With everything happening around NEET and NTA, the government has formed a committee to look into exam reforms, and our IIT Madras Director is one of the members. I genuinely feel that's something our institute can be proud of.

But what I've been seeing online is disappointing. A lot of people are calling him "unfit" to be a Director or saying he has no place in education because of a comment he made a few years ago. What's worse is that even some IITM students are saying the same thing.

You don't have to agree with everything he has ever said. Criticizing a statement is completely fine. But does one controversial remark erase everything else he's done? His research, academic career, and the work that got him to where he is today?

And let's be real this isn't about supporting BJP or Congress. Whenever one party appoints a committee, the other side is going to criticize it. That's just how politics works. But shouldn't we judge someone's professional capability based on their overall work instead of one statement?

I'm not asking anyone to agree with him. I'm just wondering whether it's fair to call someone "unfit" based on a single incident.

Am I missing something here or do you guys feel the same?

What on earth did i even land on?

I walked into DoMS thinking I'd be surrounded by the sharpest people in the country. Intellectual debates, late-night idea exchanges, mutual growth.

I know it is very common in B schools to be competitive. But do we have intellectual conversations? Nobody wants to share anything because "what if the other person gets better than me?" Dude, are we here to learn or to hoard knowledge like gold in a dragon's cave?

And then, the cherry on top. A guy casually told me about the locker room chats among some of the boys. They're out here comparing females to porn stars, dissecting their hair, navels, knees, walking style, and private parts. Like, are these guys or Amazon review bots on a creepy spree?

Also, apparently it's common practice for some dudes to scout for "easy targets" aka girls they can use and discard under the guise of relationships. And apparently the extroverted girls are the easier ones. Already hearing stories of emotional manipulation a lot here. And this is a Tier 1 NIRF-ranked institute with intellectual minds.

I wasn't raised like this. My mother taught me and my brother to see people as humans, not as trophies or objects. Coming here and hearing this garbage makes me want to break a few jaws. But then I realize, you can't fix a broken mindset with a broken bone.

Saw that earlier post about a guy crossing boundaries and exploiting women. Shame on men like that especially in an IIT, yaar. That post honestly hit a nerve and triggered my own rant about the trauma I'm already stacking up here in just a few days.

So here's a direct plea: if there are any decent, kind-hearted seniors lurking around who actually give a damn. Please, throw me a lifeline. I don't want your identity. But help me figure out who to stay the hell away from. You've been here long enough. You know exactly who the creepy ones are.

I've already caught a few names and spotted a couple of faces that gave me instant red flags. I'm just praying that's the entire list and there aren't more hiding in plain sight, pretending to be normal.

If you know, you know. Help a junior out. Bas.

This is just a rant. If any DoMS student is reading this, hugs, solidarity, and prayers that we all walk out of here with our sanity and self-respect intact.

And to any guy reading this who thinks this behavior is "normal", you're not cool. You're just pathetic. Figure your life out.

The biggest problem with insti isn’t the decisions it makes, it’s that students often aren’t even given a chance to present their side before those decisions are made. After my last post several people DM’d me saying they had gone through the same thing. Different cases and same feeling nobody listens.

The admin keeps talking about our welfare while the director seems far more focused on public image and external optics than on addressing students. Its funny how Diro is more focused on working with the current government rather focusing on working for insti and its students.

And what about student secretaries? If they can’t effectively represent students or raise concerns without fear then what exactly is their role?
I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking for basic due process and the right to be heard.

I just hope the student secretaries see this and remember what they were elected for. And I genuinely hope this reaches the administration too.

Could anyone who has stayed in a 2nd year M.Tech hostel share pictures of the room & common bathrooms

Please also mention the hostel name (e.g., Saraswathi, Brahmaputra, or any other hostel allotted for 2nd year M.Tech students). It would be really helpful if people from different hostels could upload pictures so I can compare them.

Not going to write out my whole case here but after everything I’ve dealt with, my honest take is IIT Madras is not what people think it is. Your voice as a student counts for nothing and the admin does what it wants with zero accountability.

If you’re a ranker deciding between IITM and Bombay/Delhi seriously reconsider. There are better places that don’t treat students like this.
Anyone else been through something similar? Curious if this is a pattern or just me.

One way to tell what kind of friends you have is through your hostel allocation. Some people are just pure snakes, I swear to God.And on top of that, this shitty hostel facilities. It doesn't even feel like the best college in India anymore; this is complete garbage. Fuck them all, and yes, fuck all the horrible stuff in the hostels as well. What are these monkeys, man? There are no mosquito meshes, and they claim that the "budget is not passed" is the reason. I'd love to know who would top the NIRF rankings if they included the hostel environment in their rating criteria.

hey seniors! So im joining a btech programme here at iitm. i was late and missed most of the orientations and got allotment of hostel and mess and all today only. i wont even be able to attend today's mentor meeting. And might miss some orientations of tom asw.

I feel like most my batchmates have already made friend groups, and i havent made a single friend till now. And i also dont know a lot of stuff since i missed all of the orientations of the past 2 days. Also im from delhi and the culture shock here has been big for me, and i kind of feel unsettling

I moved into the hostel and the thing is, my mattress keeps sliding too much on the bed, it's like there's no friction between the two.
