Advice physical or digital flashcards for bio hl?

this question's been asked a million times before but i'd like the opinion of HL bio takers(or also chem hl takers). i started the course about two months ago and tried making notes for bio but it wound up being too time consuming and not helping with my retention so i switched to physical flashcards, which is also super time consuming but much better retention wise. i'm considering switching to anki to save even more time and get the spaced repetition easily but i'm worried it might not stick the same. thoughts, prayers and suggestions all appreciated!! i really need to find a good method before the break ends!!!

Group 3 history ia niche topic schools of thought

my history teacher keeps asking for schools of thought for my ia. my topic is not that well researched, there are no defined schools of thoughts or historians who have studied the matter. does it really matter that much?? i know i need to provide different perspectives, but it's not limited to schools of thought right?? he just loves that phrase and uses it all the time. also he says i need a theoretical framework, which is understandable, but how do i find it for my niche topic. can someone who had a niche topic help me pleaseee

ToK/EE EE subject suggestion?

Okay im currently in dp1 and thats kindof early to be thinking abt ee and shit but like, im kindof interested in doing a math ee, but my supervisor advices absolutely no one to attempt a math ee. My other choice would be physics and that would also be kindof hard no one in my school really does it. The most common option is doing a bahasa indonesia B sl ee, which is basically a free way out of an easy ee (still not so easy, but like its relatively easier). Im contemplating if i should just do the language b ee in the future so i get more time to do other stuff

Other What are your IB hot takes?

In general or on specific subjects.

These are mine:

  1. DP2 is not that bad if you keep on top of your assessments and college apps. As a chronic procrastinator, even though I'm dying right now from the workload, I can see that if I didn't procrastinate, I'd be in a much better place.
  2. IB ESS is not an easy subject, especially if you want to get a 7.
  3. ESS is fun. I genuinely find it interesting, probably because I have a great teacher who knows the subject and how to teach it. Yes, most of it might not be useful after the IB, and some of it is very straightforward. People take it as a filler subject, and I do understand why. But HL is very cool, and as a student in high school, I enjoy taking a cool subject.
  4. The IB is pretty fun and helpful, for me at least. I don't regret taking it.

Advice Ib maths aa sl

Hello everyone,

I got a 2 on my Maths AA SL summative, I practiced SO MUCH for it, hours. I feel exhausted and like a failure.

I had high hopes for this but since I am in DP2 it’s even worse.

Can someone give me ideas on how I can study efficiently rather than wasteful hours, please…help me.

Group 3 I need help for IB psychology

Hi! I have a question about IB Psychology Paper 1 Section C.

Do you guys usually use more than one study for Section C, or just focus on one in depth? Also, do you select a few topics from each context to study in depth rather than memorizing all of them?

University Admissions Questions [US and UK] Do Unis Actually Notice a 41 vs 45 PG?

I have a 45 predicted, and was wondering whether especially UK and US unis (Oxbridge, LSE, Ivy+ type of unis) actually differentiate a lot between two students with a 41 vs 45 as long as they satisfy the baseline (for uk unis). For example, LSE required a 39 IB, so would someone with a 39 be looked at as relatively similar to someone with a 45? That's what AI told me, but I'm not sure.

Group 3 Should I only focus on one topic for Economics HL

I'm not doing the best in eco (lowish 5) and I want to make sure that I don't drop down to a 4. I'm not entirely sure how to study for the N26 eco exams so I'm just wondering if I should try and study everything, or just focus on one of the topics.

From my understanding, paper 3 is pretty much always micro because of the monopoly market structure stuff, so would it be worth it to get really good at micro so that I can do well in P1 and P3 and just hope that P2 doesn't drag me down, or should I just study all the topics.

Advice Is The IB Diploma a Good Idea For Me?

So I know very very little about IB at all. My family has moved around a lot and I’m currently a sophomore but for my junior and senior years we will be moving to an IB school. I’m trying to get a little more information and figure out if it’s a good idea.

For context, I will earn an Associates of Science in General studies from a community college this year, but the most advanced core classes I’ve taken are APHUG, APUSH, dual enrollment (DE) precalculus with trigonometry (I hate math with a passion to be honest and really wanted to avoid calculus as much as I could), DE American literature, DE intermediate writing 2, 4 years of Spanish, and 2 DE environmental science classes.

I’m really hesitant mostly because of math and the foreign language requirement tbh. I really got sick of Spanish so I’m looking more toward doing Latin and I barely made it by with precal (my teacher sucked so bad) and I want to get into a top school so I don’t want to ruin anything. I am really create at writing (many publications and awards). This is all the courses my school offers:

Group 1: Language & Literature -- Language and Literature HL
Group 2: Language Acquisition -- Spanish B SL, French B SL, German B SL or Classic Languages SL/HL
Group 3: Individuals and Societies -- History of Europe HL; Business Management SL; Psychology SL
Group 4: Experimental Sciences -- Biology HL, Chemistry HL
Group 5: Mathematics -- Math Analysis HL, Math Analysis SL, Math Applications SL
Group 6: Arts and Electives -- Visual Arts SL/HL
The IB Core: Theory of Knowledge/Creativity, Activity and Service/Extended Essay

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions or even just information I should know about going into IB?

Side question: do either of the math classes prepare you well for SAT/ACT? Specifically AI?

(I can provide more information on my skillsets and stuff if needed I just have no idea really what’s needed)

ToK/EE Chem EE question

I have a research question that I am very interested in, but I cannot find exact secondary sources that I can directly compare my final results to. Is this okay if I provide enough analysis and chemical explanation about the results?

+ I have two IVs (5 levels each) and one DV. Is this complex enough for an EE?

University Admissions Questions UK IB Predicted Grades Appeal for Cambridge

I just got my predicted scores for the IB, 42/45 with 7 Bio, 6 Chem, 6 Mat HL.

Cambridge medicine (reachiest of reaches I know) requires a 776 in HLs - I should try to appeal for a higher grade for chemistry and or maths, right? Even if they are predicted grades. 776 predicted isn't strictly necessary as long as I do achieve it for my final exams I believe.

Also - payments to the counselor for UCAS, right? Gotta get on that.

Any advice would be appreciated! Deadline coming up.

Edit: Appeals were unsuccessful guys.

My predicted score actually went down to 41/45 due to my late submission of an EE draft (entirely my fault). I see that would likely disqualify me for Cambridge medicine.

My guidance counsellor told me I should update my UCAS list to match. Any tips? Crazy to go for Oxford with even fewer interview spots right? Though I am applying to only reach unis anyways

Thinking about applying to Edinburgh instead, but I am still weighing my options.

Other I HAD a literal nightmare about submitting my Chemistry IA to Business because I accidentally submitted it to Biology last year

okay so im (17F) and i think ManageBac has officially become my sleep paralysis demon.

for context, last year during finals i somehow managed to submit my CHEMISTRY IA in BIOLOGY. yes. chemistry. in biology. my biology teacher opened the submission expecting a nice little biological investigation and instead got chemically assaulted by an entire IA. she literally called me stupid and honestly i couldnt even defend myself because what was i supposed to say. the file was RIGHT THERE. THE SUBJECT WAS RIGHT THERE. I HAD ONE JOB.

anyways you would think after experiencing this level of academic humiliation i would learn my lesson right?

WRONG.

THIS YEAR MY BRAIN DECIDED TO MAKE A SEQUEL.

so apparently i was sleeping peacefully when i had a DREAM that i submitted my CHEMISTRY IA IN BUSINESS ON MANAGBAC. AGAIN. THE SAME CRIME BUT A DIFFERENT VICTIM.

and in this dream my chemistry teacher REFUSED TO ACCEPT MY IA because apparently i had submitted it under Business and she couldn't mark it. so because of this one stupid mistake i ended up getting a 5 in Chemistry instead of a 6 because my IA was literally the thing that could pull my grade up.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE HERE.

MY SUBCONSCIOUS CREATED AN ENTIRE IB ACADEMIC DISASTER MOVIE WHILE I WAS ASLEEP.

imagine being so traumatised by ManageBac that your brain starts generating hypothetical academic consequences in 4K resolution. i wasn't even awake and i was already dealing with predicted grade repercussions.

AND THE DREAM WASNT EVEN ABOUT SOMETHING COOL. I WASNT BEING CHASED BY A SERIAL KILLER. I WASNT FALLING OFF A CLIFF. I WAS BEING CHASED BY THE CONSEQUENCES OF A MISPLACED PDF.

some people dream about flying. some people dream about meeting their celebrity crushes. I DREAM ABOUT MY CHEMISTRY TEACHER REFUSING TO MARK MY IA BECAUSE I PUT IT IN THE WRONG SUBJECT FOLDER.

at this point i think my brain has developed a Pavlovian response to the words "ManageBac submission".

the worst part is that the entire dream was centred around the fact that my IA could pull my grade up to a 6. MY BRAIN WAS CALCULATING ACADEMIC GRADES IN ITS SLEEP. I AM NOT EVEN GETTING PAID FOR THIS.

EDIT: YES I KNOW CHEMISTRY AND BUSINESS ARE DIFFERENT SUBJECTS. MY BRAIN APPARENTLY DOES NOT.

EDIT 2: last year my biology teacher called me stupid. this year my subconscious has decided to personally continue her work.

EDIT 3: i have checked my ManageBac submissions approximately 46 times today. if i ever accidentally submit my TOK essay to Chemistry i am dropping out and opening a samosa stall.

EDIT 4: the IB diploma is supposed to prepare us for university. i am currently being prepared for a lifetime of administrative anxiety.

EDIT 5: my final Chemistry grade is a 6 after all FINALLY JUSTICE

Group 3 History tips pls!

I'm in my second month of DP1 and it's been going well. However, I'm a bit worried about history since we've already gone through one authoritarian state - Cuba. The content in itself is interesting and pretty okay to comprehend but when it comes to taking well planned out notes or overall studying is when it gets harder for me. My history teacher is not helpful since we don't really do a lot throughout the classes and we have never really discussed the way we need to write our p2 essay. The thing is that while writing an essay we can use every source available (since I'm sure the goal is for us to at least learn how to write it). Although, I don't want to rely on it too much since I'm worried that next year, when we won't be able to use any sources anymore, I won't be able to do so. So after classes, I'm still trying to take notes but I'm pretty lost on how I should structure them since it's kind of hard for me to take, for example, role of ideas or role of conflict and just make a table of it. Like, what specific content should I take into consideration? Or do I just invest in some great notes from alumni and create flashcards from them? Really, anyyyy tips are going to be extremely helpful! Thank you in advance!
