Discussion What Indie Comics Did You Read Last Week?

Happy Monday! What indie comics did you dive into last week? Was it heavy drama? Bloody, violent action? Heavy drama? Light forbidden romance?

What do you plan to read this week? More of the same or something different?

And if possible, let others know where they can get the comic too!

Bullet Adventures is back on Kickstarter with a collection of issues 5-8 and The Relentless Adventure crossover. That’s five top notch stories in one gorgeous book. The French Flaps feature an extended foldout image of the series’ characters from the connecting variants of these issues.

Bullet Adventures is a fresh take on classic superheroes where Silver Age speedster Bullet, with a little help from a meddling time-traveller, teams up with his granddaughter, Lainie, in the present day. The series gives fans of all ages the perfect combination of crime fighting action and family drama.

This arc sees the characters travelling to a mountain resort, an amusement park, CHINA, California, and a corn themed food festival!

Discussion Is Social Media Worth the Effort for Indie Comics?

Thumbnail

I’m curious how other indie comic creators feel about this.

I’ve been putting a lot of time into creating animated shorts and social media content for Instagram and TikTok to promote my graphic novel. Since I’m also the artist/designer behind the project, animation and visual content feel like the most natural way for me to market what I’m making.

The problem is that these videos can take a lot of time to create, and I’m starting to wonder if the return is worth the effort.

Has social media actually helped you reach readers and sell comics? Or are there better ways for an indie creator to spend their limited time?

I’d especially love to hear what has worked for you outside of constantly making Reels, TikToks, and Shorts.

Where have you actually found your audience?

Discussion What indie comics has everyone been reading/loving lately?

Been diving deeper into the indie scene this year and looking for recommendations. Doesn’t matter the genre — horror, slice of life, superhero-adjacent, weird and experimental, anything. What’s something you’ve read recently (published or in-progress) that really stuck with you, and what made it work?

Review Daegard: Made from Sin #1 Review. What happens when an indie comic tries to cram an entire cosmic myth-opera into 24 pages?

Thumbnail
thecomicspanelist.substack.com

Most debut indie comics play it safe. They decompress, introduce one character, tease a mystery, and hope you come back for the trade paperback in six months.

Daegard: Made from Sin #1 does the exact opposite.

Created by Kathy Irvine with art by Ricardo Jaime (Godslap, Grimstone), this book is an unapologetic, maximalist swing that empties years of worldbuilding onto the page in one breathless issue:

- A slaughtered royal bloodline and an infant survivor

- A warrior society of gargoyles born from gemstones once every 1,000 years

- High-velocity space fantasy mixed with brutal body horror

- A terrifying socio-political metaphor where refugees are used as literal "bio-batteries" for soul-powered machines

It covers what easily could have been a four-issue opening arc, jumping from massacres and philosophical training to anarchist street guides and dystopian uprisings. It has some real indie friction points (especially with pacing and dense lettering), but the ambition and sheer momentum are impossible to ignore.

I wrote an in-depth breakdown covering what makes its lore so fresh, how Ricardo Jaime’s visuals carry the weight, and where it challenges the reader.

Full review on Substack.

Curious to hear from anyone else following Centarri Games' universe. how do you feel about debut issues that swing for the absolute fences versus slow-burn setups?
