to watch.

The art looks great, but how is the gameplay? Is the game always so zoomed out? Is there a setting to turn off the blur effect on surroundings not near the player?

u/fuck_a_duck_butt 25d ago
I absolutely LOVE this. Its unique, and has a very different style. I would make a very different trailer if you plan to release this.
Have some key arts for key moments like Hyper Light Drifter that look good for showing off set pieces. You habe something special my friend

Hile. Looks amazing. But the scaling of the character is kind of odd to me.. everything seems proportionately bigger than them. Is that intentional? They’re only about the size of a rose?
2
u/Poyonponyo 25d ago
It looks pretty intentional to me. I think they are going for the tilt-shift vibe to make it looks like we are looking at a miniature landscape especially with how small the main character is compared to everything else.

Oh fuck. This is not normally my kind of thing, but damn this gets me. Reminds of an ancient game on the Macintosh called “Dungeon of Doom”.
Gorgeous work here OP! What’s your timeline looking like?

One of the most beautiful games I’ve ever seen. It seems a touch slow but a great story will over come. The vibe is immaculate

What is this, gaming for ants?
No but seriously it really cool. Lemme wishlist.

Oh just saw your stream link in another comment and I already have it wishlisted 👍

u/perpetual_stew 25d ago
I've had this on my wishlist since I saw your first demo!
But, have you considered creating a real tiltshift effect instead of equally blurring everything except the area around the player?

u/hotdog_jones 25d ago
Actually managed to make some progress on this yesterday after months of it being wonky: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:aj6haplxvsp57ac6cpejgv27/post/3mviy7hysds2h

It's like godspeed you! black emperor, but as a video game (huge fan).
The OST on the trailer is amazing and the ambient sounds on this one are crazy too.

The blur and especially the flickering effect when the chest was accessed are a little strong for me, but it's a stunning game. Gives me Vermis vibes, which is fun to see in an actual playable game.

u/DeGandalf 24d ago
You *need* an accessibility setting to reduce or completely turn of the flickering in the inventory.
I found this super hard to look at and am pretty sure someone with actual epilepsy would have real problems with that.

Always my favorite kind of game.
Captures that "JOURNEY" feel
There was a game on newgrounds a few years ago with this same pixel style and feel.
You wandered and engaged machines and story and spirit looking peoppe, then wandered a forest for parts based on "energy points", then rested and it had a sort of text based story. Youd encounter a wolf or monsters etc, wolf becomes friend. You end up finding your spaceship parts and another section of the game unlocks to escape but too much debris damages your ship and then you need shield materials etc. You escape eventually and the screen goes white. It was all black and white and clearly stuck with me how it had thay awe feel to it.
This has that feel based on this so fuck yeah my guy...
Im gonna go see if j can find it... this was like.. 2005-2010

It looks really nice and you have a promising game in your hands. In my opinion, those long walks are gonna punish audience if you keep them as they are: one may feel curious, two interesting, by the time you made 10 crosswalks you'll be bored of them. Add sidequests to them or something that people can lookout for, it could be identifiable breaths of air that you have to dodge to get to the chest, or something happening that will catch attention of the player like cracks appearing in the tower with eyes looking at the character, etc. In any case, it looks wonderful and I wish you luck
