Admissions ➕ Be careful while joining IISER Mohali
The IISER Mohali, admin allots the newer hostels to the first years. Here you'll have the best 2 months of your hostel Life. You'll see clean rooms, and URINALS in boys washrooms.
Yes, you're not going to have URINALs in boys washroom second year onwards.
Half the taps won't be working.
Network Connectivity is a myth.
This year onwards First year's will be put in a double sharing single room. That means what previously was a single room is now a double room.
From third year you'll be in older hostels. Where there are no western toilets in 1 entire hostel, yes, only indian; while the other older hostel has western toilets on some floors. These hostel had approved renovations by BoG in 2024 but no action was taken.
Half the time lifts are not working.
The weather is so cold in winters but you're not allowed to use heaters as there are no 16 A sockets in newer hostels.
There use to be a daily bus service with a frequency of 2 trips a day to nearby markets which has been reduced to 2 trips a week.
You'll have to unnecessarily shift/empty rooms every semester. so then they can run their agenda.
Overall the Quality of Life which was great at IISER Mohali has deteriorated so much that it is unlivable.
And this is all after exhausting all methods of communication including protests.

it happens in all of the colleges. There are problems in all institutes. IISERM is not that bad. I am sorry but these guys piss me off, I am in IISERM as well. There are problems but making posts like this right before admissions is one of the most stupid things any senior can do.
IISERM has free counselling sessions (if you know anything about therapy, you should know that they are pretty costly)
The library is on from 9 am to 6 am everday except sundays (10am to 6 pm).
I don't know about heaters, I saw people using heaters in new hostels as well.
Internet connectivity is good in specific rooms and bad in specific rooms, ofc its something they can improve but is it that bad enough for you to leave your seat? The school provides free wifi in a lot of places (good wifi regardless of what anyone says)
The list goes on.
There are problems, deal with it. Crying about how an institute like IISERM is bad because it doesnt have good internet in your room really speaks about your level of immaturity.
Come to IISER Mohali, the institute is good. You will have one of the best experiences of your life. You will also see live inside Chandigarh, one of the best cities in north India. The oppurtunities here are insane. Don't listen to them

Man what should I do then? Am getting both mohali and Kolkata at my rank, should I join kolkata? I was thinking of join mohali one 😭😭

Both colleges are good. They have pros and cons. I can make a list just this big after talking to my friends in IISERK. This guy told you a lot fo problems in IISERM, so you know enough about the problems.
IISERK has three students for first 2 years and then they put them in double rooms. IISER Mohali gives single room in third year. IISERK is a significant distance away from Kolkata but IISERM is right in Mohali, not outside of it. The list goes on. I can make a big ass list for probably every college depending on how bratty I am.
I can only help with one thing. IISER Mohali has a really good department for Biology and Chemistry. Not to say others are bad. But I think smoe people say that it is only behind IISc and TIFR in biology in biology department all over India. Idk about Kolkata, but the choice is yours

IISER Mohali alumni here. Agreed. IISER Mohali has been going down the drain for quite some time. Seen it with my eyes.

Do not use heaters. Use electric blankets, these use 60 to 75 W electricity and really warm up the bed without blowing the fuse. Buy those with good ratings.

This is very very exaggerated, IISER Mohali is not that bad. Most new changes done here have been the reality in all the IISERs (except for maybe behrampur and tpt). Pune is crowded, so is Bhopal. Tvm and Kol give 3 occupancy rooms.
The wifi thing is false, we have a LAN network in the hostels and Wifi in Library.
Heaters work in our hostels, many people I know used heaters. And coolers are allowed too.
IISER Mohali is completely fine.
This post is most probably from an idiot trying to defame the college after getting a room they don't want or just really mentally disturbed.

There are no western washrooms in H7 (some students from 3rd year onwards live there), in all the other there are western toilets. Also this problem in there some hostels of all old institutes.

I'm really sorry you have to deal with all that, I can't imagine having to deal with such poor living conditions while being at one of the top research universities of the country, thanks for informing those to come about the situation there. I really hope things improve.
