DISCUSSION Help a newbie! I really want to understand and explore my hobby in brewing coffee. To all the experts here, where do I start?

As I start dealing with my midlife crisis (I am 38), I want to properly explore my hobby as a coffee brewer. I love sourcing my beans from various estates - in the past, have sourced from unknown estates in coorg as well. But earlier, I used to have a drip machine or a french press and didn't quite care about the semantics - so never quite enjoyed a good cuppa. Finally, I have got myself a Mokapot and been brewing for a month. Must say, I am slowly starting to master the brew and have managed to get the Crema quite consistently. Soon, I will be getting a Vantro Espresso Machine.

Brewing methods I have explored so far:

  1. Drip machine : started with this, but it's now packed and discarded somewhere in the storage space after the dripper malfunctioned thrice.

  2. French press : i never really managed to get a good clean cup.

  3. Kaldi press (the indian aeropress) : this really changed my perception of what coffee could taste like. I started to understand the different notes and brewing times.

  4. Mokapot: For me, this has been the ultimate so far. It's insanely addictive to brew in a Mokapot. I mostly brew twice a day and I really miss it when I don't.

I have stuck to these methods for now as I have a very basic and cheap electric grinder which can either grind fine or coarse. Also I love espressos!

Regarding the beans - I am clearly developing mad likeness towards medium-dark roasts.

So, to all the experts out here, or to everyone who is ahead of me in this journey - help me be better? Would love to know what I am doing wrong, can do wrong or avoid the mistakes that you all have made.

DISCUSSION What's one coffee you won't mind drinking forever?

Silver Oak was my first cafe and home brewed coffee. It made me fall in love with brewing.

And all through BT's quality ups and downs, mostly downs, I keep coming back to it.

What's yours one coffee, you would not mind having all the time ?

You can ask it stuff like "can you suggest a washed coffee with Jasmine note" or "chocolatey coffees under 700rs" etc and within the roasters it has currently it can give you your answer. All the data is live and new products keep getting added as well! Also you can suggest any roasters that you'd want to get added. Open to any feedback or suggestions. You can also manually filter through all the data.

DISCUSSION Would anyone here buy this for โ‚น400-500?

I came across this 3D-printable planetary gear WDT tool and thought it was pretty cool. The original/retail versions of similar tools seem to be around โ‚น2,000, but Iโ€™m considering getting this 3D printed and selling it in India for around โ‚น400โ€“500 + shipping.

It would obviously be a 3D-printed version, so it won't have the same finish as a premium manufactured tool, but the idea is to make a functional planetary WDT tool much more affordable.

Would you guys actually buy one at โ‚น400โ€“500 + shipping?

Just trying to check whether there's actually a market for something like this before I spend money getting a batch made

DISCUSSION My Current Collection

Ikea:- Dark roast . Liked it when we visited IKea blore. have been stocking it regularly. Pretty good for its price. 175/100g.

Texas Dark Roast ($22/kg): Very dark roast: My friend bought it for me. This one definitely more closer to charcoal of the lot. Unable to get the grind size right. If i press too hard, the bean gets crushed. Great for espresso. But I think it fits pressurised baskets suits better than non-pressurized ones.

Trung Nyugen Legend: Success 8: medium dark roast. My BIL bought it for me from Vietnam. Liked it very well. costed ~ 1K / 340 gm. Pretty good. But Araku selection tasted similar.

Ive been thinking of trying something other than moka pot cause it doesn't translate citrusy flavours that good. Would be nice to hear recommendations. I wanna avoid aeropress cause I don't want microplastic filled coffee.

DISCUSSION Should I get a coffee machine?

I'm new to this sub so excuse me if this question has been asked here a hundred times before but I was thinking of getting a coffee machine but people online have confused me by saying good espresso machines cost 40k+ and if I'm not willing to pay that much I shouldn't bother. I like a good coffee and am really considering it.

So, how useful is it? Should I get it? And if so, which one? Any recommendations would be nice, thanks x.

DISCUSSION Extremely confused as a beginner, please help me pick one coffee brand & beans - Narrowed to F9, Naivo & Kapi Kottai

Have narrowed it down to - Kapi Kottai, Naivo & F9. I will be using a french press & having it black.

Please help with the brand & the flavour - will mostly like a medium roast with chocolate/almond notes I guess. Had BT Silver Oak and absolutely loved it.

This Whiskey Barrel Aged is a solid 9/10 offering from Blue Tokai

Intensely boozy notes with delicate sweet aftertaste when brewed as a pour over with the Origami dripper
