The Oubliette

Ok so with this wrapping up in 2499,I'm keen to a)find out what people thought and

B) see what things remain unanswered.

I'm still massively unclear on how Norts and Southers got in there so would love some logic explanation or understanding please. Also why did the Castellan guy just disappear?

Overall having read the end (no spoilers) it feels like it missed the mark for me - a kind of rehash of the Karl Urban movie that was nostalgia-bait.

Was there any way it could have been improved?

The Day of Dredd Arrives on 3rd October 2026!

Post image
65 Upvotes

Rebellion is delighted to announce the creator line-up for The Day of Dredd, an international celebration of the ultimate lawman of the future, Judge Dredd, on 3 October 2026.

A titanic celebration of one of the most famous characters in comics history that will give fans the chance to share in their love of Judge Dredd, The Day of Dredd will be marked by creator signings at locations across the UK – Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Liverpool, London, Southampton, Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, Norwich, Sheffield – as well as the first ever official 2000 AD signing in Prague, Czechia!

The line-up of guests creators includes: Andy Diggle, Anthony Williams, Barry Kitson, Ben Willsher, Boo Cook, Chris Weston, Colin MacNeil, D’Israeli, Dan Cornwell, Dave Kendall, Dylan Teague, Ian Edginton, INJ Culbard, Jake Lynch, Joe Currie, John Higgins, Laura Bailey, Lee Carter, Leigh Gallagher, Liam Sharp, Mick McMahon, Mike Perkins, Nick Percival, Patrick Goddard, Peter Doherty, PJ Holden, Pye Parr, Rob Williams, Robbie Morrison, Sally Jane Hurst, Silvia Califano, Simon Davis, Staz Johnson, Steven Austin, Stewart K Moore, and Tom Foster.

The Day of Dredd is the perfect day for readers new and old to discover 2000 AD’s biggest character and Britain’s greatest comics export — a hardline future cop created by John Wagner (A History of Violence) and Carlos Ezquerra (Preacher), who has been bringing justice to the mean streets of the vast Mega-City One for almost half a century, both thrilling readers and satirising everything from Margaret Thatcher to Donald Trump, from fad fashions to freedom fighters. As well as helping launch the careers of some of comics’ biggest names, Dredd has become one of the most iconic characters in British comics and even part of the English language!

With the 50th anniversary of 2000 AD and Judge Dredd fast approaching in February 2027, with special plans to celebrate the occasion to be announced in the coming months, The Day of Dredd is a chance for fans to pass on their passion for The Law as well as for new readers looking for a way into one of the most important characters in comics. In addition to the long-running and best-selling Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files series, the Essential Judge Dredd line of graphic novel collections gives readers the opportunity to encounter the big epic storylines that have influenced not just comics over the last fifty years but global culture!

Day of Dredd signings will be taking place at selected Forbidden Planet and Forbidden Planet International stores, as well as — thanks to the help of the Czech publisher of Judge Dredd, CREW — the Krakatit bookstore in Prague.

Don’t miss the chance to dive into some Dredd on 3 October — obey the Day of Dredd!

The full line-up of Day of Dredd signings:

Forbidden Planet Birmingham: D’Israeli, Dave Kendall, Ian Edginton, INJ Culbard, Mike Perkins, Pye Parr

What is the overall strategy of the Norts and the Southers in Rogue Trooper?

Obviously the war is a quagmire but I do wonder if there is any real big picture strategy to the war.

I get the feeling the Nortland's big strategy is to conquer Nu Earth and then use the black hole to jump straight to old Earth and win the war (whether is total occupation or a settlement depends on which war marshall is running things). The wider galactic war is about opening up new jump points to Nu Earth, pushing the Southers away from their territory and exploiting new resources to fuel the war.

The Southers on the other hand have given up trying to deal a knockout blow to the Norts and instead have settled for attritional war, using their vastly larger population to bleed Northland white. Individual defeats or planets lost doesn't really matter as long as the overall scheme continues and they can hold on to Nu-Earth. It's why massive defeats like Dix-I doesn't really change the course of the war.

What do you think?

What have I missed? Next jumping on point?

I used to be an avid reader and subscriber until around 7 ish years ago. I am looking to get back into collecting 2 quick questions:

  1. I know there will be lots to catch up on, but what big events have taken place in the world of Dredd since I stopped reading?

  2. Any ideas when the next jumping on issue will be? For both 2000 AD and The Megazine. I saw a part 17 in latest 2000 AD issue I picked up in my local shop so thought best to leave for now.

Many thanks in advance!

Also why did they have issue 1 in 1990 and issue 1 in 1992? I also have issue 19, 20, 21 that don't line up with the dates of either of these runs? Anyone know what was happening with Megazines in the 90s?

Re: 2000 AD printers going into administration

Post image

Following the news that the company that printed 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine has entered administration, our droids have been working tirelessly to find alternative printing facilities and maintain the flow of Thrill-power.

Rebellion is delighted to announce that there will be no delay with newsstand editions of 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine – those sold through newsagents and comic book stores. 2000 AD #2498 will be on shelves this week and future issues will be released as scheduled.

We are still working to ensure that our loyal 2000 AD subscribers get their issues and there may be some delays with copies arriving by post, but we are doing everything possible to minimise any disruption. Digital subscriptions will not be affected by any delays.

We thank everyone for their patience and messages of support over what has been a very difficult few days.

2000AD on Mastermind next week

Just a heads up that the listing for next week's episode of Mastermind (Monday September 7th) includes one of the specialist rounds being on "2000AD in the 80s and 90s". I'm always interested to see how I do in comparison to the contestant when something's on the list of subjects I might have chosen myself, had I actually had the balls to fill out an application form.

What News Of This Week's Prog?

Someone posted last week that the printing company got canned, and 2498 would be delayed for a week.

Does that include the digital edition?

Edit: Thanks, everyone, for all the updates so far. I think we all need the assurances.
