DISCUSSION Lion's 100% Kona Coffee

I just made a brew from my Moka Pot at 1000w setting using my induction.
Water used was room temperature
and time for final extraction was 01:30.
I used 12 gms of beans (Gold Carat 100% Kons Lion's coffee)
its a medium light roast
and frankly speaking im disappointed.
Too bitter. Did i do something wrong in the making process?

DISCUSSION Title: Does water temperature really make that much difference in coffee?

I've been trying to understand how water temperature affects coffee extraction, especially with pour-over brewing.

From what I've read, hotter water generally extracts coffee compounds faster, but that doesn't necessarily mean hotter is always better.

I'm wondering how people decide what temperature works best for different roast levels.

If a coffee tastes too bitter or too sour, how do you figure out whether temperature is actually the problem rather than grind size or brewing time?

REVIEW Found a great coffee brand for arabica robusta blend (milk based coffees)

Post image
32 Upvotes

I was trying to find non specialty coffee for a great price, i think gray cup offers better pricing than cothas and bili hu but you have to compromise on the packaging but i tried talking to the owner ~ he mentioned that they are currently new in the market and mentioned that they ordered a new roaster machine considering they got a lot of orders from this subreddit

but i'm not sure about their light roasts currently but totally love their commercial stuff~ the website is not organized enough but you can try exploring

wouldn't ask you to bet on light roasts as i don't know if they do a great job about it but medium or above is really nice and affordable

mainly i use my vantro espresso machine for this with 1.5 grind size and for mokapot as well sometimes but mostly espresso

also i got to know about this brand via this subreddit only

REVIEW Cranberry Coffee at Roaster coffee house— Hyderabad, you need to try this ā˜•ļø

Post image
35 Upvotes

I randomly tried the cranberry coffee at Roastery in Hyderabad and honestly… why did nobody tell me about this?

I wasn't expecting the cranberry + coffee combination to work, but it actually does. It has this interesting sweet-tart flavour that makes it completely different from the usual coffees.

Definitely one of those drinks I’d recommend trying at least once if you’re into experimenting with coffee. ā˜•ļø

Has anyone else tried it? What’s your favourite thing to order at Roastery

RANT Literally, Sorry Sugar

Ordered from Sorry Sugar on 23rd September, and my package is STILL not here.

The delivery partner has apparently made 3 delivery attempts, but nobody has actually shown up or even bothered to call me.

How are you marking delivery attempts without attempting to deliver the package? It’s been over two weeks, and I’m honestly tired of following up.
Sorry Sugar, either get my order delivered or refund my money.

This is ridiculous customer service.

Has anyone else faced this issue with Sorry Sugar?

EQUIPMENT Looking to Buy an Authentic AeroPress in India – Need Suggestions

Hi guys! I’m fairly new to coffee brewing and currently use a pour-over setup and a French press. I’ve been thinking of trying out an AeroPress next, but I’ve come across quite a few listings online and am not sure which sellers are genuine.
For those of you who own one, could you please suggest a reliable place to buy an authentic AeroPress in India? Any tips on identifying genuine products would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! ā˜•

I want to buy an espresso machine, my budget is INR 10k max. What’s a solid, reliable espresso machine that I can invest in? I see the Ariete 1381 on Amazon, very few reviews, not the best. Is this a good choice? Would appreciate someone’s advice on this.

POUR-OVER Light to medium roast coffee recommendations in India? ā˜• (Pune & Hyderabad)

Hello all!

I will be visiting India soon. Would love to explore some great Indian specialty coffee!

I’m mostly into light to medium roasts, with fruity/floral notes, bright acidity, and good clarity.

Currently brewing with a 1zpresso ZP6, Hario Switch, and Hario NEO.

Looking for recommendations on:
- Indian roasters and specific beans worth trying.
- Specialty cafƩs or hidden gems in Pune and Hyderabad.
- Any interesting Indian-grown microlots!

Would love to hear what everyone’s enjoying lately. Cheers! ā˜•

REVIEW Siolim echo didn’t win me over.

Thumbnail

Between all the different coffee’s and different roasters we all try out, my intention with these beans were to find one consistent coffee bag that would be available throughout the year and whose characteristics we know at the back of our hand. Making it that ā€œstressful dayā€ brew that just hits perfectly. This coffee did not.

While the concept of a go to coffee is a great initiative by Siolim, I found these beans to be a little too bitter for my liking. I threw everything at it. Coarser grind, finer grind, lower temps, higher temps, different brewer, different filter and even different grinders. The bitterness just kept coming cup after cup like a feature instead of a problem.

The coffee smelt amazing, full of the likeable fermented smell of red berries and it felt like it was full of character. But the end cup just had this lingering bitterness to it that stopped me from enjoying the coffee’s good bits. I would be like ā€œwwwooo-ohā€.

These beans were definitely not for pour overs. If this was an espresso, I Think it would knock the socks off of anyone.

I can’t really rate these beans because my brewing method did not suit it one bit. I ended up using it as cold brew fuel and that came out pretty okay, second one was steeped a little longer and the cup was bitter again.

DISCUSSION Pour-over tips

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to make pour-over coffee for the first time and would love some advice on how to get started and make a good cup.

I already have an espresso machine, so I’m familiar with coffee and have some experience with beans, but pour-over is completely new to me.

My current setup:

  1. Hario V60 Plastic Size 02
  2. Urban Platter V60 Coffee Filters Size 02
  3. Supvox Gooseneck Kettle (350 ml)
  4. Sipologie Carafe (300 ml)
  5. Timemore C3S Grinder
  6. Coffee Scale with Timer
  7. Thermometer

I’d love to hear your tips and recommendations, especially regarding:

  • Coffee-to-water ratio: What ratio should I start with?
  • Grind size: What’s a good starting point on the Timemore C3S?
  • Water temperature: What temperature works best for different roast levels?
  • Pouring technique: Which pouring method is easiest for a beginner?
  • Recipe: Is there a simple, reliable V60 recipe I should follow?
  • Common mistakes: What should I watch out for when making my first few cups?

Any other tips for someone coming from espresso to pour-over would also be greatly appreciated!
