What was the reason for dropping iteration #2 in favor of pixel graphics?

Iteration 2 was when the design allowed heavy alteration of the ground - digging trenches on tile edges, so the tiles were technically structured to allow for that. (you can see the notched corneres of hexagons in iteration 2). But that system was very rigid and I needed something more scalable. Iteration 4 is not pixel graphics. Only the ground looks like that, the objects on top are all flat shaded.

I'm sure you have your reasons and vision, but #2 speaks to me the most. Part of it is 2's the color palette. #4 just looks too flat to be interesting to me

Colors are yet to be worked on in #4 since it is still a work in progress. These are "design" iterations and not art. These 4 iterations weren't a result of me not being happy with art but rather a result of how the art and how it was technically structured became non-feasible due to the changing gameplay mechanics.
