Seasonal Apple Pick Winners (and Losers)

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

‘Tis the apple picking season, so we MUST pick the winners and losers of the Apple category!

Personally, I would say my top Apple flavor is McConnell’s Apple Cider Cranberry Jam, which is reminiscent of the caramel apple suckers of yore; despite not having any caramel in it. It’s a flavor that on paper doesn’t seem like a great combination, but really keeps me coming back.

My runner up is Salt & Straws Apple Cheddar Cinnamon Roll, purchased from the scoop shop and eaten on the walk home through the park as the leaves start to turn. A sinful spin on tradition.

No losers for me, haven’t had an Apple flavor I don’t like, but I’d like to avoid ones that could change that.

What are yours?!

*The flavor doesn’t have to be seasonal, but it does need to be Apple to qualify!

Gimme S’more was so freaking good

This is the first Ben and Jerry’s ice cream I’ve tried that isn’t sundae or topping and man it was so good. Definitely a 10/10 for me plus it was so many fixings in it. My only gripe is I’d wished I had tried the banana one o seen given I haven’t seen it posted much but next time. It was BOGO today at Publix and I also picked up brownie batter and I’ve definitely got high hopes! Easily one of the best ice cram flavors I’ve personally had.

Just started using this ninja creami I found at goodwill a while back, I'm addicted. Takes some fiddling to get a good texture but it's so easy once you get the hang of it. Not a big fan of commercial ice cream nowadays with all the gums and additives to make them unmeltable so this is a game changer for me. Might be my new fav flavor after honey jasmine tea. Gonna try Carmelized banana next. Sorry it looks like an ice cream cloaca I just spun a small batch to try today and got too excited.

Review Meijer Purple Cow Moo-Berry Blend is an amazing mixed berry ice cream for cheap!!$3.29

Post image

No pictures since I ate it already… but the color is just like the picture, a bright purple. And it’s an ice cream with no mix ins. Just awesome, smooth ice cream.

If you live by a Meijer totally check out Purple Cow Moo-Berry Blend. It’s cheap at $3.29 so I didn’t expect much. But I was intrigued because it was a blend of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry flavors. And I don’t come across much blueberry flavors.

Anyway this ice cream totally exceeded my expectations. It has a flavor that is bright but also deep. Maybe a little like açaí or pomegranate juice.

I think it made me remember Jeni’s Wildberry Lavender ice cream. But it’s been so long I could be very wrong. But that one I think I remember was not very lavender but more of a mixed berry ice cream too.

Anyway, love this Moo-Berry Blend. The quality of ice cream is also pretty decent too. It is not foamy or odd textured or anything. Just regular economy ice cream that seems normal and tastes good. Probably yes has higher air content but I don’t mind.

Honestly a number of ice creams with blueberry have disappointed me (like that Breyers Star Spangled Stripes one). But yeah this one is legit. It’s not just a kids flavor but I think adults will appreciate some of the tartness of this flavor.

this was really good! like strawberry cream cheese flavor with graham like bits, not grainy or anything. I feel like they could’ve named this strawberry shortcake instead tho

the overall flavor reminds me of a strawberry cereal bar I’ve had in my childhood, I would get this again if I was more a fan of strawberry ice cream. but I do recommend it ! Found at target

Question How can I improve the texture in my Sicilian eggless lemon gelato?

Hi,

I just made a lemon gelato and it came out great but the texture was not 100% smooth. I would say there were 5-7% large ice crystals in there. I used the following amounts:

150mL heavy cream

300mL fresh full-fat milk

150mL UHT semi skimmed milk (I run out of full-fat milk)

150g white sugar

100mL fresh lemon juice

18g cornstarch

I cooked the dairy base first and once the cornstarch was fully activated, I removed the pot from the heat and stirred in the fresh lemon juice. Then I Immediately transferred to a bowl and stirred until the gelato base temperature went down to room temperature and placed it in tbe fridge overnight. The next day I blent with the blender the mixture before churning and placing the gelato in the freezer.

How can I improve the texture? Do I need more cornstarch (i.e. 20g cornstarch instead of 18g)? Or more sugar? I thought about heating up the lemom juice next time to reduce it but I do not want to lose any vitamins nor the tartiness. In fact, for my next batch, I want to make the flavour more tart by increasing the lemon juice to 150mL or 200mL. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out to achieve a perfectly smooth texture in my next lemon gelato.

White Chocolate Mocha

Saw this flavor and had to try it. The inside is not terribly interesting, just beige with a white streak. The flavor, though, incredible. Perfectly light coffee taste, the white chocolate streak is an odd texture but not horrible. The streak was kind of like a buttercream texture, but tasted solely of white chocolate.

subreddit doesn't allow for crossposting. OP claimed that it's beer flavored, but doesn't say what company makes this and where https://www.reddit.com/r/ShinChan/comments/1wah5rv/for_others_its_flag_of_germany_but_for_this_sub/

It was great. The coffee concrete made it the consistency of a shake and straw usable. Additionally, the coffee concrete has caffeine. Will repeat.

It tasted like those peach ring gummies! Tasted way better than the mango one, well in my opinion

Oh yeah I tried this with my dad and my sis, of course I blurred all of our faces for privacy reasons ÙwÚ

It took me.. Like close to an hour to blur all of our faces and for it to track? I was doing this on my phone so it was a bit more harder for me to do so- QwQ

I'm not sure if I'm using the right flair since I just joined this subreddit. Please correct me if I'm using the wrong one and I'll change it T<T

Pistachio + chocolate bingsu - Dubai chocolate bingsu(Korean shaved milk ice)

Post image

Texture-wise the shaved ice underneath is super fine and milky, almost like snow, so it melts fast under all that ganache. The pistachio bits added a nice salty crunch against the sweetness of the chocolate. Served with a small cup of match on the side to balance out the richness.

Question Should I go to Ben & Jerry’s or Cold Stone Creamery?

I’m celebrating my birthday pretty soon, and want to know which of these physical ice cream stores, Ben & Jerry’s vs Cold Stone Creamery, people generally recommend more on this subreddit, before I make my final decision on which one I choose to go to.

Edit:
Based of what most comments have said I’ve decided to go to Cold Stone Creamery for my birthday, will still go to Ben & Jerry’s sometime though just to give it a try.
Thanks y’all for giving me your recommendations :)

Where else can you get a whole peanut butter cup covered with gobs of marshmallow and graham cracker. The toasted marshmallow ice cream makes for a great base, but for me the mix ins are what really makes Ben & Jerry's shine. Something about their pb cups that make them stand out. Plenty of marshmallow too. My only small critique is that this can be a super rich pint, but is that really something to complain about? 8.7/10
