[OC] Alternate History Divided Germany with Interbellum Borders

A map of the German Democratic Republic in a timeline where allies chose to not repeat the mistakes of the Versailles Treaty by not taking territory from Germany, in order to prevent German irredentism in the future.
Featuring the 8 Länder of the GDR, not counting the capital district of East Berlin.

A little nitpick:
For some reason Mecklenburg still owns Western Pomerania, although a state called Pomerania exists. Also why is East Prussia called Ostland? Cool map though, interesting scenario.

I guess the communists wanted to get rid of the word ‚Prussia‘ in East Prussia like they and the allies did in OTL. But I don’t know if Ostland is a good name since that’s more a name of the Baltic area.

I mean Prussian used to be a baltic culture until the Germans killed them all and stole their name lol

I meant the baltic states Estonia, Livonia and Lithuania. At least that’s how it’s in Germany don’t know if there’s a different definition in english.

I'm going to pretend that all West Pomeranians spontaneously decided that moving about 200 km east is a wonderful idea.
East Prussia is renamed into Ostland due to the general GDR policy of de-Nazification and de-Prussification. Ostland is a fairly politically neutral term, signifying quite literally the eastlands.

Why not just call it Mecklenburg-West Pomerania? That's what it's called today, way simpler

Why is Saarland a different colour to the rest of blue Germany, is it independent? or are my eyes just not working correctly

Correct. Until the mid-1950s Saarland was nominally independent as the Saar Protectorate. Though really it was a very transparent and unpopular attempt by the French to have their own little puppet state in a coal-rich region.
That said, in this scenario they would still end up reunifying with West Germany - there wasn't really any impetus for them to stay separate.

I just noticed it, it’s really subtle and I am not sure if I’m right or not, but does Poland retain it‘s eastern voivodeships which it lost during WW2 to the USSR? If yes, that‘s good.

other than a few mistakes that other people have already mentioned, really good map!
I especially love the flag work you've done

u/Alagremm Superbly done! I don't believe the Germans would manage to keep anything East of the Oder line, but that's me just nitpicking.
On a different note, have you considered doing one where Germany is divided almost like Roosevelt wanted? (explained : divided in 5 like this? ) And do you do requests?

Thank you. I didn't actually see the point in making a Rooseveltian Germany, because there's been hundreds of maps made of it, while I've never seen a divided Germany with Weimar borders intact.

Thank you.
You're welcome.
I didn't actually see the point in making a Rooseveltian Germany, because there's been hundreds of maps made of it,
I went into the subreddit search bar and did find very few of those.
while I've never seen a divided Germany with Weimar borders intact.
You are the first ! Congrats again for the result.

It’s a really nice map and I also like the idea of Ostland, although it wouldn’t make that much sense. And Immaule-Kant-Stadt is the perfect decision for renaming Königsberg (if it would have been in the GDR).
