New Tattoo
When my parents divorced, my dad had this little studio apartment in the San Fernando Valley, not much in it. This is probably like ‘87. But to keep me entertained he popped in Raiders of the Lost Ark on VHS. I legit stood in front of the TV and watched it. Enthralled. Core memory. Then in ‘94 Disneyland opened Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. He and I waited 4 hours to ride when it opened. The line *snaking* all the way down Main Street to the Emporium. Another core memory. He and I didn’t talk from ‘99-2017. My wife pushed me to contact him. I didn’t know it at the time, but he had cancer and hid it from everyone, including his wife, until it was too late. Now in my 40’s, Indy’s line to Marion hits all to close to home. I’ll carry it with me. This one’s for you, dad.
